'Splatoon 3' Kicks Off First Splatfest, Which Side Will You Choose?

by Rainier on Sept. 23, 2022 @ 1:55 p.m. PDT

Splatoon 3 is the next installment in the 4 vs. 4 action shooter, leaving Inkopolis behind and heading to a new region: the Splatlands.

Enter the Splatlands, a sun-scorched desert inhabited by battle-hardened Inklings and Octolings. Splatsville, the city of chaos, is the adrenaline-fueled heart of this dusty wasteland. Even in this desolate environment, Turf War reigns supreme and battles rage in new stages located in the surrounding wilds.

Dynamic new moves help these fighters dodge attacks and cover more ground, along with a new bow-shaped weapon to sling ink, and more customization options.

In Splatoon 3, online 4-v-4 Turf War battles can create heated matches across a mix of new and returning stages, where teams of four face off to cover the most ground in their ink. Newly uncovered footage provides insight on one of these new stages, Eeltail Alley, along with a look at the stringer – a new bow-shaped weapon type that enables you to sling ink sideways and vertically.

In addition to frantic 4-v-4 multiplayer matches, Splatoon 3 also features a fresh single-player campaign and the next iteration of the co-op Salmon Run mode. In the single-player story mode, you’ll join Agent 3 in a fight against the unruly Octarians and discover the secrets of a mysterious place called Alterna and the Fuzzy Ooze. When diving into Salmon Run, you’ll ink up with teammates** to fend off waves of dangerous Salmonid bosses, some of which are colossal in size!

Splatoon 3’s first in-game Splatfest is happening on Sept. 23 (Friday) to Sept. 25 (Sunday)!

What’s a Splatfest? It’s an in-game event where every player has to choose a side to answer one of the toughest questions ever posed:

What would you bring to a deserted island? Gear, Grub or Fun? Would you rather have tools, food or something to pass the time?

What a tough research question—surely you must have flinched hearing it. Wait, you’re saying we flinched, too? It might be that desert heat getting to everyone. Anyways! Choose which team you’d like to throw ink for and dive onto the battlefield!

Splatoon and Splatoon 2 players are probably used to joining one of two sides, but yeah … Splatoon 3 has THREE sides. Talk about your triple threat!

After choosing their destiny, participants take it to Splatfest battles. The goal of a match is to ink as much of the stage as you can. The more matches your side wins, the closer you’ll be to a resounding victory. Splatfests in Splatoon 3 also include Tricolor Turf War battles, which are 4-v-2-v-2!

Splatfests only occur a handful of times a year, so we want to make sure that you’re ready to claim your turf. Let us know if you need a code for a Nintendo Switch Online membership, or anything else (except a deserted island) to get ready.
