Skydance Games once again takes VR immersion, action and exploration to the next level in Behemoth.
In Behemoth, players will explore the plague-ravished wasteland of a once glorious empire, where its inhabitants are driven mad and cities have fallen to ruin. In glorious VR fashion, players’ bodies and minds will be tested as they combat towering colossal giants called Behemoths. Raw strength won’t be enough, however, as they must use various tools in their arsenal to defeat these gigantic creatures and the other nightmarish enemies that scour this brutal world in their quest for a possible cure.
Skydance Games wanted to maintain the gritty survivalism that is present in its Walking Dead titles – the environment is brutal and unforgiving, and there is no one to rely on but yourself. Mixed in with these elements, the developers added a dash of folk horror, with themes of sacrifice and cruelty within the natural world, secrets of the past, and glimpses of darker realities. In Behemoth, the dread of the unknown is always with you.
The tone of the story is bleak. From the outset, you are thrust into a world where all hope is lost, you will face nigh-invulnerable monstrosities and will need to rely on their own cleverness to defeat them. As the story progresses, the glimpse of hope obtained will always be tempered by the serious challenges ahead.
The world of Behemoth will not only test your combat and survival skills, but the strength of your will. The true depths of its horrors will take dedication to unearth and by then, it may be too late.
“Skydance’s Behemoth really builds on the melee combat and hand-based physics from The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners,” said Shawn Kittelsen, Vice President of Creative. “Knowing players want to be fully immersed, we’ve married these advanced mechanics with a storytelling engine that drives the player’s progression through the Forsaken Lands on their way to fight mountains.”
Everyone and everything is an enemy in Skydance’s Behemoth. Players will enter the Forsaken Lands, a kingdom reduced to rubble by an ancient curse, to fell the Behemoths. These gigantic monsters spread ruin throughout the land. Players will need to slay all who stand in their way to kill the unkillable and restore life to the once-great civilization.
As part of today’s announcement, the studio also unveiled the new name of its gaming division, Skydance Games. The Skydance Games umbrella will encompass each of the company’s two gaming studios—one led by Dan Prigg (Skydance’s Behemoth, The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners) and the other led by Amy Hennig and Julian Beak (Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra, Untitled Lucasfilm Game)—as well as its games publishing, interactive licensing and transmedia storytelling teams. Skydance Games develops rich narratives and captivating worlds for original and IP-based titles for console, VR, PC and mobile.
The boss battles against the behemoths have to be experienced. Facing monolithic enemies is another place where we felt we could take the familiar concept of the boss battle, and surprise the player, showing them the difference between playing a game and stepping into one. In headset, the beasts are terrifying, towering and the challenge they present is significant. Tracking one down will push players to their limits. Complex traversal puzzles, harsh landscapes littered with desperate savages and the horrific remnants of an ancient disease will all stand in your way as you track down the Behemoths
Key Features:
- A Dangerous New World: The Forsaken Lands are an unprecedently unforgiving yet beautiful world teeming with secrets to uncover and an abundance of enemies to conquer.
- Incredibly Responsive VR Physics: Equipped with a grappling hook, players will climb, zip and reel to overcome barriers that hinder their path, explore nooks and crannies to claim hard-to-reach items, and grasp onto unsuspecting foes to gain the upper hand in combat.
- Brutally Realistic Combat: Hunt down Behemoths through any means possible, including a highly interactive combat system that allows players to hack and slash enemies however they see fit. Crack skulls, drive swords through hearts and sever the bodies of those who stand in the way.
Behemoth will launch on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, PS VR2 and PCVR in Fall 2024.
