'Moonbreaker' Early Access Update Adds New Map, Audio Drama Episode and More

by Rainier on Dec. 2, 2022 @ 10:52 a.m. PST

Moonbreaker is a turn-based, tabletop tactics game designed to be a true digital miniatures experience set in an expansive sci-fi universe.

Through accessible turn-based competitive gameplay, ongoing content releases, and deep customization, Moonbreaker will offer a variety of gameplay experiences, especially for fans of tabletop and collectible card games. Players will be able to lead their Rosters - which are made up of Captains, Crew and Assists - in fast-paced, turn-based encounters with a variety of gameplay possibilities.

Moonbreaker is set in an original sci-fi world crafted by renowned author Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn series, Stormlight Archive, Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time). Players will battle in various locations across the Reaches – a tiny solar system with moons held in orbit by a scarce resource called Cinder. Players will also be able to learn more about the world of Moonbreaker and its characters through upcoming audio dramas that will release closer to its Early Access launch.

Every aspect of Moonbreaker is designed to capture the feel of a physical miniatures game without the real-world limitations. With detailed, intuitive and constantly evolving painting tools, players can take their Unit customization to the next level. Custom palettes, beautiful finishes, customizable roster banners and professional digital painting tools create the perfect space for player expression. Players can paint their Units using traditional painting techniques (but with an undo button!) or marvel at beautiful paint jobs created by professional miniatures painters.

Krafton and Unknown Worlds just released Moonbreaker’s latest game update, Astra’s Story (also known as EA 1.2), which includes the new Cholek Excavation Site map, launches the third episode of the game’s “Moonbreaker: Tales From The Reaches” audio drama podcast series, and more.

While a comprehensive breakdown of the Astra’s Story update can be found below, here are the key highlights.

  • Dig Into A New Map: Players can now play on Cholek Excavation Site, Moonbreaker’s second map based on the Cholek Culture. Cholek Excavation Site features a collection of huge, magnificent head statues made by the Cholek themselves. These statues – the eyes of which are beautiful, polished purple gemstones of unknown name and value – were uncovered by a team of Smugglers who were digging for Cinder.
  • A New Slice Of The Story: For players interested in learning more about the universe and characters that author Brandon Sanderson crafted, the Astra’s Story update introduces the third episode of the “Moonbreaker: Tales From The Reaches” audio drama series. This latest episode, “Astra’s Story,” is available in-game or on digital podcast platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, iHeart Media, Amazon Podcasts and Stitcher.
  • A New, Easier Way To Showcase Paint Jobs: For the aspiring or seasoned artists who find themselves spending time painting their Units with Moonbreaker’s intuitive and innovative in-game painting tool, they can now share their Paint Jobs directly to their social media channels from in the game. It is now as easy as it has ever been for players to highlight their miniature painting talents with their followers.

PATCH NOTES EA 1.2

BIG STUFF

  • Audio drama episode 3, Astra’s Story!
  • New Map: Cholek Excavation Site.
  • In-game support to share your paint-job via social media flavor of choice.
  • Added more specific messaging on the Victory screen to communicate the conditions for wins/losses. I.e. ‘Victory, Concede’ etc.
  • Implemented a toggle so that you can mute/unmute audio on loss of focus.
  • Improved and relocated the Create Roster button.
  • Added the correct battle music to Cholek maps.
  • Added new “intro” screens to various modes for first time players. Let us know what you think!
  • Lots of bug fixes, including a nasty medical recall bug!
GAMEPLAY
  • Added support for future gameplay changes (nothing you’ll see yet, but is coming soon…!)
  • Continuing to monitor Second Wind ship assist. So far it seems to have done a good job correcting the P1/P2 balance, but we’re keeping an eye on it.
  • Poison damage now only applies to rivals: Furia with Poison will no longer damage herself to 1hp when her passive triggers.
  • Fix: Beatris spear damage not happening until the end of a Broken Vengeance attack chain.
  • Fix: Beatris' spear no longer hits through hard cover.
  • Fix: Tipu not growing for every attack when attacking Broken Vengeance.
  • Fix: Issue where unit actions would sometimes appear interactable but not perform any action when clicked (Also: Using the attack or move buttons after Deadeye's “Release Ozos” ability will make these action buttons non-functional).
  • Fix: Issue where units that took damage using “on turn start” trigger were not valid Plink targets.
  • Fix: Stat changes such as Tipu's growth or the relic Armor Plates being picked up now properly count as “health change” and allow the unit to be targeted by Plink.

Moonbreaker is in development for PC (Steam), scheduled for launch in 2023/2024.
