Players get to play as a team of scavengers, forced to explore and extract valuable artefacts from a vast underground complex that has been overrun by horrifying monsters. Gather weapons, tools and resources to help you survive - and work to unearth the answers about your past and how to escape.
In GTFO, you and your friends will explore hostile and terrifying environments where, in an instant, you are thrown from edge-of-your-seat suspense to frantic action. It’s a large-scale experience, testing players in their ability to gear up and adapt to an endless string of unknown and ever-changing challenges.
10 Chambers Collective consists in part of founding members of Overkill Software and the game designer behind the PAYDAY franchise. With GTFO, they aim to explore and develop the 4-player co-op formula even further.
GTFO is a game with a thick atmosphere intercut by intense action - and the experienced development team shows its strengths in all aspects of the presentation.
On March 31st GTFO is getting a massive update as a part of their Rundown concept, where the game is regularly updated with new expeditions (i.e. maps, scenarios, enemies, etc.) that replace the previous ones. The new update includes a new environment laid out over 10 new maps, new weapons, enemies and objectives - and today they are teasing it by releasing a developer playthrough of one of the new levels.
10 Chambers Collective are showing a recorded gameplay session the developers had, revealing the first expedition of their next big update (Rundown #002), which will be named “Infection” - hinting at its theme.
In the video, you can see the group of four pursuing the objective to locate a “TERMINAL_546” and from that, establish an external uplink. It’s up to the team to find out how to get to this terminal; GTFO doesn’t give many clues such as waypoints or directions. Finding your way involves looking for signs on walls and doors, and accessing data hidden in computer terminals scattered across the facility.
“GTFO doesn’t hold any hands and places demand on cooperation from the start; communicate with your team to find out if they see any signs on the walls or doors, to make progress. On this particular expedition we’re playing in the video, the players need to work together to establish an external uplink from a terminal: One team member will need to type in commands that are only visible on the screens of the three other players - who will need to shout them, while also combating an onslaught of monsters. As you can see in the video, it gets intense”, says Ulf Andersson, founder of 10 Chambers.
Visible in the video are also two new weapons: A machine pistol and a burst rifle. When the update is released - and is made available free for everyone that owns GTFO - on March 31st, it will also include a total of 10 new expeditions of which some need unlocking, as well as new enemies and objectives.
“The update will include 10 new maps in total but we’re trying out an exciting new feature as well, that we call Warden Restriction. When we release the update, it will have a number of the expeditions locked. When a certain number of people have completed the tiers that lead up to those expeditions, the locked ones will become accessible”, says Simon Viklund, co-founder of 10 Chambers. “We hope this will encourage even more help and engagement between our community members, which we have seen a lot of already - and we feel very grateful to have such a nice and friendly community!”
GTFO is now available through Steam Early Access for $34.99.
