Set in a persistent open world, it is driven by a captivating sci-fi story that picks up shortly after the events of its predecessor, but instead of the previous roguelike game mechanics, the focus in EverSpace 2 will be on open world gameplay combined with classic RPG elements and extended storytelling.
Thanks to the expanded perks and a brand new class-based player ship system with dozens of models, players can also fully customize their spaceship to their individual playing style with weapons, plating, and equipment, similar to classic RPG character development. Despite all the innovations, EverSpace 2 remains true to its space shooter core and presents fast-paced space action in the well-known EverSpace style.
The story of EverSpace 2 continues from its successful predecessor. As one of the surviving clone pilots, the player is faced with the remnants of his past: the cloning program has been canceled, the colonial authorities have placed a bounty on him, and now that dying means the ultimate death the search for the meaning of life suddenly takes on a whole new importance. Fate, however, has big plans and soon the player discovers what it means to evolve from a former military clone to a truly real person. EverSpace 2 not only creates a powerful gaming experience, but also one that is visually impressive in the beautiful infinity of space where breathtaking cinematic scenery invites - encourages - exploration.
Originally planned for full release in late 2021, EverSpace 2 is now scheduled for Q1 2022.
ROCKFISH Games is releasing the Closed Alpha of EverSpace 2 on Steam, giving more than 1,200 Kickstarter supporters an early hands-on experience with content planned for the game’s Steam Early Access release in December.
At this time, Closed Alpha keys are only available as prizes on the ROCKFISH Games Friday streams or media partner events such as CohhCarnage’s charity stream on https://www.twitch.tv/GCXEvent, starting today at CEST 2:00 pm / 8:00 am EDT / 5:00 am PDT.
“Creating large open-world games with skill-based second-to-second gameplay and complex player progression can be a beast as there are so many different ways to play through the story campaign while also free-roaming and doing side missions or mini-jobs in any given order with a myriad of possible loadouts at the players’ disposal,” said Michael Schade, CEO at ROCKFISH Games; “Following the great results of working exclusively with our most committed fans on the predecessor’s pre-release, we very much look forward to daring pilots taking the closed Alpha of EVERSPACE 2 for a spin and sharing their experience to help us nail the core game before we go into Beta and Steam Early Access, later this year.”
The Closed Alpha gives players access to approximately 10 hours of gameplay including a story beat and free exploration, culminating in the first star system’s boss fight. In addition to new Ship Devices and Ultimate Abilities, players will be able to explore the all-new pilot and companion perk system.
Through main storyline content, scripted side missions, and various jobs, players will be able to reach the Closed Alpha cap of level 10. New ships, NPCs, and equipment have been added for players to discover as they explore even more regions in space, planetary locations, and cave systems in the game’s first solar system.
The Closed Alpha is English-only, with plans to localize in French, Italian, German, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Polish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean at full release. Quality narrative cutscenes and text-to-speech mission dialogues will serve as placeholders until Steam Early Access.
Early access of EverSpace 2 on Steam is currently scheduled for December 2020, with the full version for PC, PS4 and Xbox One scheduled for release in the second half of 2022.
