'Streets of Rage 4' (ALL) Composer, Original Soundtrack Revealed - Trailer

by Rainier on March 20, 2020 @ 10:15 a.m. PDT

Streets of Rage 4 is an all-new continuation of SEGA's iconic arcade brawler series known for its radical fights, jammin’ ‘90s beats and dashing sparring gloves and bandanas.

Featuring hand-drawn visuals from the team behind 2017’s gorgeous Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap remake, Streets of Rage 4 builds upon the classic trilogy’s gameplay with new mechanics, a fresh story and a gauntlet of dangerous stages with a serious crime problem.

Streets of Rage 4 recalls classic gameplay but it stands as an entirely original arcade-style romp thanks to the expertise of Guard Crush Games and Dotemu.

Whether players gang up with a friend or clean up the city solo, Streets of Rage 4 is a skull-bashing, chicken-chomping delight all set to a thumping soundtrack sure to get your blood pumping.

Streets of Rage 4 is the first installment to the mainline series in more than two decades and will revitalize the iconic baddie-bashing gameplay with modern touches, fresh pulsing jams, and more surprises to be revealed. The team behind Streets of Rage 4 is drawing from a lifetime of love for brawlers to introduce new fans and remind veterans alike why Streets of Rage is one of SEGA’s most beloved series.

Dotemu with co-developers Lizardcube and Guard Crush Games announced Olivier Derivière, the talent behind soundtracks for A Plague Tale: Innocence, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, Dying Light 2 and more, is serving as Streets of Rage 4’s main composer with support from an impressive roster of international guest musicians.

Further detailed in a video deep dive focused on the game’s musical direction, Streets of Rage 4 will also include new contributions from Scattle (Hotline Miami 1 & 2), Das Mörtal (Hotline Miami 2), XL Middleton, and Groundislava.

Derivière’s musical vision echoes the philosophy at the heart of Streets of Rage 4: infusing the timeless, classic elements of the original Streets of Rage games with a modern approach to gameplay, art and design, channeling the nostalgic glory of the genre-defining beat-em-ups through the music of series composers Yūzō Koshiro and Motohiro Kawashima, along with featured Japanese composers, while instilling a unique spirit throughout Streets of Rage 4 via Western artists and Derivière’s sonic creations.

This collaboration will see each guest composer contributing distinctive, pulse-spiking boss fight themes. Furthering the creative commitment for an authentic Streets of Rage experience, Koshiro and Kawashima carry special and expanded presences throughout Streets of Rage 4 and have each provided several tracks; Koshiro’s contributions include both the game’s main theme as well as the song backing the first stage in addition to other songs. The duo’s iconic legacies are integral parts of Derivière’s goals for the soundtrack.

Due to scheduling complications, Hideki Naganuma is regrettably no longer able to contribute to Streets of Rage 4 for now. Harumi Fujita, an iconic veteran musician behind a trove of classic Capcom melodies including Final Fight, Capcom’s answer to the Streets of Rage series, has been kind enough to share her talent instead. Fujita’s signature melodic approach to music composition and her extensive experience with games contributing all-time greats to the NES’ melodic library like Bionic Commando and Mega Man 3 help to round out the Streets of Rage 4 musical lineup in a truly unique way.

Streets of Rage 4 will feature music from:

  • Olivier Derivière (Dying Light 2, A Plague Tale: Innocence, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, GreedFall, Vampyr ...)
  • Yūzō Koshiro (Streets of Rage 1, 2 & 3, Ys I & II, Sonic the Hedgehog, The Revenge Shinobi, Shenmue I & II, Super Smash Bros. Brawl for 3DS and Wii U & Ultimate, ActRaiser 1 & 2 ...)
  • Motohiro Kawashima (Streets of Rage 2 & 3, Shinobi II, Batman Returns ...)
  • Yoko Shimomura (Street Fighter II: The World Warrior, Kingdom Hearts I, II & III, Super Mario RPG, Legend of Mana, Parasite Eve ...)
  • Keiji Yamagishi (Ninja Gaiden, Tecmo Bowl, Captain Tsubasa ...)
  • Harumi Fujita (Final Fight, Mega Man 3, Bionic Commando, Strider, Ghosts ‘n Goblins, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Tomba! ...)
  • Scattle (Hotline Miami 1 & 2)
  • Das Mörtal (Hotline Miami 2)
  • XL Middleton
  • Groundislava

Streets of Rage 4 reunites Axel, Blaze, and Adam for the first mainline Streets of Rage game in more than 25 years. The highly anticipated sequel embodies the classic trilogy’s gritty, neon-streaked urban atmosphere in a fully original experience boasting a strikingly fluid hand-drawn art style. New skull-cracking playable characters, expanded combat abilities, and a pulsing soundtrack from an all-star lineup including series composers Yūzō Koshiro (Streets of Rage 1, 2, & 3, Sonic the Hedgehog) and Motohiro Kawashima (Streets of Rage 2 & 3, Shinobi II) make Streets of Rage 4 an all-out brawl of a lifetime.

Streets of Rage 4 is coming to Nintendo Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and PC in Spring 2020.
