'Splatoon 3' Splatfest Kicks Off Pokémon Collaboration In November

by Rainier on Oct. 7, 2022 @ 9:06 a.m. PDT

Splatoon 3 is the next installment in the 4 vs. 4 action shooter, leaving Inkopolis behind and heading to a new region: the Splatlands.

Enter the Splatlands, a sun-scorched desert inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. Splatsville, the city of chaos, is the adrenaline-fueled heart of this dusty wasteland. Even in this desolate environment, Turf War reigns supreme and battles rage in new stages located in the surrounding wilds.

Dynamic new moves help these fighters dodge attacks and cover more ground, along with a new bow-shaped weapon to sling ink, and more customization options.

In Splatoon 3, online 4-v-4 Turf War battles can create heated matches across a mix of new and returning stages, where teams of four face off to cover the most ground in their ink. Newly uncovered footage provides insight on one of these new stages, Eeltail Alley, along with a look at the stringer – a new bow-shaped weapon type that enables you to sling ink sideways and vertically.

In addition to frantic 4-v-4 multiplayer matches, Splatoon 3 also features a fresh single-player campaign and the next iteration of the co-op Salmon Run mode. In the single-player story mode, you’ll join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze. When diving into Salmon Run, you’ll ink up with teammates** to fend off waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses, some of which are colossal in size!

Yep, you read that right – the next Splatfest in the Splatoon 3 game for the Nintendo Switch system is going to be a Splatoon x Pokémon collaboration!

Grass-type. Fire-type. Water-type. Since 1998 (or 1996 depending on where you lived), this debate has perplexed our great philosophers. In the Pokémon series, players typically start their adventure by choosing a Pokémon with one of these three types. Each has its own strengths and weaknesses (literally – it’s part of the game!).

But now we bring the question back to you. When choosing your partner Pokémon, which type would you choose: Grass-type, Fire-type or Water-type? If you have thoughts on the matter, let’s settle it in a Splatfest!

Splatfests are special, limited-time events in Splatoon 3 where players with any Nintendo Switch Online membership can choose to champion one of three causes.

After you make your choice from the Splatsville hub area, which will be decorated in a lively way for the event, you’ll participate in Splatfest Battles. The goal is to ink as much of the stage as you can without getting splatted too often. Splatfests also feature Tricolor Turf War battles, where players splat it out in three team messfests! At the end of the event, the winning side will be revealed, and in-game Super Sea Snails will be handed out (with the winning side getting more, of course).

So, is the grass greener on your side? Does reading this fire you up? Do you want to splash cold water on your opponents’ hopes and dreams? Well, it might be time to start practicing those Squid Rolls! The Splatfest will take place from Friday, Nov. 11, at 4 p.m. PT to Sunday, Nov. 13, at 4 p.m. PT.

Key Features:

  • Ink it up with a new entry in the Splatoon series
  • Discover the Splatlands, a new sun-soaked region with trendsetting inhabitants
  • Experiment with new styles for Inklings and Octolings
  • 4v4 Turf Wars are back, with new stages, new maneuvers, and new weapons

Splatoon 3 is available for Nintendo Switch.
