'Frostpunk' (ALL) Gets PS4 and Xbox One Release Date - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 13, 2019 @ 8:29 a.m. PDT

A steampunk-themed strategy game on a frozen world, Frostpunk asks what choices you would be willing to make and how far could you bend morality to stay alive.

Frostpunk is a city-survival game in which heat means life, and every decision comes with a cost. Living among the frozen remnants of Earth, it is up to you to shape society, establishing the laws and customs to ensure survival.

The premise begins by imagining what society is capable of when pushed to the limit. In a completely frozen world, people develop steam-powered technology to oppose the overwhelming cold. Society in its current form becomes ineffective and it has to change in order to survive. What does this change mean? What is culture when morality stands in the way of existence? In the end, survival may transform us completely. Whether that change makes us better or worse, stronger or weaker, or even more or less humane is debatable.

With the future of humankind in your hands, Frostpunk is both a challenge of tactical planning and a test of your own humanity.

Frostpunk: Console Edition is a finely tuned adaptation of the PC hit that will be making its way to Xbox One and PS4.

“From day one we knew we wanted to bring Frostpunk to consoles. At the same time, we didn't want it to be just a port. We wanted Frostpunk to feel like a native console experience, so we redesigned pretty much every game element to work intuitively with a gamepad. Among the new, console-specific UI changes we have an express menu for quick access to most common building actions, easy to use choice-wheels, top-down view for precise building placement, upscaled icons, and much more. We truly believe it will become a new benchmark for the genre on Xbox One and PlayStation 4,” says Frostpunk Senior Lead Designer, Jakub Stokalski.

Focusing on a smooth transition to consoles, great efforts are being taken to re-design the game and adjust its mechanics for the Xbox One and PS4, especially when it comes to controls. 11 bit studios still have some work to do but are close to the finish line, creating an intuitive interface allowing gameplay to feel natural even when playing with a controller.

Frostpunk: Console Edition will contain all the previous free updates from the PC version including The Fall of Winterhome scenario, additional customization options, difficulty settings, and balance tweaks. Furthermore, additional content updates are planned for the future.

Key Features:

  • MAINTAIN HOPE - Survival is about hope and the will to live. Your ability to spark and maintain these two in your citizens will be a determinant factor for success.
  • MAKE AND ENACT LAW - The only method of continued survival is to ensure survivors abide by the same rules and share similar beliefs. Establishing laws and customs will be a crucial factor shaping your society.
  • WEIGH YOUR CHOICES - Will you allow child-labour? How will you treat the sick and wounded? Choices in Frostpunk are never straightforward, and decisions come at a price.
  • EXPLORE - The world covers not only bits of the past but also the potential means to secure the future of your people.

Frostpunk is currently available as digital download through Steam, GOG.com, and Humble Store for $29.99 USD, and will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One on October 11, 2019 for at USD/EUR 29.99.

The physical console version from Merge Games will debut on October 18th in Europe and October 22nd in the US for Xbox One and PS4 priced at 34.99 USD/34.99 EUR/29.99 GBP.
