'Core Keeper' Adds Dedicated Servers Support, Reveals The Sunken Sea Content Update Details

by Rainier on May 11, 2022 @ 10:11 a.m. PDT

Core Keeper is a mining sandbox adventure where players mine relics and resources to build a base, craft equipment, defeat giant monsters, and survive.

In Core Keeper, a mining sandbox adventure, players are drawn toward a mysterious relic.

You are an explorer who awakens in an ancient cavern of creatures, resources and trinkets. Mine relics and resources to build your base, craft new equipment, survive, and power up the Core.

Defeat giant monsters, discover hidden secrets, farm crops, cook new recipes and explore a procedurally generated underground world in a mining sandbox adventure for 1-8 players.

Pugstorm and Fireshine Games announced that a new update for Core Keeper is now available, introducing official dedicated server support to the hit 1-8 player mining sandbox adventure.

From today, Core Keeper players will have the option to operate their own dedicated servers, allowing them to host multiplayer worlds for players to access at any time.

From this moment onwards, players will have the option to operate their own dedicated servers for multiplayer worlds that can be accessed at any time without requiring a host to be in the game. If dedicated servers aren’t your thing, you’ll be pleased to know that in-game player-hosted multiplayer is still available at any time, and this now uses Steam’s networking back end when connecting players – solving many of the networking issues users have been reporting. We’ve also added a new admin functionality that will give players the option to kick people from their worlds across both dedicated servers and player-hosted games.

If you’d like to host your own dedicated server you can do so using Core Keeper’s own dedicated server hosting application, which will be available to run from the Tools menu in your Steam Library. If you helped us test dedicated servers on the experimental branch, you may remember that port forwarding was required, but this is no longer necessary.

Pugstorm also revealed the first official details on ‘The Sunken Sea’ update, the first major content update for Core Keeper planned to release in June.

The Sunken Sea update will introduce a brand-new water-based biome to the game filled with large, mysterious bodies of water to explore and islands to uncover. Explorers will be able to traverse The Sunken Sea in boats, a brand-new method of transport introduced with the upcoming update, and encounter multiple new enemy types as they get to grips with new weapons and gear, mine new valuables and ore, experiment with new base building items and discover new fish, plants and food.

For the full reveal of The Sunken Sea update, check out the PC Gaming Show on Sunday, June 12.

“We are delighted to officially introduce dedicated server support to Core Keeper and reveal the first information on The Sunken Sea update,” said Sven Thole, CEO & Animator at Pugstorm. “Dedicated servers have been requested since the start of the game’s launch into Steam Early Access, and we’d like to say a huge thank you to the members of our incredible community who have helped test this feature ahead of its official launch today. We’re also excited to see players’ reactions to the reveal of the first details on The Sunken Sea biome and are looking forward to sharing much more with players in the weeks ahead."
