In the year 2030, the first flying cars have been invented and the World Federation Racing Championship is preparing for a new era of racing with hybrid cars. To give teams time to adjust to this fundamental transition, the Federation issues a season’s pause. Four of the world’s leading hybrid electric car manufacturers get together and decide to bridge this gap by organizing “Xenon”, a once in a lifetime championship for rookie drivers to help test the new technology with car prototypes running on a combination of electricity and Xenon gas.
The Federation does not approve of this rogue championship and their missing endorsement means that the usual international race tracks cannot be used. Therefore, the gravity defying racing action takes place in the bustling streets of cities worldwide, such as Shanghai in China and Miami in the USA. There are also races at more serene places; the Cote d’Azur in France and Lake Louise in Canada.
From February 27th, 9am PT until March 6th, 9am PT, the futuristic arcade racer Xenon Racer is playable in Open Beta on Steam®. It will be the first time ever Xenon Racer is playable with steering wheel support.
By joining the Open Beta, players worldwide can already drift through the turns in Xenon-powered cars before the launch on March 26th, and give their feedback.
In the Xenon Racer Beta version, players can literally get behind the wheel as well. Xenon Racer offers steering wheel support for the Logitech G25, G29 and G920, the Thrustmaster TX Racing, T300 RS, T150 RS, T80, TMX Force, T-GT, Ferrari 458 and TS-XW, and the Fanatec ClubSport and CSL Elite. Additionally, it’s been confirmed that Xenon Racer includes Widescreen Monitor Support and the option to unlock the frame rate.
The Beta version includes both Fast Race and Online Multiplayer modes. There are two different racing tracks to try, “Tokyo Garden” and “Lake Louise Forest”, both of which can also be raced in reversed direction. Moreover, two different car models are included in the Beta version, both available in Normal and Performance variants. Finally, there will be a new car skin, which is designed especially for the Open Beta players.
Ten players joining the Beta have a chance to win the game for free on launch by participating in one of the two contests, the Leaderboards and Photo Mode contest. There are prizes for the best leaderboard time on each of the four tracks, and six prizes for the best pictures taken in photo mode either during the race or in the garage.
In an era of flying vehicles, a last one-off championship for traditional wheeled vehicles has been organised, with cutting edge electric cars boosted by Xenon gas. Rushing through treacherous turns as bright neon lights flash by, players drift through the futuristic streets of cities like Tokyo and Dubai. Resisting massive G-forces, they’ll have to demand the utmost of technology to race at breakneck speeds in the pursuit of eternal victory.
In Xenon Racer, players can race against the AI in Fast Race and Elimination Mode, and unlock new cars, parts and maps in the singleplayer Championship. To practice their racing skills and to break personal records, players can hit the tracks by themselves in Time Attack, Checkpoint Attack and Free Mode. There’s also a local split screen mode and an online multiplayer to challenge others to a race.
