'Humankind' Targets April 2021 Launch, Also On Stadia, Pre-Order Now - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Oct. 21, 2020 @ 9:00 a.m. PDT

Humankind is a historical turn-based strategy where you'll be leading your people from the Neolithic era to the modern age, combining cultures as you progress through the eras to create your own unique civilization.

What if you could rewrite the entire narrative of human history? How would you change the course of Humankind? These are the questions at the center of Humankind.

In Humankind, you'll be combining different cultures as you progress through the eras to create a civilization that's as unique as you are. Your goal is to accumulate as much fame – or infamy -- as possible. The journey matters more than the destination, and no great deed will go unnoticed.

Humankind is now available for pre-order and pre-purchase!

We’re very proud of the game and are hoping to bring it to as many people as possible. Which is why we’re launching on multiple storefronts at once. Take your pick of Steam, Stadia, Epic Games or local retail stores to grab your Digital Deluxe Edition or Day One Physical Edition and everything that comes with it.

Starting now, you can get the Digital Deluxe edition for 15% off. Here’s what’s included as a pre-purchase bonus, plus a quick round-up of the Digital Deluxe edition content:

Pre-Order The Physical Edition From Select Retailers

From today at selected retailers, you’ll be able to pre-order the physical edition of Humankind which will contain all of the same content as the Digital Deluxe Edition above, except that the tech tree will be a physical poster and you’ll receive a limited edition two sided decision coin too.

The physical condition will come in either a limited-edition Steel Case (pictured) or a 100% fully recyclable eco-pack, depending on the retailer.

Play Now On Stadia (For Free)

In addition to this lovely pre-purchase offer, a new OpenDev Beta scenario is available to play on Stadia for the next 7 days! OpenDev is our method allowing players to access targeted gameplay scenarios before the game’s release. Player’s participate in the game’s development, and devs get invaluable feedback.

All you need is a Google account and you’ll be able to play a gameplay scenario of about 100 turns – for free! You’ll traverse the Ancient Era as the Nubians, and then, for the very first time, play through the Classical Era as whichever of the 10 available cultures you’d like to choose.

Unity’s Creator Spotlight series continues with Amplitude, the studio behind the upcoming historical turn-based strategy game Humankind.

Behind the Game: Humankind

Tim Raulin and Romain de Waubert from Amplitude Studios chat with host Mike Geig about Humankind, how their community helped shape the game and what it takes to build a game where the course of civilization is in your hands.

Tech Talk: How to Achieve High Frame Rates and Low Build Times

Creating Humankind posed unique challenges; how can a development team keep things running fast while managing the assets required to build an entire empire? In this talk, Tim Raulin explains how Unity’s extensibility allowed Amplitude to manage more than 100,000 individual game assets while keeping build times down and frame rates high.

Creator Spotlights will continue to be released through late November, so check out the full lineup along with the rest of the schedule on Unite Now here! To get the latest updates and highlights from Unite Now, please fill out this form to join the Unite Now mailing list

Here's what you can expect the day you launch your first game of Humankind:

  • One million civilizations– Create your own unique civilization by combining 60 different historical cultures from across the heritage of humanity. Begin as Ancient Egypt, then evolve into the Romans, the Khmers, or perhaps the Vikings—the choice is up to you. Each culture brings its own special gameplay layer, leading to near-endless outcomes.
  • More than history, it's your story - Face real historical events and figures, make great scientific discoveries, and visit the wonders of the world. Shape your people's beliefs and confront other players. Every decision you make adds a flourish to your story.
  • In the eyes of posterity– The journey matters more than destination. Fame is a new and unifying victory condition. Every great deed you accomplish, every moral choice you make, every battle won will build your fame and leave a lasting impact on the world. The player with the most fame will win the game.
  • A tactical world – Show off your tactical skills by mastering terrain elevation, city-building, full tactical battles and warfare. Choose the high ground for your city, and it will be harder to siege. Deploy your archers in the woods to avoid stampeding horsemen. Call upon your allies to help you in times of need and transform an epic battle into a full-scale multiplayer world war!

Humankind will release for PC/Mac and Google Stadia in April 2021.
