'Patagon: The Forbidden Island' (ALL) Announced, Launches Kickstarter Campaign - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on Oct. 7, 2020 @ 4:31 p.m. PDT

Patagon: The Forbidden Island is a steampunk RPG where you hunt dinosaurs, take on quests, or explore the mysteries of a 7-square mile open world island.

Patagon: The Forbidden Island is inspired by our favorite movies and video games, like Indiana Jones, Jurassic Park, Fallout, BioShock and Skyrim.

The game takes place in an alternate steampunk reality where the British empire has never ended. Zeppelins have replaced ships, and the The Company's reach stretches across the globe. You will have access to The Company's Zeppelin to travel around the island.

You are a retired army lieutenant turned big game hunter, who has been hired to restore order to one of The Company's most profitable spice plantations, Patagon Island.

The gameplay involves stealth, action, puzzles, and trying to outwit an extremely dangerous environment. But don't worry, you'll have steampunk weapons by your side like the Steam Rifle, and the Tesla Gun, as well as bombs, explosives and traps. You'll have an engaging story where you get to make choices that affect the outcome of Patagon Island.

Something Awesome Games has launched a kickstarter campaign for Patagon: The Forbidden Island, looking to raise $30,000.

"It's a hidden gem in the South Pacific with amazing forests, lovely beaches and hungry dinosaurs. We aim to create the most immersive VR experience to date, with a rich story to draw you in as well as amazing gameplay. We humbly ask to support our project so we can bring Patagon to life",
said Joren Winge, creator of Patagon: The Forbidden Island project.

Patagon should feel like a real place and be as immersive and nuanced as possible. For that the devs have added true 2 hour day night cycles with stars, the sun, and the moon. Enemies will behave differently at night and certain characters will only be available during different times of the day. The game will use detailed scans for the foliage and create realistic environments.

The game's zeppelins and airships will allow you to explore the clouds above Patagon, while the submarine will let you explore the waters surrounding Patagon Island. Beware, all environments have their own unique dangers and perils.

Throughout the game, experience points will be gathered that can be used for a player to upgrade their skills and equipment. You'll progress down your own path as you advance through the story by making strategic and moral choices.

You will also be able to create your character through our own character customization system. You will be able to create a unique look and feel for your character based on the steampunk styling you like most. Plus you can add a character path based on the element you want to specialize in: air, water, fire, earth.

The creatures in the game have their own patterns and motivations. They will not be tied to a certain area, loop, or path. Additionally, the developers are working on an ai system, "to hunt the hunter" that should allow enemies to stalk you for longer periods of time before attacking, and randomness will be added to their behaviour so it will be hard to predict when they will pop up, and what action they will take.

Patagon: The Forbidden Island is in development PC (VR and desktop) and will support Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Quest 1, Oculus Quest 2, Valve Index, PSVR, All Vive Headsets, HP Reverb G2 headset, and any other HMD that supports Steam VR.
