'Watch Dogs: Legion' (ALL) Updated Roadmap, Title Update 4.5 Delayed, Includes Performance Mode

by Rainier on May 24, 2021 @ 12:20 a.m. PDT

Watch Dogs: Legion is set in a near-future, dystopian version of London. It's a post-Brexit world in which society, politics and technology have changed and altered London's fortunes.

In Watch Dogs: Legion, London is facing its downfall. Amidst the growing unrest of a restless London, a mysterious entity known as Zero-Day has framed secret underground resistance DedSec for coordinated bombings across London. In the aftermath, criminal opportunists from every dark corner of London took hold and filled the void left by a defeated government. As a member of DedSec, players will be going up against criminal opportunists in Watch Dogs: Legion; sadists, mercenaries, cybercriminals, and more; they’ll have to be prepared for a variety of situations. Players must recruit members into their DedSec Resistance to take on these criminal opportunists, liberate London and uncover the mystery behind Zero-Day.

Built with a next-gen concept, Watch Dogs: Legion introduces "Play as Anyone," a never-before-seen gameplay innovation created by Ubisoft Toronto. Play as Anyone gives players the entire city of London to choose their roster of resistance members from. Every single person in the open world can be recruited and played, is unique and has a backstory, personality and skillset.

Watch Dogs: Legion lets players recruit anyone they can see in the open world to be part of their DedSec Resistance up to 40 characters at a time. The London setting gives players the perfect backdrop to recruit all kinds of characters – who each have unique skills and weapons – to their Resistance: from an MI6 agent to a bareknuckle fighter, from a brilliant hacker to a getaway driver, from a football hooligan to an inconspicuous old lady. Players can play as any character from their roster of recruits and approach a situation based on their preference; whether the approach is from the sky while riding high on a cargo drone as a construction worker, or on the ground as a spy using high-tech gadgets like a gun-jamming watch and a prototype of a rocket-firing car, the choice is for the player to make.

In Watch Dogs: Legion, the players' choices have real consequences. If non-lethal force is used, the enemy will attempt to subdue and arrest the player. But if the player shoots to kill, their characters could be wounded or even permanently killed.

In Watch Dogs: Legion, players can even bring their team online and team up with their friends in four-player co-op, while sharing their progression between single-player and online.

The team is hard at work on the next updates, but we want to talk to you about changes we’ve made to the roadmap, including new Quality of Life changes that you’ve been asking for, as well as provide a closer look at upcoming content and features.

Our next big patch for all platforms will be TU 4.5, which we’re aiming to deploy on June 1st. While we initially planned to release it in late May, we want to make sure that the different teams working on separate pieces of content have the time they need to create the best game experiences possible.

This extra time will also allow us to fix bugs found in TU 4.0, as well as add some more Quality of Life improvements. We’re happy to let you know that 60 FPS, or “performance mode”, is coming to consoles with TU 4.5. We’re also adding the ability for you to play with friends on the same console family; Xbox One players with Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 4 players with PlayStation 5.

With this approach we have decided to move both Invasion and Extraction PVP modes to our August update. We want to invest more time into solid public & private matchmaking, as it’s key for us to provide you with a smooth, enjoyable PvP experience.

Last, but certainly not least, we know you have been patiently waiting for the Bloodline Story DLC. Alongside the Story Expansion, TU 5.0 will also bring Aiden and Wrench to the main game, allowing you to play the entire campaign of Watch Dogs: Legion with these two legacy characters.

And you may have noticed a surprise in the roadmap…. Please stay tuned for more!
