'Fishing: Barents Sea' Comes to Nintendo Switch, PS4 and Xbox One - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 13, 2019 @ 5:01 p.m. PDT

Fishing: Barents Sea is an open world simulator that takes the player to the Barents Sea; a visually stunning region of the Arctic Ocean, famous for its abundance of fish.

In the Fishing: Barents Sea – Complete Edition you will start your career on board of your grandfather’s small but reliable line fishing ship, the Børge. Locate the best fishing grounds in this huge, open game world along the coastline of northern Norway with the help of your ship’s radar, and later in the game, using the originally licensed Scanmar catch system. Make sure to keep an eye on the selling prices of different fish species on the local market and master the many different fishing methods available in the game.

With a little bit of skill and good fortune you will soon be able to exchange the little Børge for larger and larger ships with better equipment until you will be able to afford the gigantic, originally licensed Hermes Trawler. As an alternative, you can put your focus on catching the majestic king crabs and invest your accumulated funds in buying the mighty vessel Svalbard with its huge crab pots and powerful crane to haul in your valuable catch.

After a profitable day at sea, the player can head to one of the numerous ports in Fishing: Barents Sea, which offer him many different choices. Among them, you can accept new missions, hire assistants, and restock his supplies. You may also need to repair and refuel his ship or upgrade it with better equipment to go faster and further. Should you be in need of some quick cash, a bank will always be available for a loan.

No matter which path you choose to follow, with its intuitive controls perfectly adjusted to your needs, the Fishing: Barents Sea – Complete Edition will always offer you an atmospheric and immersive simulation experience.

astragon Entertainment and Norwegian developer Misc Games announced that Fishing: Barents Sea will be released on consoles later this year.

This Fishing: Barents Sea – Complete Edition will offer players the unique chance to captain their very own fishing vessel on Xbox One, PS4 and a little later this year, also on Nintendo Switch. Already included from the start next to the main game will be the Line and Net Ships DLC. The King Crab DLC will follow later in form of a free update.

King Crab DLC

With two brand-new ships virtual fishermen can add even more variety to their everyday lives on the high seas.

The Selfy which is based on the ship models of Norwegian ship manufacturer Selfa Arctic AS is the first of the two new ships from the King Crab DLC. The reliable vessel is a true all-rounder in providing a smooth transition from regular fishing to the slightly different mechanics of catching king crabs. She can be equipped either with line and nets or crab pots and a sorting table. Her storage provides more than enough capacities for cod, shellfish, pollack and redfish. With over 500 hp and a maximum speed of 30 knots fishing lovers can still catch the whole range of fish from the Barents Sea before they fully head to the catching of the majestic crustaceans with the next ship of the King Crab DLC.

After learning the basics of crab fishing such as detecting the locations of crab areas and lowering crab pots into the sea, the second ship of the King Crab DLC is the very right choice for virtual fishers. With almost 55 meters the Svalbard is five times longer than the Selfy, equipped with significantly larger crab pots and exclusively designed for king crab fishing. Appropriately, a large and powerful crane for throwing out and hauling in the heavy crab pots is located on deck of the Svalbard. This beast with an 1125 horsepower engine is the perfect companion for making the dream of becoming a successful king crab fisher in Northern Norway come true.

Just like any other species of prey in the game, the majestic king crabs can be located by sonar. After successfully identifying an area with high chances of a rich crab population, the fisher will lower baited pots to the seabed. After enough time has passed, he will pull in the pots once more and discover a new mini game: Unlike other species such as cod or shellfish, there is an official law, which states that king crabs have to be sorted by gender. Female crabs will be thrown back into the ocean to provide many new descendants while the male crabs can be sold for significant earnings upon arrival at the harbor.

By learning this fishing method a responsible fisherman will not only secure the survival of the king crab population in the waters of the Barents Sea but also get the chance to become – step by step – the largest fishing operator with the richest assortment of fish and seafood in Northern Norway.

Developed using the Unreal Engine 4, Fishing: Barents Sea license partners are Scanmar AS, pioneers in the field of electronic catch control systems for professional use in the fishing industry, as well as the Norwegian fishing company Hermes AS.

Currently available for PC, Fishing: Barents Sea will be coming as digital download to PS4 and Xbox One, with a Nintendo Switch version to follow shortly after.
