Through accessible turn-based competitive gameplay, ongoing content releases, and deep customization, Moonbreaker will offer a variety of gameplay experiences, especially for fans of tabletop and collectible card games. Players will be able to lead their Rosters - which are made up of Captains, Crew and Assists - in fast-paced, turn-based encounters with a variety of gameplay possibilities.
Moonbreaker is set in an original sci-fi world crafted by renowned author Brandon Sanderson (Mistborn series, Stormlight Archive, Robert Jordan’s The Wheel of Time). Players will battle in various locations across the Reaches – a tiny solar system with moons held in orbit by a scarce resource called Cinder. Players will also be able to learn more about the world of Moonbreaker and its characters through upcoming audio dramas that will release closer to its Early Access launch.
Every aspect of Moonbreaker is designed to capture the feel of a physical miniatures game without the real-world limitations. With detailed, intuitive and constantly evolving painting tools, players can take their Unit customization to the next level. Custom palettes, beautiful finishes, customizable roster banners and professional digital painting tools create the perfect space for player expression. Players can paint their Units using traditional painting techniques (but with an undo button!) or marvel at beautiful paint jobs created by professional miniatures painters.
Unknown Worlds (Subnautica series) and Krafton will host two separate Steam Preview Weekend playtests on Sept. 9-11 and Sept. 16-18.
All players who sign up for the playtests will be able to experience the game for free ahead of its Steam Early Access launch on Sept. 29. For anyone who did not demo the game on-site at gamescom, these Steam Preview Weekend playtests will be the first time they can play Moonbreaker, try out Captains, build custom Rosters, paint their Units, and much more.
While the primary goal of these playtests is to stress test the servers, all participants are encouraged to stream their gameplay, upload their clips, and share their paint jobs with the world. All custom paint jobs created during the Steam Preview Weekend playtests will be saved so players have access to them if they purchase Moonbreaker when it launches into Early Access later this month.
It’s simple to participate - all players must do is the following:
- Log into Steam
- Search for “Moonbreaker”
- Click the “Request Access” button on the “Join the Moonbreaker Playtest” section
- Confirm the request
Important Playtest Details:
- Testers will be given access to the entire game, though some in-game systems and the store will be disabled
- Testers will be granted immediate access to all Season 1 Units and Captains for the playtests. Units and Captains will need to be unlocked once Moonbreaker enters Early Access. We’ve streamlined this process for the playtests due to its limited timeframe and to ensure that we can monitor initial impressions
- All progress will be wiped once the Preview Weekend playtests conclude, but player paint jobs will carry forward
- Preview access may be limited based on your location
- These tests are meant to push the servers to their limits, so interruptions and/or emergency maintenance can and will likely occur
- The dates and times above are subject to change, but we will do our best to announce any schedule changes as far in advance as possible
- Please note that localization and in-game language support is not final, nor representative of the Early Access launch experience
Moonbreaker is coming to for PC and Mac via Steam Early Access on September 29, 2022.
Moonbreaker currently includes a multiplayer mode, where you can play 1v1 online against friends in private matches or other players in public matches. It has two single-player modes – Play versus AI and Cargo Run. Unit painting and a selection of other cosmetic features are also available. There is player progression through Unit Mastery with in-game rewards. The store is functional with the ability to earn Blanks or purchase Pulsars, which are redeemable for Boosters. Finally, we have Season Tracks, which present new content to unlock and enjoy seasonally.
Early Access launch is Season One!
Moonbreaker currently includes three Captains, 10 Crew unlocked through tutorial/intro challenges, 15 Booster Boxes, and an Early Access Player Badge.
At Early Access launch, there will be an additional 28 Crew, which can be unlocked by redeeming Blanks or Pulsars for Boosters.
With each Season release, we will release more features, Units, maps, cosmetics, and more. Some of these will be unlockable, some of these will be immediately playable. What exactly will we release? We have a general idea but this is Early Access, so the most important part is making the game available and hearing your thoughts. We want to make sure we are releasing content that you’re excited about.
Moonbreaker is in development for PC (Steam), scheduled for launch in 2023/2024.
