'Shadow Arena' Will Be Getting MOBA Mode, Console Crossplay And More

by Rainier on Oct. 12, 2020 @ 1:44 p.m. PDT

A fantasy arena fighter game, Shadow Arena features two modes, individual and team, where players will experience a unique action-packed combat system.

Survive the Arena Shrouded in Darkness: Every fighter must fend for themselves as the darkness creeps in ever closer... Countless will fall and only one will ultimately rise victorious on the fields of the Shadow Arena.

Master the visceral, real-time action to both land attacks on enemies and evade their blows to become the last spirit standing.

Shadow Arena pits 40 players against each other in a ruthless fight to be the last person standing on the battlefield. Players can choose from nine playable characters in the beta, each with their own unique fighting style. To climb to the top of the pack, players must slay monsters and collect loot to upgrade their gear and gain buffs. However, impeccable skill execution and well-timed evasive tactics are critical in securing victory.

Recently, the developers behind Shadow Arena sat down to answer some of the community's burning questions and to reveal much of the game’s roadmap of upcoming content.

See the list below for all of the key takeaways talked about by the development team:

  • Console release and crossplay - The development team announced that Shadow Arena is indeed coming to console and will support crossplay!
  • MOBA mode in Shadow Arena - Players will soon be able to play Shadow Arena in a completely different way, as a MOBA! This new mode is currently under development with more updates to come.
  • Extensive UI overhaul - Damage numbers will be added to the game! This is one of the most requested features by the community and is just the start of new changes coming to the UI.
  • Select new skills before the battle starts - The team wants to ensure that players have the most robust choices available before entering battle and are working on this as a potential new feature for the future.
  • Enhanced clan system - The clan system is being improved and will be fully supported by all of the recently introduced modes.
  • Even more new heroes - New heroes will continue to be added to Shadow Arena every three weeks with a total roster of twenty joining the fray by the end of the year.
  • Improved tournament system - The tournament system continues to be refined and polished with in depth testing on Asian servers.
  • All new Trio competitive mode - This new mode will introduce unique rules with new mechanics to shake things up in battle and is scheduled to arrive later this month.
  • Premium items coming soon - Players will be able to get a hold of a swath of new premium items including emotes and all new weapon skins.

Shadow Arena was originally a game within Black Desert, but eventually evolved into its own stand-alone game. While Shadow Arena does draw from Black Desert, it has created its own unique style, drawing from the MOBA, battle royale, and MMO genres to create an arena fighter. Shadow Arena has two gameplay modes: solo and team. While players can boast their skill in the solo match, complex strategic gameplay is required in the team mode. Players can also enjoy a distinctive co-op mode with a new style of PvP action.

Currently available through Steam Early Access, Shadow Arena will be coming to PC first and console later.
