'Red: Lucid Nightmare' Chapter 1 Scheduled for Next Month, Closed Beta Available Today - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 19, 2018 @ 1:51 p.m. PDT

Red: Lucid Nightmare is a survival-horror adventure game where players investigate the disappearance of a family during the day and navigate deadly nightmares at night.

RED is a psychological horror game that has elements of survival horror, each night presents new challenges and things to discover. In the nightmare, you will be armed with a lighter, flashlight, and later, a radio.  Watch out for traps, some will impair your ability to move and others will take your life.  Listen carefully and tread lightly. Monsters lurk the twisted corridors tracking your moves.

Mercedes is an investigative journalist recovering from a mysterious accident.  Burdened with debt, she retreats to her isolated family home where she is plagued by increasingly horrific nightmares.  She tries to distance herself from her old life, but a friend attempts to draw Mercedes out of her depression by roping her into his search for a missing girl, Isobel.  Mercedes is hesitant to get involved until she realizes she’s seen the missing girl before: in her nightmares.

Now armed with little more than childhood relics, Mercedes must keep the monsters at bay long enough to find the missing girl and figure out the connection between the girl, the monsters, and Mercedes’ accident.

When the path seems safe enough, look around, absorb the environment, and uncover hidden clues.

Red door rooms play a major role in returning to reality. After escaping from the nightmare realm you’ll take part in a missing person’s case and have time to explore Mercedes’ home.

Red: Lucid Nightmare is launching Closed Beta September 19th with an anticipated release in early to mid-October 2018. Additional depth, immersion, and terror added with Oculus VR Compatibility.

“Most horror games are comfortable retreading the same territory and exploiting the same cheap tricks and loud noises to surprise their players. From the very first pitch, my goal was to design an experience that showed what I loved about horror and what I thought was missing from current games in the genre. Our goal with RED: Lucid Nightmares is to create a game that focuses on atmosphere, exploration, and terror without relying on jump scares or shock value. My most sincere hope is that the experience of our game follows a player from the screen, down the hallway, and then crawls stealthily underneath their bed.” - Naiche Washburn, Lead Designer
