'Splitgate' Final Update/Free Battle Pass Later This Month As Dev Team Moves On To New Unreal Engine 5 Shooter Project

by Rainier on Sept. 2, 2022 @ 2:31 p.m. PDT

Splitgate is a multiplayer first-person shooter that uses player-controlled portals to create a new dimension of arena combat.

Splitgate evokes your favorite memories of the most-revered shooters of the past two decades, embracing the classic and familiar feel of arena multiplayer with a multi-directional twist. Splitgate: Arena Warfare’s world-bending portal mechanic lets players instantly create and link gateways around the map, encouraging and rewarding constant jetpack-boosted movement, strategic flanking and ambushes, and action that truly embraces all 360 degrees. It also looks really cool.

Splitgateis designed to be equally accessible to first-time and veteran FPS players, with an infinitely high skill cap that will take players hundreds of hours to refine and master. Splitgate is built in Unreal Engine 4 by 1047 Games, a passionate group of Halo fans, whose experience and love for the genre transcends the typical development team.

1047 Games announced that Splitgate’s coming update will be its last major iteration as the development team is turning its attention to its next project, a shooter set in the Splitgate universe.

Splitgate will officially move out of beta on Sept. 15 when it launches its next season, which adds a new, free Battle Pass featuring an infinite number of levels with new characters, skins, and more.

1047 Games has recruited some of the industry’s top talent and continues to do so as the studio now turns its attention to a fresh, new Splitgate project that is being built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.

“After careful consideration and much deliberation the 1047 team has determined that in order to build the game that fans deserve – and to build it in a way that isn’t trying to retrofit our existing game – we are turning our attention away from iterative, smaller updates and going all-in to focus on a new game in the Splitgate universe which will present revolutionary, not just evolutionary, changes to the gameplay,” said Ian Proulx, creator of Splitgate and CEO of 1047 Games. “Splitgate will remain online and supported for our dedicated community who have been the backbone of our studio from our earliest playtests on PC. Our community means everything to us and we can’t wait to share what’s next with them.”

Weekly featured playlists in Splitgate are set to continue. Fans can also anticipate continued item drops. Though feature development has ended, Splitgate and its community remain supported, giving fans the same great experience they have come to love.

Constant movement is encouraged and rewarded as players strategically place portals to FLY, FLANK and FRAG through the air to create incredible, previously-impossible highlights.

Players start each match with the same loadout, eliminating any unfair advantages from the start. Power weapons spawn on a timer across the map, and players are encouraged to use these powerful weapons to achieve montage-worthy killstreaks.

Standard FPS controls and intuitive portal mechanics mean beginners are up and running right off the bat. However, players must constantly evolve strategies and their ability to think with portals in order to outsmart one another. The skill cap is unlimited.

Splitgate launches with cross-play for PC (Steam), Xbox Series X, Xbox One, PS5 and PS4.
