'The Axis Unseen' Reaches Alpha Stage, Playable Demo Planned

by Rainier on Nov. 10, 2023 @ 8:38 a.m. PST

The Axis Unseen is a heavy metal open world horror game where you hunt and track monsters in a world trapped outside of time.

Hunt nightmarish monsters from ancient folklore in a mysterious open world, collecting their enhanced sense powers and discovering elemental arrows. Follow their tracks and blood trails. Pay attention to the wind direction so they can't smell you approaching. Beware, the hunter is also the hunted.

Return to the lodge or a safe space before night. This is a hostile world and they will find you and kill you.

The Axis Unseen features original music by Clifford Meyer, previously of the legendary post-metal bands ISIS and Red Sparowes. It is a unique blend of heavy metal and primitive instruments. The music dynamically adjusts to what is going on in the game. Sometimes it is atmospheric, other times it is intense metal.

Upgrade your senses with the powers of the creatures. See scent particles. Feel the warmth left behind on their tracks. See colors that no human has ever seen.

Your bow and arrow keeps you alive. Upgrade your bow or even find different arrow types such as fire, wind controlling or time distorting arrows. Experiment to see all the different ways the arrows can interact with each other, such as wind arrows making the fire spread faster.

Find out what happened to the hunters who came before you and what secrets they uncovered by inspecting their journals and drawings. Where did this world come from? How do you stop the creatures from escaping into your world?

Developer Just Purkey Games announced that The Axis Unseen has gone Alpha!

What’s that mean? It means the game is fully playable from start to finish. It has all the monsters, locations, powers, weapons, systems, etc.

Is it done? No there’s still some stuff missing like the intro, ending and super exciting stuff like menu polish, optimization and localization.

There are also all of the unknowns that come out of playtesting the game once all the pieces are there. Does it need more stuff? Are there bugs I don’t know about? Time to find out!

Everything is all on schedule and this is all accounted for. I wanted a healthy buffer between getting all the pieces in places and shipping the game.

So when does it come out?

It still comes out next year (2024) but I will give a more specific release date sometime next year. For now I will say that it is not Q1 2024 though. :)

Will there be a demo?

There will be a demo before release though! So you can count on that. In fact, I have been quietly having a bunch of different people playtest what will be the demo and polishing that up.

There are 6 different regions. Each with their own creatures, weather and locations to explore. Some regions will require special powers that you must obtain in order to survive and navigate them.

The mountain in the distance is over two miles tall. You will have to ascend that mountain and find a way to stop the creatures from getting into the real world.

As you explore these regions, you will hunt a variety of unique creatures, including some that can only be found once. Can you find and hunt them all?

You navigate using landmarks, the sun and the stars. All of the "UI" in the game exists as if it was really there in the world. There are no glowing lines telling you where to go or minimaps. You need to figure it out and explore this world and uncover its secrets.

The Axis Unseen is coming to PC (Steam and Epic Store) in 2024 with consoles being considered.
