The survival-based town builder is set in a waterlogged world and features moving towns, procedural world generation, and an eclectic group of survivors. Players will manage a floating village community as it sails across an endless ocean. In their fight to survive, they’ll depend on recycled garbage and scrap, used to construct structures that catch fish and create drinkable water. On their journey, they’ll encounter other stranded strangers, dangerous sea animals, and mysterious ruins and wreckages.
As players steer their town and explore the sprawling, dynamic environment, they‘ll uncover tall ruins, underwater cities, and reefs full of sea life and garbage. They’ll have to choose which obstacles to avoid and which to scavenge as they drift through the harsh ocean world. Players will rescue and care for drifters, who transform garbage, driftwood, and flotsam into boats and buildings, allowing them to collect rainwater, hunt for various creatures, and reel up scrap from the expansive sea floor.
Flotsam is available on Steam Early Access and Kartridge at the price of $24.99 / €22.99 / £19.99.
Following a successful presence at gamescom 2019 - where Flotsam was awarded the Indie Arena Booth “Best Unity Game” - and a long phase of Alpha testing, the studio is now proud to finally share their game with the general public, as it sets sail for Early Access. Flotsam swam its way into development originally four years ago, when the studio was founded in 2015.
“We’ve set out on this journey as a small boat trying to make big waves. When you all paddle along together, the waves are even more exciting. We hope to see you in Early Access,” says cofounder and project manager Juda-ben Gordier. “From the very beginning we felt that publicly sharing our game would be a great bonus. Early Access enables us to involve you in the development and create an ever richer experience. Town-builders and flooded worlds are particularly suited for this process. Become a drifter and help us salvage this polluted scrap and garbage into a beautiful town!”
The game is set to stay in Early Access for a year, with the full release planned for sometime in 2020. Pajama Llama plans to build Flotsam as a completely replayable experience, with an ever-changing world, new biomes to travel to and more varied landmarks. Always keeping player feedback in mind, the plan is to enrich this world with more ways of interacting with the different landmarks and their inhabitants, with multiple options of salvaging, scouting and traveling the world and ways of using resources.
