Welcome to the fantastical world of Pax Dei.
Inspired by the mythologies of the medieval era, Pax Dei aims to deliver an MMO experience that returns to the roots of the genre with a player-driven and community-focused design, updated and brought into the modern age in stunning visuals created using the Unreal Engine 5.
Pax Dei invites players of all types to define their own goals and challenges. Designed to maximize player interactions and allow different play styles to complement each other, Pax Dei opens up a vast, mysterious, and beautiful playground that players can fill with their own stories.
In the relative safety of the Heartlands, players will find the perfect plot to raise their home. Here, life is peaceful, and clans can develop and prosper. Players must work together to grow their villages, engaging with extensive character customization and modular house-building systems. Everything in Pax Dei is produced by human labor and skill, and every player has a role to play and a contribution to make.
Leaving the safety of home to explore the Wilderness, players will encounter legendary creatures, ancient mysteries, and increasingly difficult challenges. Here, they can also choose to fight other players to assert dominance for their clan. The glory, bounty, and secrets they bring back more than justify the risks. But as players soon discover, the further they journey from home, the stranger and more dangerous things become.
Mainframe Industries, along with their co-publishing partners at New Tales, announced that Pax Dei will enter Early Access on June 18, 2024, and will remain so for at least a year.
Over 100,000 players took part in the latest Alpha test, aimed at testing the recent gameplay additions, along with the server infrastructure, and over 1.6M hours have been watched on stream since the reveal.
The development of Pax Dei has now reached a stage where it requires a permanently live game and an active player base to progress further.
“Pax Dei is a game about people interacting with each other - the war and peace they will make, the social structures that will emerge. The game can’t be built without players,” said Reynir Hardarson, Game Director and co-founder at Mainframe Industries. “We want to gather a community of people willing to work very closely with the development team. Early Access means that you are on the floor with us.”
While the game is still in Alpha and heavily in development, the foundations of Pax Dei are already in place, with a peaceful gameplay loop (gathering resources, crafting, building) inviting players to claim a home in a large, shared & persistent open world; and an adventure gameplay loop, with large areas to explore (PvE) and compete over (PvP).
Pax Dei is expected to remain in Early Access for at least a year, during which the game will expand in all directions, based on the reaction and feedback from the players. The game is still in heavy development. Major changes will occasionally require wiping the game and starting over. The first such update will be adding to the third core pillar of the game: the social gameplay loop, by introducing features such as markets and gold economy.
“We’ve been humbled and are deeply thankful for the interest and passion our project has received already,” said Thor Gunnarsson, CEO and co-founder at Mainframe Industries. “Today, we’re inviting players to embark with us on the next step of the journey.”
Pax Dei Early Access is available for pre-purchase starting today on playpaxdei.com and will be playable on PC, via Steam or the game’s dedicated launcher. Early Access players will benefit from exclusive rewards, depending on the Founder’s Pack they opt for.
Skinning a basilisk, choosing between war and peace, picking flowers: it all matters. In a fully player-driven world, all play styles connect and complement each other. Pax Dei welcomes players of every type to join the community and be part of the stories about to take shape.
Mainframe has fully leveraged ground-breaking advances in Unreal Engine 5, which has enabled the world to come alive in an expansive simulation teeming with life and stunning detail. The next generation Lumen and Nanite systems allow players to see vistas spanning miles with real explorable distant mountains, while being able to examine the tiniest details of objects in the world. Mainframe has augmented the engine with MMO-specific capabilities, enabling a persistent, seamless world that players can explore at a scale supporting thousands of other players.
Pax Dei is in development for PC (Steam) and cloud gaming platforms to become playable on any screen.
