'The Spectrum Retreat' Free On Epic Games Store, 'Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead' and 'Ironcast' Next Week

by Rainier on July 1, 2021 @ 5:34 p.m. PDT

For the next week, the Epic Games Store is offering one title for free: The Spectrum Retreat.

The Spectrum Retreat

The Spectrum Retreat is a challenging, first-person puzzle game set in the near future.

In The Spectrum Retreat, players must explore the pristine and uncanny hotel, The Penrose, solving its ingenious colour-coded puzzles and discovering the reasons behind their seemingly never-ending stay.

The Spectrum Retreat takes place in the near future at The Penrose hotel, a peaceful yet unsettling refuge from the outside world. As a valued guest, your existence is embedded into the corridors and guest rooms of The Penrose. Through exploration of the striking art-deco hotel you will begin to uncover the mysteries of both The Penrose and the uncertainties surrounding your current stay. Your desire to unearth the truth is obstructed by an array of colour coded first-person puzzles, mind-bending physics challenges and the growing fear of exposing your true intentions.

Having won the BAFTA Young Game Designers Award (YGD) 2016 for the prototype when he was only 18 years old, Dan Smith has subsequently developed the game with the support of Ripstone, building an intriguing narrative around the intuitive first-person puzzle action.

Once The Spectrum Retreat, the current free game on the Epic Games Store, has run its course, it will be up to Bridge Constructor: The Walking Dead and Ironcast, which will be gratis starting July 8 until July 15, 2021.

Ironcast

Ironcast is a turn-based steampunk mech combat game inspired by Victorian-era science fiction writers such as H.G. Wells and Jules Verne.

Inspired by Victorian era science fiction writers such as H.G. Wells and Jules Verne, Ironcast is set in an exciting alternative history; a time when refined men and women in top hats and bonnets commanded gigantic walking war machines, laying waste to the enemies of the British Empire!

Battles are fought by generating resource nodes which in turn drive the Ironcast's various weapons and systems. Players must choose how to spend these nodes wisely, either offensively in order to cripple and destroy their opponents, or defensively, if they suspect a barrage of incoming weapons fire is due.

As Commanders of the Consortium of Merit, players take control of their own 7 metre tall Ironcast – each towering construct bursting with advanced Victorian era weapon systems and electrical shields. Players must face off against an invading enemy force in order to defend 1880's Victorian England.

The roguelite style of Ironcast enforces that death is permanent, but rewards are persistent and no two campaigns are the same. With randomly generated missions, over 50 unlockable items and the potential for rare enemy loot drops, commanders will face a new crusade with every play through.

Be a hero, join the fight, save your country.
