Players get to play as a team of scavengers, forced to explore and extract valuable artefacts from a vast underground complex that has been overrun by horrifying monsters. Gather weapons, tools and resources to help you survive - and work to unearth the answers about your past and how to escape.
In GTFO, you and your friends will explore hostile and terrifying environments where, in an instant, you are thrown from edge-of-your-seat suspense to frantic action. It’s a large-scale experience, testing players in their ability to gear up and adapt to an endless string of unknown and ever-changing challenges.
GTFO utilizes a unique content delivery system called “Rundowns” — regular game updates that added new limited-time expeditions (maps, scenarios, challenges, enemies, etc.) that completely replaced the previous Rundown.
Cast in a four-player team of prisoners held against their will by a mysterious entity called The Warden, a player’s survival depends on their team’s ability to communicate, coordinate, and manage their ammunition — else they doom themselves to a bloody, messy death. Through the Rundown system, The Warden subjects prisoners to a never-ending series of nightmarish expeditions that go deeper into a place called The Complex. To The Warden, data is invaluable, and human lives are expendable.
GTFO is a game with a thick atmosphere intercut by intense action - and the experienced development team shows its strengths in all aspects of the presentation.
GTFO v1.0 to feature continuation of the rundown system, improved graphics, enhanced matchmaking, new environments and items, quality of life changes, and more!
Released in December 2019 in Steam Early Access and in development for a total of six years, GTFO Version 1.0 significantly evolves the terrifying and hardcore game that’s often described as “Left 4 Dead meets Aliens”. Following five major Rundown releases during Early Access, GTFO will expand upon the concept further and continue to offer players new Rundowns featuring varied gameplay experiences and expeditions that aim to further expand the game for years to come.
“During the Early Access phase, we have delivered a total of 50 expeditions in our five Rundowns, throwing a range of tough challenges to our community. There have been theories that this concept is something we're just using during Early Access to try out different gameplay mechanics, but I am happy to say that the Rundown updates will continue with GTFO in Version 1.0,” said Simon Viklund, Narrative Director and Composer at 10 Chambers.
As 10 Chambers’ premier game release, GTFO leveraged its time in Steam Early Access to gather player feedback and refine the gameplay experience. The game’s release depended entirely on when the studio felt that it was worthy of a full release that provided players with an enjoyable amount of in-game content and quality of life features. In addition to new game environments, communication tools, and weapons, GTFO Version 1.0 will introduce improvements to the game’s graphical rendering, new animations, enhanced online matchmaking, and much more.
“With the success of GTFO's Early Access launch, we've been able to grow our development team and give each part of the game the focus it deserves. The game will have a very noticeable transition from Early Access to Version 1.0, richer in content, but also the quality of life down in the Complex – stuff like better glass rendering, new third person animations, a handy communication wheel, and weapons that move more realistically. Small stuff, but when you add it all up – and it's a lot of stuff, it gives you an even better experience of the game,” said Ulf Andersson, CEO at 10 Chambers.
As previously communicated by 10 Chambers, ahead of GTFO’s formal version 1.0 launch out of Steam Early Access, the price will marginally increase from $34.99 to $39.99.
“We have consistently communicated that we will increase the price for Version 1.0, as we think it's reasonable that you pay less for a game while it's still in Early Access development. The new price will be $39.99 in the US, and the Rundown updates will keep dropping as a Version 1.0 game. The price increase will happen on November 1st, several weeks before the Version 1.0 launch, to keep the authorities happy. If you want to grab GTFO on a deal, keep an eye out for a final sale before the increase,” said Robin Björkell, Communications Director at 10 Chambers.
