'Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream' Uses Unreal Engine 5's MetaHuman Technology For Cinematics, Shows Off Extended Gameplay - Trailer

by Rainier on Dec. 13, 2024 @ 12:12 p.m. PST

In Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream, experience an isometric, narrative-driven stealth game and join Hanna's adventure in the namesake vibrant city.

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream is a character-driven single-player game set in the titular Eriksholm — a fictitious city in a fictitious world greatly influenced by a Nordic-inspired, early 1900s aesthetic. It tells the tale of three protagonists united by fire in their hearts to defy their oppressors. The reveal trailer introduces protagonist Hanna, an adolescent orphan on a quest to find her brother Herman. What follows is a sequence of events that transforms Hanna into a reluctant hero, inspiring her and her friends to rise from the gutters of Eriksholm to become symbols of change.

From a top-down 3D perspective, players will embody Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream's three playable protagonists and navigate through the densely detailed streets and dreary underground of the city of Eriksholm, utilizing each character's unique skills, tools, and weapons to overcome obstacles and solve puzzles. Players can freely move the in-game camera to survey the environment, plan their next step, and execute it with perfect timing. Even an overheard dialogue, such as context-sensitive guard chatter, could prove meaningful in finding the best strategic move to progress undetected, as challenges may have multiple solutions.

Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream cleverly marries the art of storytelling, stealth, and strategy-based gameplay mechanics to treat players to a riveting adventure with high-production-value visuals, motion-captured performances, and engaging real-time gameplay. In this isometric, narrative-driven stealth game, join Hanna's adventure in the vibrant city of Eriksholm. The mysterious disappearance of her brother, Herman, ignites a chain of catastrophic events that will forever change their lives and the fate of the entire city.

Developer River End Games and publisher Nordcurrent Labs showcased a new extended gameplay trailer featuring a runtime twice as long as the version that premiered previously.

In the extended gameplay trailer, Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream’s engaging stealth mechanics and incredibly realized world are fully displayed. Viewers can take in the richly crafted cityscape of the titular city of Eriksholm and begin to discover how protagonists Hanna, Alva, and Sebastian can uniquely interact with their environments and evade (or incapacitate) those who mean them (and the fellow downtrodden citizens of Eriksholm) harm.

In addition to the release of the extended gameplay trailer, the latest episode of Inside Unreal delves into Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream’s use of Unreal Engine 5’s MetaHuman technology to propel the game’s storytelling and its actors’ performances to new heights. In Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream, major story events are presented to players as cinematic, in-engine cutscenes featuring highly detailed characters. With just 15 developers, River End Games has achieved a production quality that rivals top-tier AAA studios, blending cutting-edge technology with masterful storytelling in Eriksholm: The Stolen Dream, proving that passion and talent know no bounds.
