'Prosperous Universe' Enters Early Access - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Dec. 17, 2018 @ 12:00 a.m. PST

Prosperous Universe is a space economy simulation where you are the CEO of your own spacefaring company. Explore the galaxy, design spaceships, forge alliances, and most importantly: produce, trade, transport, and profit.

Your business is managed entirely through a highly customizable user interface named APEX, which is accessible via web browser on any desktop computer. Thousands of players share the same, persistent universe, contributing to a single, purely player-driven economy. A true sandbox game, Prosperous Universe allows for unique experiences, a multitude of play styles, and all different levels of time investment with no grind to speak of.

Imagine a universe with hundreds of stars, thousands of planets and space stations, huge empires and – you. A tiny company with barely enough money to survive. What would you do?

In order to turn a profit, you may decide to mine minerals, or to farm crops. Maybe you’d rather design spaceships or deliver goods. Or maybe you want to trade commodities, stocks, currencies, or information. Whichever option you choose, it will leave a mark on the single, massive, persistent world of Prosperous Universe.

Instead of NPCs and scripted events shaping the course of history, all economic and political developments in the game are purely player-driven. At its core lies the concept of a closed economic loop. There have been thousands of browser-based sci-fi strategy games before that emphasize military conflict. Prosperous Universe, by contrast, is all about the economy and complex player-driven supply chains in which every material has to be either produced or purchased from other player-run companies. Through its many intertwined features, Prosperous Universe also allows for meaningful, high-level meta game play like forging huge alliances, building lasting empires and waging trade wars by employing diplomacy, strategy and intrigue.

Realism and fairness are integral to the game’s design, ranging from the economy to its space travel mechanics. Both would be undermined if players were able to gain an advantage over others by investing a bigger amount of real money. That is why the game will never be pay-to-win. Free users can enjoy the game for an unlimited time, and Premium players pay a straight-forward subscription fee. With no grind to speak of, the game also doesn’t punish players with little time to invest.

Prosperous Universe is currently in its First Access phase. To play during First Access, which will run for several months and encompass numerous test runs, the purchase of a supporter pack is required. After First Access ends, the game can be played for free with limited features or for a monthly subscription fee to get the full experience. The goals of First Access are to build a community early, integrate player feedback and help fund the game's development until the full release.

After First Access, the game will become free to play with the option to buy premium game time (a “Pro License”) to unlock all features. Microtransactions and pay-to-win will have no place in Prosperous Universe. The single, massive game world of Prosperous Universe will no longer be reset after the game's full launch.

Key Features

  • Prosperous Universe is a massively multiplayer economy sandbox simulation in a realistic sci-fi setting played through a customizable expert user interface in your web browser.
  • Your company. Your choices. Set your own goals and find your own ways. Mine resources, design spaceships, deliver goods, or trade commodities, stocks, currencies and information in a vivid, player-driven economy. Thanks to a grind-free experience, the success of your company is not limited by the time you invest.
  • Real world. Real consequences. From orbital mechanics to the stock market, reality has guided the design of Prosperous Universe. Understanding and exploiting complex systems is the key to success. Realism will not be sacrificed to pay-to-win shenanigans – your money is no good here.
  • One universe. One economy. All players compete and cooperate in the same, ever-expanding universe. Every resource and commodity can and must be provided by real people. Every price is determined by supply and demand on real-time exchanges 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
