'Haxity' Early Access Update Adds New Tutorial Mode, Banshee Rework

by Rainier on July 6, 2020 @ 8:00 a.m. PDT

Haxity is a cyberpunk, roguelite, action deck-builder where you draft your deck, modify your fighter and outsmart your opponent, whether it be online, challenging friends or against AI.

Haxity seeks to deliver a never-before-seen card gaming experience, while being one of the very first PVP movers in the exciting new action deck-builder genre. A genre of card games where a major part of the gameplay is to draft cards and modify your deck as you play.

In Haxity you jack into a gritty cyberpunk sprawl, where a mixed bag of derelicts are fighting to survive the daily grind. This is where you come in, the player. You must survive the city, work your way up the ranks and find the optimal strategy to crush your foes. At your disposal is a hefty amount of cool gadgets, black market technologies and hacks.

The cards can be mixed, mashed and hacked, and the outcome can turn around…really fast. It’s street fighting, the cyberpunk way. It has the combos and powerful emotions of a fighting game, mixed with the mind-games and depth of card games. In short; a digital card game where every move you make is decided with cards, and where every playthrough is different.

Haxity offers two game modes: Versus and Campaign. In Versus matches, players are pitted against a matchmade opponent or can challenge friends to an intense one-on-one match. Players will select their fighter, one of Haxity’s warped citizens, their starter deck and draft different cards, hacks and mods between each battle. Haxity’s roguelite campaign mode allows players to further explore the possibilities of deckbuilding all while deep diving into the world of Haxity.

Haxity ReCharged is the first update that the game receives after its Early Access release just a few weeks ago, and introduces important rework for Banshee abilities, and a brand new tutorial to learn the basics of the game.

“We are a little more than 2 weeks past our Early Access release. And we now have our first major patch for Haxity. With a lot of feedback from the community we are now addressing some of the issues that have been highlighted. This is an ongoing process and as we have said we are developing this game with the community for the community”, said Erlend Kirkebø, producer on Haxity.

Tutorial Run: New-player Experience

One of the earliest feedback we got after releasing in Early Access was about the new-player experience. Haxity has a lot of complexity, tons of cards and mods, and is also doing something new to the genre that even experienced card players might be puzzled with. With that in mind we are now expanding our new-player experience with a tutorial to teach the player the basics that is needed to understand the game. This is a first version of the tutorial where we teach the players the basics of fighting in Haxity.

In addition to the tutorial we have done several UX/UI improvements to make it easier to understand what is going on in a certain turn and convey more of the relevant information to the player with better visual communcation.

Banshee Rework

The team has done a rework to Banshee abilities, starting for her 'Charged mechanics', since it was too convoluted, while at the same time add more cards that supported the 'charged matters' archetype.

"Banshee is an assassin on rollerblades! She has hight burst damage, lots of tricks and very little tools in terms of mitigating damage," says Thomas Sørensen. "We wanted to give Banshee a stronger overall identity, to make it easier for new players that wanted to start playing with her and revitalize her use of hacks."

Haxity is currently available through Steam Early Access.
