'Police Simulator: Patrol Officers' Reveals Development Roadmap With Post-Launch Content & DLCs

by Rainier on Oct. 27, 2022 @ 9:35 a.m. PDT

Handcuffs and radar on hand, players will don the badge of a male or female United States police officer and patrol the first district and five neighborhoods of a bustling American city.

Police Simulator: Patrol Officers will paint a realistic picture of a patrol officer’s job in a fictional American city called Brighton. Police fans will wear their virtual badges proudly as they ensure order and safety. Players will be able to patrol the first neighborhood of the introductory city district at launch. If they perform well with their superiors, they’ll unlock access to four more neighborhoods in this first district, where pedestrians and vehicular traffic simulate the impression of a living complex metropolis.

Police fans will begin their careers by choosing one of eight different playable characters. Instead of a lengthy tutorial, a system of unlockable content will teach players all the  skills they need while on patrol. Handy tool tips will provide additional information.

Collecting shift-points during the workday, which in turn become duty stars, will unlock new districts, new neighborhoods, and new police cars. During shifts, tasks will include enforcing parking regulations, recording traffic accidents, and penalizing traffic offenses like speeding or jaywalking. On top of that, players will have to keep an eye out for wanted suspects.

Appropriate and lawful behavior towards Brighton’s citizens is an integral part of Police Simulator: Patrol Officers. A Conduct Point System will log and penalize abuses of power. Virtual police officers who are found to have acted against the law and the department’s code of conduct will be stripped of their badges and fired.

The title also will include a casual game mode where players will be able to receive hints they wouldn’t normally receive in the main simulation portion of the game. Players will receive tips on crimes occurring in their immediate vicinity. Additionally, they’ll be shown more leniency when it comes to breaking the law, such as speeding or jaywalking. Serious offences like police brutality, however, will still be severely punished. Players will also be able to disable police vehicle collisions with NPCs while in this mode.

While fans are preparing for the Police Simulator: Patrol Officers launch on 10 November, developer Aesir Interactive and publisher astragon Entertainment are already giving a further preview of the free updates as well as a paid DLC after release.

Since the beginning of 2021, the crime rate in Brighton has increased so much that the Police Department hired numerous new officers as early as June 2021. Fortunately, officers from all over the world have joined the Brighton Police Department both on their own and in teams of two. Thanks to their energetic support through Steam Early Access, the new crime wave was successfully contained. All officers will receive an Urban Terrain Vehicle as a thank you, which will be available for their vehicle shifts from November 10.

However, the findings of the Brighton PD Analyst Team show that despite the increase in forces, the number of offence variants has increased dramatically over the same period. While the summer of 2021 was characterised by a manageable amount of offences such as parking violations, causing accidents through misconduct such as alcohol or drug use, or disobeying traffic laws, since then there has been an increase in new criminal activity, including driving with stolen vehicles, dealing in illegal narcotics, drinking in public, pickpocketing, graffiti vandalism and more.

Brighton PD calls for recruitment again due to latest development

This trend is expected to continue and new crimes will be committed in the metropolis. The Brighton Police Department is therefore once again looking for numerous new police officers who will start their service on November 10. Those interested in securing one of the coveted positions by November 10 will also receive an Urban Terrain Vehicle upon commencement of duty.

The DLC can be purchased from release at a price of 2.99 Euro/2.49 GBP/2.99 USD and contains an additional high-performance vehicle for mobile service.

After the start of duty on November 10, the officers will also have the opportunity to continue their education and further professionalise themselves in a free special training programme that will run until mid-2023. In the training sessions, they will learn, among other things, how to stop fleeing suspects by tackling instead of using an electric gun or aiming a firearm. They will also practise the use of communicative commands, which will enable them to interact better with their shift partner. The detailed training plan as well as the training contents are available to the officers here:

What awaits new officers in their service

As part of the Brighton PD, officers are tasked with patrolling the coastal city of Brighton and keeping law and order. At the beginning of their career, they are assigned to tasks such as issuing parking tickets and stopping speeders, and then gradually move on to more serious offences: They record accidents, solve thefts and robberies, track down people wanted on arrest warrants, thwart drug trafficking and much more. In doing so, they must also strictly abide by the rules themselves, because if they treat citizens unfairly or break the law, their shift ends. In case of a repeat offence, they are threatened with dismissal. If they do their work satisfactorily, they are allowed to work in more and more districts of the city and are given a wider choice of official vehicles.

Update 8.0

Update 8.0 brings some improvements to the "Ask for directions" feature to the game, in addition to general fixes and improvements. Also, with the update, emergency vehicles will come from the opposite lane to avoid getting stuck in traffic jams. In addition, there will be the possibility to cancel a call for an ambulance or tow truck again.

Update 9.0

With the 9.0 update, officers can file multiple charges for one person. In addition, the update introduces another method of arrest: stopping a fleeing person by tackling.

Update 10.0

The update 10.0 will enable players to better interact within a multiplayer game through predefined commands. The update will also allow them to adjust balancing values to tailor the game experience to their own style. In addition, the minimap will also be visible while on foot patrol outside of a vehicle.

But there are also plans for the period after the first half of 2023, which will be revealed in the near future. Virtual police officers can look forward to many exciting shifts in the Brighton PD!

Key Features:

  • Parking surveillance – Situative issuing of parking tickets and/or towing of vehicles for parking against the direction of travel, exceeding the permitted parking time, and non-observance of parking restrictions. Fines may  also be issued for parked cars with expired license plates.
  • Traffic violations by pedestrians – If a pedestrian is endangering themselves and others (by ignoring a red light at an intersection, for instance), officers should intervene. Careless littering is also frowned upon on the streets and sidewalks of Brighton.
  • Traffic accidents – Different types of accidents, which can develop dynamically from traffic events, will demand different actions by officers. This includes calling for an ambulance, interviewing witnesses, drug and alcohol tests, and more. Players should always keep a watchful eye on moving traffic.
  • Speed control – Measure the speed of moving vehicles while standing on the roadside with a radar gun or by utilizing the speed measuring instrument in one’s police car. Issue tickets when appropriate.
  • Search and arrest wanted suspects: Now and then, the police department’s call center will issue information about wanted suspects. One may encounter a person matching the call center’s descriptions during patrol. A key element of investigations is questioning witnesses, as they might offer valuable information regarding a suspect.
  • Traffic control – Going on patrol in one’s police car will offer players new perspectives on Brighton’s traffic and streets. Use sirens to pass around other vehicles or to prompt them to pull over.
  • The Crime Map will help fans maintain an overview of the different districts and neighborhoods of Brighton. Players will be able to monitor increases in offences in order to determine which areas demand a stronger police presence.

Currently available through Steam Early Access, Police Simulator: Patrol Officers is coming to PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam) on November 10, 2022.
