The story starts three years before the events of the first game and the adventures of De Sardet.
In GreedFall II, you play a native from a small lakeside village on Teer Fradee, an island permeated with its own special kind of magic, and with unknown creatures dwelling in the wild. Mev, the high priestess of Teer Fradee, sends you on a mission to perform an initiation ritual to become a Doneigad, a sage entrusted with protecting your people and its lands. This is a crucial task, since for several years your island has suffered increasing colonisation by foreign powers indifferent to their devastating impact on the natural environment.
To protect your people and succeed in your mission, you have a range of choices according to the situations you encounter, since your decisions will affect how your adventure unfolds. Hence your choices in the dialogues will directly influence your relationships with the other characters, and your reputation with the other factions. Furthermore, the talents that you opt to develop, such as Survival, Diplomacy or Stealth, affect how you can experience certain events.
However you will sometimes need to use force, and confrontations are an integral part of your adventure. This new trailer introduces some of the game’s combat system mechanics, which are designed to provide a greater strategic dimension, especially thanks to the option of controlling your companions, and a tactical pause system enabling you to keep perfect control of any situation.
Experience the unique world of GreedFall again by exploring the old continent! Travel across new landscapes, from Olima – the city of stars of the Bridge Alliance – to the shores of Uxantis, and uncover the secrets of these ancient lands. Meet all the factions that share control over these nations and navigate the treacherous waters of their schemes and conspiracies.
Greedfall II developer Spiders addresses several topics dear to the community, including the gameplay and combat system, the Early Access format and future communications.
During Greedfall II's first community livestream, we mentioned that we wanted to be more generous with content. We plan to add a larger variety of regions and zones to explore in the game, more companions to meet and romance, and a wider range of quests, as well as more options to tackle them.
Greedfall II will offer players a variety of new skills and talents to choose from and the combat system will continually evolve to accentuate the game’s strategic perspective. As opposed to the first opus, the tactical pause feature will be pushed further to enable full control of your companions, and the orders you give them, allowing you to experience a more authentic sense of togetherness as a group of adventurers.
That said, we have acknowledged that part of the community has been surprised by the changes to the gameplay, particularly for combat, which was also a crucial topic during the playtest we organized in April.
Currently, we still see the combat as a ‘work in progress’. We understand that the changes for combat might feel disappointing for some people or overwhelming for others. While we do not intend to switch back to the same combat style as the first Greedfall, we do intend to make combat gameplay one of the main pillars of the early access, and a subject on which we will be particularly alert and attentive.
We are well aware that we will need your feedback if we are to make this new combat gameplay the most satisfying experience possible and not a blocking factor to your enjoyment of the game. We want the game experience to be pleasant, fun and accessible for everyone – be it for the seasoned tactical RPG players, newcomers to the genre, or those who simply wish to enjoy other aspects of the game that are more important to them, such as exploring the world, following the story, etc.
Additions such as difficulty sliders, choice of character outline colours, visual cues, and numerous other QoL (Quality of Life) options are planned, though not all these features will be available at the launch of the early access. We want to take the time to gather your feedback beforehand and make sure that they are well adapted, as well as possibly adding other options in the future.
Aside from combat and accessibility, we plan to add many more ways to immerse yourself in the vast world of Greedfall during the early access.
You will be navigating the new regions and its many secrets as the story unfolds. Greedfall is first and foremost a narrative RPG, and while you will have to face and fight opponents throughout your journey, there are plenty of instances where you will be able to choose other options too. Whether using your diplomatic or investigative skills, most situations will require you to get to know the characters and understand the world around you.
We cannot wait for you to explore and marvel at the unique and distinctive landscapes of Gacane, get to know the people and embark on a story that you can write as your own.
Overall, the early access will be a way for us to add, improve and balance all the game content, and we are excited to be able to do it all with you, so that you can discover everything that the universe of GreedFall has to offer.
On a side note, we know you are waiting for a release date for the early access, and we too are eager for you to know. Do not worry, we plan to make an official announcement very soon. We are also preparing another community livestream to reveal the content and details of the early access road map, and during which you will be able to ask our team your questions. There might also be a few surprises along the way, so you can look forward to it!
Until then, cheers and happy gaming!
