'Borderlands 3' (ALL) Twitch ECHOcast Extension Adds New Functionality - Trailer

by Rainier on April 29, 2019 @ 10:06 a.m. PDT

Borderlands 3 is a story-driven, non-stop galactic thrill-ride, filled with colorful characters, epic enemies and boss fights, and literally billions of guns.

Blast through new worlds and enemies as one of four brand new Vault Hunters – the ultimate treasure-seeking badasses of the Borderlands, each with deep skill trees, abilities, and customization.

Play solo or join with friends to take on insane enemies, collect bazillions of guns and loads of loot, and save your home from the most ruthless cult leaders in the galaxy – the Calypso Twins.

The franchise, which combines the exhilarating action of a first-person shooter with the rich progression and loot systems of a role-playing game, has sold-in more than 41 million units worldwide to date. The most popular title in the series – Borderlands 2 – still draws in more than one million unique monthly users more than six years after the game’s initial release in 2012.

Gearbox Software and publisher 2K announced the Borderlands 3 ECHOcast Extension, the official Twitch extension for Borderlands 3.

This extension will not only allow Twitch viewers to interact with livestreams of Borderlands 3 in exciting new ways, it will also give viewers opportunities to score their own in-game items by participating in events with other viewers right there in the stream.

The Borderlands 3 ECHOcast Extension empowers viewers to look through their favorite streamers’ loadouts, explore the contents of their backpacks, and even poke around their skill trees. There are also special loot chests throughout the game that kickoff opt-in events every time a streamer finds and opens one.

If viewers opt in to one of these “Rare Chest Events,” they could potentially score a copy of one item from the Rare Chest the streamer opens. This could be a gun, a shield, a grenade mod—whatever the case, one lucky viewer receives a SHiFT code that can be redeemed for the specific item they select from among the items in the chest (though their copy of the item will be scaled to match their in-game level).

The extension will be available starting May 1, just in time for the Borderlands 3 Worldwide Gameplay Reveal Event, during which content creators from across the globe will be playing and livestreaming the game for the first time starting at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. Fans who link their SHiFT and Twitch accounts and tune in to watch their favorite streamers will be able get a head start on assembling their in-game arsenals ahead of Borderlands 3’s September 13 release.

For detailed instructions that explain how to install and utilize the extension, plus a straightforward demonstration narrated by our very own Claptrap, please click here.

Following a 30-minute pre-show, the very first live Borderlands 3 gameplay will be streamed at the official website and on the Borderlands Twitch channel starting at 10am PDT / 1pm EDT / 6pm BST on May 1.

Not only will the event feature Borderlands 3 gameplay, it will also include commentary from the Gearbox development team on everything from the new Vault Hunters and their respective skills to interplanetary travel and sweet, sweet loot. Tune in on May 1 to catch all the news.

Developed from the ground up with AMD, Borderlands 3 will take full advantage of the most powerful PC hardware available, and is optimized for top performance and incredible gaming experiences on AMD Radeon graphics cards and Ryzen™ CPUs.

Borderlands 3 will launch worldwide on PS4, Xbox One and PC on the Epic Games store September 13, 2019 (additional PC digital storefronts in April 2020).
