'Going Medieval' Early Access Update Adds New Features, Quality-of-life Improvements And More - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 9, 2021 @ 11:19 a.m. PDT

Going Medieval is a alternate medieval history colony sim where you claim land, build a multi-story fortress and defend your village (and villagers!).

Going Medieval transports players back to the Dark Ages, as the known world recovers from a calamitous plague. Survivors have emerged from society’s ashes, and it’s up to you to help them settle in a dangerous land reclaimed by nature. Build your people a home, help shape their lives, and protect them from animals, bandits, and other dangers in a lawless post-calamity age.

Plan, create and build your settlement using a variety of materials at your disposal. Protect your settlers from the elements, including hunger, enemies and even the weather, and defend your colony from rival factions by building impenetrable, multistory fortresses or strategically placed archers and traps. Observe your settlers, all with unique histories and agendas, to figure out how to best serve them - happy people are productive people, after all.

Going Medieval puts you in control in one of the most dark and dangerous periods of humanity’s history - navigate the dangers or perish like so many before you. With almost infinite replayability options, no playthrough is the same.

Hot on the heels of Going Medieval’s chart-topping Early Access launch in June, publisher The Irregular Corporation and developer Foxy Voxel are excited to announce that the game’s first major update launches today on all storefronts.

Update 1 introduces a handful of additions, improvements and fixes aimed at securing the game’s foundations ahead of larger content updates in the months to come. Highlights include the much-requested addition of new storage types like weapon and clothing racks, shelves and chests, larger maps (expanding from the original 190x190 to 220x220 and 250x250) and new options for managing stockpiles, alongside other quality-of-life additions. Full details can be found in the update changelog

Going Medieval is now available through Early Access (Epic Games Store, Steam and GOG.com) for $24.99.

Key Features:

  • In the world of Going Medieval, dark age society is on its knees. At the end of the 14th century, 95% of the global population has perished due to rampant plague. In the wake of such pestilence, the land is reclaimed by nature. Eventually, survivors emerge from society’s ashes. Now, you must guide such a group. Build them a home and protect them from outlaws, barbarians, and fanatics in a classless, borderless, and lawless post-calamity age.
  • Design, build and expand your settlement from a small wooden hut into a colossal stone castle. With simple-to-use 3D terrain tools you can create the perfect stronghold, from winding underground caverns to sprawling multi-story forts.
  • This stark post-calamity world is rife with external threats, but you can give your colonists the upper hand in battle by building impenetrable defenses and traps. Research, craft and equip weapons and gear so that they can fight back against unrelenting waves of attackers.
  • Your colonists have more than just raids to contend with. They need protection from starvation and the elements. Stock up on supplies and build shelter to keep them fed and warm. Maintain your villagers’ emotional states, as their moods are affected if their needs and wants aren’t met.
  • Increase your populace by helping out strangers in dangerous situations or by taking in like-minded travelers. Your villagers have personal histories and agendas. Get to know them by observing their behavior and relationships with others.

Going Medieval is coming to PC (Epic Games Store, Steam and GOG.com) in 2022.
