'Achilles: Survivor' Working On Addressing Demo Issues Based On Community Feedback Ahead Of Early Access Launch

by Rainier on Nov. 15, 2024 @ 8:52 a.m. PST

Achilles: Survivor is a dynamic single-player bullet heaven game where you’ll face thousands of enemies in short game sessions, build destructive structures, and develop your character to return as an even more powerful machine of destruction.

Return to the world of the action RPG Achilles: Legends Untold and slay them all, as you transition from hero to god of destruction. Expand your arsenal with a unique building mechanic that adds a new layer of strategy to the bullet heaven genre. Erect fiery defensive towers, healing structures, and summon allies to more effectively decimate hordes of enemies. Buildings not only provide protection but also strategic support that can turn the tide of battle. Featuring multiple characters, with more to be revealed and added as time goes on, each character changes the way you play, introducing unique combat abilities to fight against countless waves of enemies. Prepare your build for a powerful boss encounter, set up your structures, and unleash your god-like power to be the last one standing. Return from each expedition with treasures that help you become even stronger or unlock new content, including abilities and maps.

Various locations from the mythical story of Achilles make its appearance here, such as Troy, Greece, and the kingdom of Tartarus, all rendered in the visual style that players loved in Achilles: Legends Untold. Discover the secrets and dangers of these mystical realms, battling mythological monsters and acquiring legendary weapons and artifacts. Traverse picturesque locations, from mountain passes to the deepest dungeons, and face the challenges that each new adventure brings.

Following the end of the Trojan War, Hades, the god of death, resurrected Achilles to use him in his plots against the other gods. Once his plans came to fruition, Hades claimed Achilles' soul and cast him into Tartarus—the underworld of the dead. Yet, Achilles managed to break free, liberating the souls of many other beings, known as survivors, in the process—including those who had fallen by his own hand. Infuriated by this act of defiance, Hades unleashed legions of creatures and allies to hunt down the escapees, swearing to pursue them until the last one was captured. Step into the shoes of Achilles or one of the many survivors freed from Tartarus and engage in a desperate struggle with high stakes.

Greetings Survivor!

The team behind the upcoming Bullet Heaven title Achilles: Survivor has been hard at work implementing feedback from their recent Steam Next fest demo!

We've been closely following your feedback, and we want to take a moment to share our thoughts and plans. Your insights are incredibly valuable in helping us improve the game, and we're excited to address some of the most common issues you've raised.

We've divided the feedback into three main categories:

  • Areas We Are Actively Working To Improve
  • Planned Improvements Based on Feedback
  • Features and Mechanics That Are Intended as Is

Areas We Are Actively Working To Improve

Character Movement and Responsiveness

We've noted your concerns about slow or "floaty" character movement and inconsistent attack speed for certain characters. This is definitely an area we’re working on to make the gameplay feel more responsive and enjoyable.

Game Mechanics and Balance

Balancing the improvements, powers, and progression system is a top priority. We recognize the need for smoother progression and more balanced skills so that players can build powerful and exciting character builds.

Construction and Building System

We’re improving clarity around the construction system. Issues like getting stuck in the construction menu, loot drops inside buildings, and missing functionality in structures are all being addressed.

User Interface and Upgrade Feedback

We understand that sometimes it’s unclear how upgrades impact gameplay. We’re enhancing tooltips and status effects to improve readability and understanding of the game across all aspects. This will make it easier to see what each upgrade does and how it affects your abilities.

Tutorial and New Player Experience

Many of you have mentioned a lack of guidance on gameplay basics. We’re planning to introduce a tutorial and more accessible information on powers, improvements, and transformations to help new players get started.

Random Map Generation

The map layouts are randomly generated to keep each run fresh, adding an extra layer of challenge and replayability to the experience. Additionally, some maps will have fixed layouts, providing a more structured gameplay experience.

Planned Improvements Based on Feedback

UI Adjustments

Enhancing the user interface is one of our top priorities. We're focusing on making every piece of information in Achilles: Survivor easily accessible and clear. Our goal is to ensure that players have a complete understanding of how various elements influence the gameplay. This will allow you to build your character more effectively and maintain better control over the flow of the game. Expect updates to the UI that will make the experience both clearer and more functional, so you can focus on crafting the perfect strategy!

Forge and Mine Clarity

The Forge and Mine features will be more intuitive, and their impact on gameplay will be more transparent to players.

Powers Customization and Rerolling

We’ve heard your feedback on the need for more control over powers selection, and we’re planning to add a reroll option. This will give you more flexibility in customizing your builds.

Features and Mechanics That Are Intended as Is

Lack of Manual Aiming

While we appreciate the suggestions for manual aiming, this was a deliberate design choice to keep controls accessible and straightforward. We believe that auto-targeting keeps the gameplay fast-paced and aligns with the overall game design.

Positive Feedback and Closing Thoughts

Thank you for the positive comments on our graphics, building system, and core gameplay mechanics! We’re thrilled that many of you are enjoying these aspects, and we’ll continue working to make your experience even better. Your feedback drives us to create a game that resonates with players and is as enjoyable as possible.

Thank you for your continued support, and keep the feedback coming!
