Vertigo Games Set Up New VR Arcade Publisher And Technology Provider

by Rainier on July 25, 2018 @ 8:46 a.m. PDT

Vertigo Games, known for VR game Arizona Sunshine, announced the launch of a new company entitled Vertigo Arcades, a VR arcade publisher and technology provider aimed at driving the success of VR developers, large-scale VR arcades, and entertainment venues.

Vertigo Arcades connects VR developers and VR arcades through its VR Arcade Suite,  a content launcher for free-roaming location-based (LB) VR titles. It also includes an API for integrating a variety of key arcade features like tracking systems, peripherals, spectator and mixed reality functionality, and more in both LB VR and core VR titles, all of which they will be able to adjust and test to create the optimum experience for users.

At time of launch, Vertigo Arcades’ titles account for approximately 20% of all VR arcade minutes played in Western markets. In addition to Vertigo Games’ Arizona Sunshine and VR strategy title Skyworld, titles already signed on include I-Illusions’ award-winning and top-selling Space Pirate Trainer, Island 359 by former The Brookhaven Experiment developers at CloudGate Studio, and the upcoming A Fisherman’s Tale by Innerspace VR / ARTE France.

Adding to the growing portfolio, this August will see the launch of the company’s first LB VR title developed for large-scale, warehouse VR. Based on the award-winning and top-selling VR shooter, Arizona Sunshine - LB VR Edition offers an untethered LB VR experience that transports up to four players straight into the heart of the zombie apocalypse. As the flagship title for the VR Arcade Suite, Arizona Sunshine – LB VR Edition will showcase how the technology can be implemented in large-scale location-based environments outside of the home. This has been likened to bringing the classic ‘80s arcade experience into the new millenia, as these will be some of the only venues allowing VR titles to shine in large, untethered environments through the power of free movement and real-world interaction.

Additionally, in partnership with Nomadic, a custom LB VR title based on Arizona Sunshine is currently in development, which will fully leverage Nomadic’s cutting-edge tactile technology to bring the post-apocalyptic world of Arizona Sunshine to life in a whole new way and grant players complete and physical immersion at Nomadic locations exclusively starting this fall.

“Vertigo Arcades leverages its existing network of developers and physical footprint to grow the out-of-home VR revenue for our partners,” said Managing Director Richard Stitselaar. “From developer tools to in-arcade marketing and promotions, we’re working to make this market more accessible for consumers, VR arcades, and VR game developers alike. It’s our belief that larger, warehouse-scale experiences of VR games like Arizona Sunshine – LB VR Edition are a key part of expanding consumer interest and increasing the business viability of VR development.”

Aside from software, Vertigo Arcades provides technical support and is an official reseller of LB VR and arcade hardware, offering an all-in-one solution for partners to implement and run warehouse-scale VR experiences.

Signed on venues/customers:

  • 300+ VR arcades in 40 countries worldwide
  • Nomadic, which recently partnered with Vertigo Games to bring hit VR titles to Nomadic locations
  • Key Arcade Partners – SpringboardVR, VR Junkies, Private Label VR, Ctrl V, Valve, Synthesis VR, VRX Networks, and VRotein
