'Timberborn' Early Access Update Adds New Ecological Hazards, In-Game Season, New Buildings And More - Trailer

by Rainier on Jan. 18, 2024 @ 7:00 a.m. PST

Timberborn is a beaver city-building game featuring ingenious animals, vertical architecture, and river control (with dams and dynamite!).

Humans are gone. Will your society of lumberpunk beavers do better?

Mankind turned Earth into a wasteland and perished, but some species survived and evolved. Choose one of the unique beaver families and see how long your colony can last!

Endure catastrophic droughts thanks to millennia of experience in water engineering. Beavers of the future redirect rivers, put up dams and dig canals with explosives. But be careful, uncontrolled flooding is as deadly as a dynamite blast!

Turn timber into sophisticated machinery, buildings, and monuments. Wood is the core resource in Timberborn, but the most advanced structures require metal. To find it, send your scavengers to the ruins of the old world.

Create a thriving beaver settlement using a modular, vertical architecture system. Here, space isn't infinite, so stack lodges and workshops on top of each other, cover hills with fields, and set up a power grid for your growing population.

Timberborn marches on towards its full release from Early Access (Steam, GOG and Epic Games Store) with its fifth major content update, introducing new ecological hazards to challenge even the most experienced players! Badwater addresses common feedback and reworks all maps to use new mechanics, while adding over 25 new buildings to the game.

“Adding Badwater deepens gameplay and answers recurring requests for more in-game seasons. With two different fluids competing for space, players must be far more creative with water physics and irrigation to avoid contamination,” added Mechanistry Communications Manager Michal Amielanczyk.

Badwater is polluted fluid waste leftover from human civilization that taints regular water sources, contaminates beavers, and kills crops. In addition to Badwater Sources that burst with waste during wet seasons, a new in-game season called Badtide enters the rotation of Droughts and Wet Seasons.

Update 5 comes with new faction-specific tools and buildings for tackling Badwater contamination–from contamination barriers to decontamination pods. The new hydroengineering tools compliment existing dams, floodgates, and pumps. With Badwater processed into the beneficial Extract, the beavers create new types of dynamite used in terraforming, supercharge their bots, and even mass produce new beavers.

New faction-specific Decorations and Attractions, like beaver dance halls, join quality-of-life updates including custom keybinds and flipping asymmetrical buildings.

Update 5 Features

  • Badwater Sources and Badtide seasons pollute waterways, contaminate beavers, and kill crops, creating a new gameplay loop and challenges for even the most-experienced player.
  • New faction-specific Buildings to deal with contamination challenges and exploit badwater; water filtration barriers and seals join existing hydro engineering tools, while new production chains allow for curing beavers and powering up bots.
  • Terraforming the landscape is no longer exclusive to bots, however, bots are now immune to Badwater contamination, making them more versatile workers. New types of dynamite allow for faster terra-forming the maps.
  • New faction-specific Decorations and Attractions, from lanterns and hammocks to exercise plazas and beaver-compatible wind tunnels.
  • Many Quality of Life additions, including custom keybinds, allowing players to flip asymmetrical buildings, and thumbnails for saves and custom maps.

Build a prosperous city with efficient production chains and beaverish nighttime activities. Follow the lives of individually simulated inhabitants throughout their day and celebrate when the next generation is born!

Satisfy the needs of your colonists to extend their lifespan and make them happier. An evolved beaver's lifestyle is not just "work, sleep and chomp on wood". Balanced diet, decorations, temples, even carousels – you take care of it all.

Unlock additional beaver families, each with unique style and traits. While one species might be okay working long shifts, another would rather focus on increasing the population – so choose what fits your playstyle.

Play on one of the included maps or create your own and share it with the community! With green hills of different height, ruins scattered in the desert, and twisting rivers you will build dams on, each map poses a different challenge.

Timberborn is coming to PC (Steam/GOG/Epic Games Store) in 2024.
