Are you worthy of entering Valhalla? You have been sent to Valheim, the 10th Norse world. Only by defeating the mighty beasts of these lands will you win the favor of the gods. This quest will take you to the far reaches of this world, from the deepest forest to the highest mountain peak.
Valheim is an open-world exploration survival game set in a vast procedurally-generated purgatory inspired by norse mythology and viking culture. Players are tasked with taking back the realm from the ancient enemies of Odin, building mead halls and castles, crafting weapons and armour, and sailing the seas in search of new horizons and win the favor of the gods.
Valheim is a game about exploring a huge fantasy world inspired by norse mythology and viking culture. You start your adventure at the relatively peaceful center of Valheim. The further from the center you travel, the more challenging the world becomes. But you will also find more valuable materials that you can use to craft deadlier weapons and sturdier armor. You will also build your own viking strongholds and outposts all over the world. Eventually you will build a mighty longship and sail the great oceans in search of exotic lands … but be wary of sailing too far...
Valheim is a huge procedurally-generated world, inviting players to explore lush forests, snow-topped mountain ranges and mystical meadows, all presented in striking Lo-Fi graphics. Valheim offers a dodge & block based combat system with a wide range of weapons for deathless vikings to battle primordial bosses of myth and legend. The viking adventure is playable solo, or with up to nine friends as no one wants to repeatedly face death alone. Between deaths, Valheim offers a flexible house and base building system, intuitive item crafting and ship building, and dedicated servers.
Valheim is now available through Steam Early Access for $19.99.
Coffee Stain Publishing and Iron Gate Studio are delighted to reveal that their new game Valheim has surpassed one million units sold, seeing it take pole position on the Global Top Sellers list on Steam.
On Tuesday February 9th, Valheim became the fourth most played game on Steam, hosting over 160,000 peak concurrent users, surpassing Grand Theft Auto V, Apex Legends and Rocket League, according to the platform. Alongside critical and player acclaim, Valheim has also proven popular with some of the world’s biggest content creators, seeing over 127,000 peak viewers on Twitch on the evening of February 8th.
Richard Svensson, CEO, Iron Gate Studio, commented on the reasons behind Valheim’s success: “Valheim is a cooperative game about exploring a huge rather colorful world with very few borders or limits, that's been released during a global pandemic when a lot of people are locked inside their homes and unable to see their friends and family. Hopefully being clubbed by a troll together will make them feel better" said Richard Svensson, CEO, Iron Gate Studio. “Thanks to an awesome publisher that allowed us to follow our vision and for understanding that you can't rush creativity.”
“When we signed Valheim and Iron Gate, which at the time was just Richard, we knew the game was awesome, but it has continued to surpass our expectations at every turn. When we’re scouting for games, solo developers and small teams stand out, because they come with a focused vision, and obvious talent, but with plenty of room for us to support,” said Sebastian Badylak, Executive Producer, Coffee Stain Publishing. “Valheim is a perfect example of what an agile, super talented team can achieve when you give them the room and tools to make what they want. This is just the beginning.”
