Close to the Sun casts players back to the height of Nikola Tesla’s career in the late 1890s, charging them with boarding a mysterious ship complex created by the man himself to bring the greatest minds of the world together in an alternative version of history.
Though his various scientific breakthroughs have, even at this early stage, had a major impact on the rest of the world, it quickly becomes apparent that something, somewhere on this ship has gone disastrously wrong, and history is not playing out as it should.
Players take on the role of Rose, a young journalist searching for her sister in this first-person horror adventure, with Close to the Sun’s water-laden world offering no way of escape and no easy answers to the riddles aplenty therein.
Close to the Sun’s visuals are heavily inspired by Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Steampunk, with players charged with both exploring and surviving Tesla’s dystopia domain in first-person as they venture towards a promised salvation. What lies in wait for those who manage to dance away from death within a world seemingly intent on bringing about their demise?
Close to the Sun will release exclusively on the Epic Games store for PC on 2nd May 2019.
Available now for pre-purchase worldwide, adventurers can discover Close to the Sun at EpicGames.com, for $29.99 in North America and €29.99 in most European countries. All pre-purchasers will receive an exclusive, limited edition digital artbook at release.
The game will release for PS4 and Xbox One later in 2019.
“May 2 can’t come quick enough for us,” said Leo Zullo, Managing Director, Wired Productions. “Our partnership with the amazing team at Epic Games has not only accelerated the development process of Close to the Sun in terms of accessing the sheer pixel-pushing grunt of Unreal Engine 4, but allowed the incredibly talented Storm in a Teacup team to showcase their collective talents to deliver a truly memorable and breath-taking first-person horror adventure.”
Storm in a Teacup are also pleased to unveil the voice cast for the French, Italian, German and Spanish versions of the game.
When creating Close to the Sun, from an early stage in development, we knew we wanted to tell a story that was accessible to everyone. We’re an Italian studio, but we are working with international partners on a game that at its core is a wonderful narrative adventure we want everyone to experience. With our publisher Wired Productions, we set out to find a fantastic roster of voice talent that could bring Rose and the other in game characters to life.
We’re delighted today to unveil the international cast, and with the release date trailer give you just a flavour of what you’ll hear in game on May 2nd!
