'Going Medieval' Is Coming to Steam Early Access - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on March 19, 2021 @ 1:00 p.m. PDT

Going Medieval is a alternate medieval history colony sim where you claim land, build a multi-story fortress and defend your village (and villagers!).

Going Medieval transports players to the year 1346, just as the known world began to recover from the calamity known as Black Death. Survivors emerging from society’s ashes migrated and re-settled areas reclaimed by nature. Players will guide their villagers and protect them from outlaws, barbarians, and religious fanatics in a classless, borderless, lawless post-calamity age.

Plan, create and build your settlement using a variety of materials at your disposal, protect your villagers from the elements, including hunger, enemies and even the weather, and defend your village from rival factions by building impenetrable, multistory fortresses or strategically placed archers and traps. Observe your villagers, all with unique histories and agendas, to figure out how to best serve them - happy villagers are productive villagers, after all.

Going Medieval’s single-player experience puts you in control in one of the darkest and dangerous periods of humanity’s history - navigate the dangers or perish like so many before you. With almost infinite replayability options, no playthrough is the same.

Developer Foxy Voxel and publisher The Irregular Corporation announced that Going Medieval will be coming to Steam Early Access this Spring, and will remain so for about a year.

“We've worked on Going Medieval for some time already and, while we feel that it's playable and fun (even in its current version), there are still advanced mechanics and systems missing for it to become a fully-rounded experience. By offering the game to a larger audience before its completion, we can receive essential feedback to help us balance out the experience and make the final game the best it can possibly be.”

“The game has the following systems implemented: building and crafting, combat and defence mechanics, villager behavior and personalities, resource management, flora and fauna simulation, and production systems.”

Upcoming content/features during early access :

  • Expanded Villager Relationships - Manage the love lives of your villagers, and make sure they don’t become fierce rivals
  • Improved World Economy - Trade with other settlements, and make crucial decisions about where to settle and why
  • Complex World Factions - Explore beyond your immediate colony, and contend with groups of both allies and enemies
  • Enhanced Siege Warfare - Trade blows using devastating and iconic medieval siege weaponry, such as ballistae and catapults
And Much More - Including more base-building options, refined survival systems and mechanics, and new in-game events.”

Key Features:

  • In the world of Going Medieval, dark age society is on its knees. At the end of the 14th century, 95% of the global population has perished due to rampant plague. In the wake of such pestilence, the land is reclaimed by nature. Eventually, survivors emerge from society’s ashes. Now, you must guide such a group. Build them a home and protect them from outlaws, barbarians, and fanatics in a classless, borderless, and lawless post-calamity age.
  • Design, build and expand your settlement from a small wooden hut into a colossal stone castle. With simple-to-use 3D terrain tools you can create the perfect stronghold, from winding underground caverns to sprawling multi-story forts.
  • This stark post-calamity world is rife with external threats, but you can give your colonists the upper hand in battle by building impenetrable defenses and traps. Research, craft and equip weapons and gear so that they can fight back against unrelenting waves of attackers.
  • Your colonists have more than just raids to contend with. They need protection from starvation and the elements. Stock up on supplies and build shelter to keep them fed and warm. Maintain your villagers’ emotional states, as their moods are affected if their needs and wants aren’t met.
  • Increase your populace by helping out strangers in dangerous situations or by taking in like-minded travelers. Your villagers have personal histories and agendas. Get to know them by observing their behavior and relationships with others.

Going Medieval is coming to PC (Steam) in 2021.
