'We Happy Few' (ALL) v1.7 Update Adds Arcade Mode

by Rainier on March 26, 2019 @ 12:00 a.m. PDT

Set in a drug-fueled, retro-futuristic city in an alternative 1960s England, you’ll have to blend in with its other inhabitants, who don’t take kindly to people who don’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

We Happy Few is the tale of a plucky bunch of moderately terrible people trying to escape from a lifetime of cheerful denial in the city of Wellington Wells.

In this alternative 1960s England, conformity is key. You’ll have to fight or blend in with the drug-addled inhabitants, most of whom don’t take kindly to people who won’t abide by their not-so-normal rules.

Discover the retrofuturistic city’s dark history as you play through the intertwined narratives of three quietly rebellious citizens of Wellington Wells, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, as they face their pasts, prepare for the future, and engage in activities that aren’t exactly status quo in the artificially enthused society.

We Happy Few v1.7, including the new Arcade Mode, is available on all platforms today.

During the game's Kickstarter campaign in 2015, the development team promised to build additional modes for We Happy Few - and today are excited to finally present: Arcade Mode!

Arcade Mode is a free game update for We Happy Few which contains three new modes that will showcase a different part of the We Happy Few experience: Survival, Night’s Watch and Sandbox.

  • Survival: Survival is a return to the Early Access survival experience, designed for those of you who enjoyed the survival experience in the past. You will need to hunt for food, water and shelter, and you’ll need to use all of the stealth, crafting, and combat skills at your disposal to last as long as you can in Wellington Wells.
  • Night’s Watch: Night's Watch brings to life one of the most requested characters by the community, allowing you to play as the most notorious Bobby, Constable Constable. As a constable, and a man of high duty, you’ll need to keep all the filthy Downers out of town through fast paced combat while making sure you do not run out of Joy.
  • Sandbox: Sandbox is a non-narrative/non-goal based game mode, which allows you to experiment with world generation systems and gameplay options. This isn’t a skill based mode rather than a calmer experience, designed for players who want the freedom to create their own version Wellington Wells.

Key Features

  • A procedurally generated world: Each time you die or beat the game, your next adventure through Wellington Wells will be different. Forget about relying on the city's layout to escape!
  • A sophisticated suspicion system: The inhabitants of Wellington Wells expect you to behave in very specific ways—if they suspect you're not taking your Joy, they'll quickly identify you as a Downer.
  • Frenzied combat: Downers aren't very popular in Wellington Wells. In fact, Wellies tend to get a bit violent whenever one walks by.
  • Twisted survival mechanics: In this urban setting, avoiding the Wellies' fury often means hiding in plain sight.
  • An elaborate crafting system: Salvage supplies and Joy-tainted food to stay alive, but be careful not to overdose!

We Happy Few is available on Xbox One, PC, and PS4.
