Cyberpunk 2077 will be designed for mature and demanding players who expect to be treated seriously, and the game will be richly detailed, non-linear, and with a complex and gripping story.
The creators promise that “Cyberpunk 2077” will be true to the essence of the cyberpunk genre. Players will be thrown into the dark future of the year 2077 and into a world where advanced technologies have become both the salvation and the curse of humanity. A multi-thread, nonlinear story designed for mature players will take place in the sprawling metropolis of Night City and its surroundings. Players will have a chance to freely roam the open-world environment and visit places well known from the pen-and-paper RPG “Cyberpunk 2020”, including a combat zone completely taken over by gangs, the legendary Afterlife joint and the nostalgic Forlorn Hope.
In Cyberpunk 2077, the player will be thrown into a dark future. The metropolis of Night City is a stage set to tell the tale of one individual, raised on the streets, who tries to lift himself up from the gutter and find a way to survive amongst booster gangs and mega corporations in a city of filth and sin. Drugs, violence, poverty and exclusion haven’t disappeared by 2077, as people stayed as they were for centuries – greedy, closed-minded and weak. But not only ghosts of the past trouble mankind, but new issues have appeared. Psychos go on rampages and the streets are filled with junkies addicted to a new form of entertainment – the braindance, a cheap way to experience the emotions and stimuli of someone else, someone living a more exciting life.
The Cyberpunk 2077 Porsche 911 Turbo, based on the model range first launched back in 1974, will be included in the game as a unique, fully-drivable vehicle. Its presence is tied to one of the game’s main characters — rebel rockerboy Johnny Silverhand, played and portrayed by Keanu Reeves.
The automotive icon retains its classic 1977 look, painstakingly recreated and adapted by CD PROJEKT RED concept and vehicle artists using sketches, photographs, and photogrammetry. The model has been adapted to the reality of 2077 through the addition of, among others, a lidar attached to the front, a set of sensors and elements to identify the vehicle from the air, and electronic mirrors with monitors inside the vehicle.
“Johnny’s a legend of the Cyberpunk universe. When thinking about what kind of car he’d be driving through the streets of Night City, we knew it would have to be one just as legendary as he is. Having Johnny’s story in mind, and being huge fans of Porsche ourselves, the answer could only be the classic 911 Turbo,” said Paweł Mielniczuk, Art Director of Characters, Weapons and Vehicles, CD PROJEKT RED.
In addition to the 911 Turbo appearing in the game, a real-life and fully operational rendition of its Johnny Silverhand variant has been constructed. The car will be available on display outside the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart from October 15th to October 22nd. It is also featured in a commercial shot on location, telling the story of a car that retains a mysterious connection to its previous owner.
The most recent installment of the Cyberpunk 2077-focused online event started out with Rides of the Dark Future — an in-depth look at the variety of cars, bikes, and other means of transportation in Night City and beyond, including a sneak-peek at a very special ride belonging to the Cyberpunk legend.
Two behind-the-scenes videos followed. Revving Up Night City shows the development team recording audio for the vehicles of the game to help bring them fully to life. In Arch Motorcycle with Keanu Reeves and Gard Hollinger, both co-founders of the motorcycle company talk details about their collaboration with CD PROJEKT RED on Cyberpunk 2077.
2077 in Style, on the other hand, is all about the look, feel, and fashion of 2077’s most dangerous megalopolis, as well as that of its inhabitants — those famous, infamous, and everyone in-between.
The latest episode of Night City Wire also featured the reveal of an all new CGI teaser — The Diner — showing gamers what it takes to get to the top in the world of the dark future.
