'NBA 2K25' Unveils Major Updates Coming to MyTEAM Including New Game Modes, Rep System And More - Trailer

by Rainier on Aug. 21, 2024 @ 4:45 p.m. PDT

NBA 2K25 is the next installment of the premier NBA video game basketball simulation series, delivering enhanced authenticity and realism powered by ProPLAYTM technology.

2K unveiled that five-time NBA All-Star Boston Celtics Forward and reigning NBA Champion Jayson Tatum will be the cover athlete for the NBA 2K25 Standard Edition.

Tatum will be featured alongside the back-to-back WNBA Champion, two-time WNBA MVP and six-time WNBA All-Star Las Vegas Aces Forward, A’ja Wilson as dual cover athletes for the NBA 2K25 All-Star Edition. Wilson will also grace the cover of the NBA 2K25 WNBA Edition, a GameStop Exclusive Physical Edition available in the US and Canada.

The 2024 Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame Inductee, eight-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA Team and NBA dunk contest legend, Vince Carter, will be featured on the cover of the NBA 2K25 Hall of Fame Edition.

2K shared an in-depth look at all the new features and upgrades coming to MyTEAM in NBA 2K25.

NBA 2K25 introduces some of the biggest upgrades in MyTEAM history including the addition of four new game modes (Triple Threat Park, Breakout, Showdown, and King of the Court), a new year-long MyTEAM REP system with perks and rewards throughout the mode, and dozens of quality of life updates.

The return of a major feature also makes its way to MyTEAM with the Auction House coming back by popular demand. MyTEAM in NBA 2K25 is the ultimate combination of new experiences and fan feedback.

Prove you’re the best of the best in MyTEAM.

NBA 2K25 challenges you to prove you’re the best of the best in the popular card-collecting mode, MyTEAM. NBA 2K25 adds four new game modes, a new year-long MyTEAM REP system with perks and rewards throughout the mode, dozens of quality of life updates, and the return of a major feature. MyTEAM in NBA 2K25 is the ultimate combination of new experiences and fan feedback. This year, there’s truly something for everyone, with intuitive functions to make getting in the game streamlined and easy.

THE AUCTION HOUSE IS BACK

The Auction House returns in NBA 2K25 MyTEAM where you can auction off or acquire cards using MyTEAM Points (MTP) to enhance your Collection! New in NBA 2K25 the Auction House menu has been consolidated into a one-stop shop for searching, buying, and selling – no more exiting back to the MyTEAM menus to retrieve your completed Auctions or check on your Bids. You can also search for a selected card directly from your My Auctions menu, so you can easily check MTP prices before listing your card for sale. Need more space in your My Auctions menu? Earning more MyTEAM REP will increase your My Auctions capacity allowing you to get the most out of the Auction House.

To ensure a level playing field, the returning Auction House has a zero-tolerance policy on activity detrimental to the health of the mode. All transactions will go through a verification process to make sure the Auction House stays fun and fair for everyone in the community. The love for the MyTEAM Auction House is clear and we are excited for its return!

TRIPLE THREAT PARK

Only available on New Gen, NBA 2K25 introduces one of the biggest upgrades to MyTEAM in its history—Triple Threat Park! Meet new friends face-to-face to team-up with or play against in the new home for Triple Threat Online and Triple Threat Online: Co-Op multiplayer games. Triple Threat Park will be accessible on PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC from within the MyTEAM menus or from The City. For the first time, you will take the court in Park gameplay with NBA Players while your MyPLAYERs cheer from the sidelines.

Triple Threat Park is a faithful remaster of NBA 2K16's Rivet City Championship MyPARK, including details down to the iconic chain nets and glass walkways—this is one of the most iconic MyPARKs in NBA 2K history! Like the original Rivet City rooftop, there are a total of nine courts. Four of these courts are for 2-player 3v3 games where each person controls a 3 Player Card lineup. The other five courts are for 6-player 3v3 Co-Op games where each person controls 1 Player Card, with two of these courts designated as “No Squad” courts.

You can earn rewards in Triple Threat Park every day just by getting a win or going on win streaks, with even more rewards available from Challenges and Limited Time Events!

Exploring Triple Threat Park

Show off your MyTEAM REP progress, your ranking from the last King of the Court event, your current Showdown tier, as well as your first choice Player Card on your customized Player Panel as you walk around Triple Threat Park as your MyPLAYER.

Once you approach a court's open Got Next spot, your MyPLAYER will walk onto the court and present your MyTEAM cards, which then reveal the NBA players you will be controlling.

Express your style with your MyPLAYER across both MyCAREER & MyTEAM as apparel and customizations earned through Season rewards now benefit Triple Threat Park as well. There is also a pop-up shop within Triple Threat Park where you can upgrade your swag and pick up new MyTEAM cards from the Pack Market.

Showcase Spot

A special feature in Triple Threat Park is the Showcase Spot. If you step onto the Showcase Spot, you will open packs on a massive billboard for everyone to see. If you obtain a high-powered Player Card, that player will make a grand entrance complete with a fireworks display, visible to the entire Triple Threat Park.

As an added bonus, the first time you use the Showcase Spot each day you’ll unlock 30 minutes of 2XREP for MyTEAM REP!

When you open packs through the pop-up shop or the MyTEAM store, the cards you obtain may be displayed live above your MyPLAYER. You can also show off your earned Player Cards by accessing your Unopened Packs menu from anywhere in Triple Threat Park. Once you open an award pack with a high level Player Card, the card art will appear over your MyPLAYER's head!

BREAKOUT

Breakout is a new mode that houses the revamped single player experience in NBA 2K25 MyTEAM. After selecting a starting difficulty, you will begin in the middle of Breakout City, surrounded by various arenas representing game modes, eras, and opponents that you choose to compete against.

Your goal is to break out of the game board and earn your reward! Choose your direction to move and compete in a quick Triple Threat 3v3, Clutch Time 5v5, or a shortened 13-card Full Lineup game. Before starting a game, you can preview the game types and opponents. Discover the rewards available on the outer rim of the game board by unlocking the neighboring spot.

As you explore each board, you'll play against a range of opponents, including current NBA teams, historic teams in Era-themed games in the 1980s / 1990s / 2000s / 2010s, All-Time teams, and theme teams of new collections released throughout the year.

Wins earn Prize Points and progress in that direction on the board. In addition, each game has single-game Objectives to earn extra Prize Points. These Prize Points are needed to unlock the reward spaces on the board, and the spaces with the best rewards require more Prize Points before you can play those games. Choose your opponents and games wisely, because if you lose 3 times in a run you will need to start over.

As you move farther away from the center spot, the difficulty level goes up. Higher difficulties give more Objectives, which can shorten the number of games between you and your reward. Once you reach the outer edge, you will face off against a final gatekeeper team. These gatekeepers are the final run-ending opponents that stand between you and the reward you selected.

With the addition of Breakout, the standalone Triple Threat and Clutch Time modes have been retired and merged into this brand new, comprehensive experience. However, within Breakout, you can choose to play on boards that exclusively contain Triple Threat or Clutch Time games. Both Triple Threat and Clutch Time games are now played in the ‘House of Clutch’ arena, with Triple Threat games still using a smaller 3v3 court, but with fans behind the court-surrounding barriers and away from the action.

SHOWDOWN

Showdown is a new head-to-head multiplayer mode in NBA 2K25 that draws inspiration from the competitive modes of previous MyTEAM years and will be replacing Unlimited.

Games are played with 13-card Full Lineups and 4-minute quarters. The core of this mode is a progression system across 15 tiers, where the primary goal is to win and get promoted. You will start at Tier 15 and work your way up to Tier 1 as you stack up wins. As an extra incentive, if you go on a win streak you will earn extra progression up the ladder. Losses will count against you, but there are checkpoints built into each Tier to protect your progress. Once you are promoted to a higher Tier, you cannot drop down a Tier during a Season.

Every Friday at 8 AM Pacific Time, if you have gotten a few wins in the last week, you will be able to choose a reward group based on the tier you are currently in. Getting even more wins each week will upgrade these reward selections. There are also rewards that are refreshed each Season that can be earned immediately as you reach those milestones. At the end of each 6-week Season, you will drop a number of tiers based on where you ended the Season, offering a fresh challenge the next Season without starting from scratch.

Showdown features an improved leaderboard that only considers games played between Tier 1 players. This will ensure the leaderboard accurately represents the best players in Showdown. Tiers also come into play for matchmaking, which will prioritize matching you up with opponents at a similar tier as you.

After you get a target amount of Showdown wins each week, you will qualify for our new competitive mode, King of the Court.

KING OF THE COURT

King of the Court is an exclusive event held every Saturday from 10 AM to 2 PM Pacific Time, starting on September 14. To qualify, you must meet certain qualification thresholds in either the new Showdown or Triple Threat Park modes during the preceding week, or earn automatic qualification by rising up the MyTEAM REP tiers.

After each King of the Court game, you will earn a Game Score based on your performance. If you lose 3 games, your time in that Saturday's King of the Court will be over.

Your final Game Score each Saturday will be ranked amongst all competitors in groups representing the Top 50%, Top 10%, Top 1%, and the ultimate #1 King of the Court. The group you finish in determines which tiers of rewards you receive. These rewards are some of the best available in MyTEAM and are refreshed weekly, including packs, MyTEAM-exclusive Indicator and Perfect Release Cards, and more including 1 Million VC for the King of the Court! Your accomplishments in the most recent King of the Court will also be proudly displayed on your MyPLAYER Player Panel while in Triple Threat Park.

This is where the best of the best in MyTEAM will compete!

CHALLENGES

NBA 2K25’s MyTEAM combines Agendas and Challenges together into the new Challenges menu. This is your single stop for most of the live content updates that MyTEAM receives multiple times each week. Starting from the HOME tab, you will see three selected Challenges with rewards and your progress. At any given time, these will feature quick Challenges that can be completed in a single game, ones that may take a few games to complete, and Challenge Groups with greater rewards.

It has never been easier to quickly get into a game in MyTEAM, as every mode can now use an Autofill lineup which automatically generates a lineup based on your collection. Typically these will use your best Player Cards available, but if a Challenge requires completing a specific stat like making threes or getting rebounds, this Autofill will adjust to ensure you have the best lineup for that Challenge.

These Challenges can link you directly to any valid MyTEAM mode to try and complete them in, or, you can select from a quick Pick-Up Triple Threat, Clutch Time, or Full Lineup game. Great if you just want to jump into a game and grind out a single Challenge without affecting your mode progress.

MyTEAM REP

NBA 2K25 introduces a REP system to MyTEAM. REP serves as a year-long measure of success and does not reset like the 40 Levels in each Season.

There are 11 levels of MyTEAM REP Rewards, represented by the familiar MyTEAM Gem Colors, Bronze through Dark Matter. The MyTEAM REP menu also features a leaderboard of the Top Ten REP Players, designated with Invincible Logos, with No. 1 overall receiving the G.O.A.T. Logo. These REP Logos, regardless if you are in the Top Ten or making progress at your own pace, will appear beside you throughout MyTEAM.

You'll earn REP by completing games and Challenges, and there will be 2XREP events to give you a boost. You'll feel the progression of your team as you rise up the ranks in your MyTEAM journey this year. Each time you REP up, you will unlock new rewards, including access to the Auction House, expanded My Auctions capacity to hold more cards, returning rewards like the Fire Ball and MyTEAM Coliseum, regularly released free packs in the Pack Market, and an exclusive G.O.A.T. Jayson Tatum Player Card by reaching the Dark Matter tier! You can even earn automatic access to weekend King of the Court events without needing to qualify each week.

At the end of July, those who are ranked in the MyTEAM REP Top 10 as Invincible or G.O.A.T. level players will receive the ultimate rewards, related to NBA 2K26's MyTEAM mode. We will share more information on this later in the year!

GETTING STARTED

When you first enter MyTEAM, you’ll see a brand new tutorial designed to teach you not only the basics of MyTEAM but, if you need it, also the basics of basketball and NBA 2K gameplay.

First, you'll open your Starter Kit containing cards from your favorite NBA team and customize your team's name and city. You’ll get two Option Packs filled with All-NBA caliber Free Agent player cards included with each Starter Kit, no matter which team you select. Choose two Diamond-level Free Agent Current Players which will remain with your team for an extended 25 games. Then, choose an All-Time NBA legend Free Agent player, rated as a Pink Diamond, which will play 10 games with your MyTEAM before it expires.

You will then be asked what your experience with NBA 2K MyTEAM is. If you’re new to NBA 2K and playing on New Gen, you’ll be taken to the new Learn 2K tutorial to get started. If you’re familiar with NBA 2K but new to MyTEAM, you'll be guided through an introduction of the various MyTEAM modes, features, and lineup management, followed by Welcome to MyTEAM challenges. Maybe you already know what you're doing—you can choose to skip these introductions and get right into the action.

Even if you are an experienced MyTEAM player, there are some exclusive rewards including both Free Agent and Reward Player Cards to get you started, including the historic Trail Blazer pairing of Damian Lillard and LaMarcus Aldridge which have a Dynamic Duo boost. Completing this mode tour will also reward you with an Option Pack where you can pick one of five Evolution players that can upgrade from Emerald, to Sapphire, to Ruby. All of these challenges will be available for you to complete on your own, if you decide to skip the tutorial.

NEW MENUS AND UI

All of these changes and improvements in NBA 2K25 MyTEAM bring along new, streamlined menus.

When you start your MyTEAM journey, you'll find yourself on the HOME tab. Jump right in to Challenges and earn rewards right from the HOME tab. You can check on your Season & MyTEAM REP progress, and view active Limited Time Events here as well. If you skipped the introductions when first entering MyTEAM or want to revisit them, the Training Hub is where you can Replay Tutorials, watch Tips & Tricks videos, jump into Freestyle shootaround, or for the first time in MyTEAM, Practice Plays or run a Scrimmage with your MyTEAM lineup!

Single Player and Multiplayer game modes have been streamlined into a single PLAY tab. On PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC you can dive into MyTEAM’s featured modes like Triple Threat Park, Breakout, Showdown, or King of the Court. You can also jump into more casual Salary Cap games, play in the latest Domination tiers, send players on Exhibition missions for rewards, or Play With Friends in Triple Threat or Showdown games.

The MARKET tab takes you to the Pack Market, Auction House, or The Exchange which features more flexible requirements and repeatable exchanges. This tab is also where you can enter Locker Codes.

Finally, the MANAGE tab is where you can access Lineups Management, My Collection, Edit Player, redeem 2XP Coins, and the MT Shoe Lab. New to NBA 2K25, you can also use the Customize HUD menu in the OPTIONS tab to fully adjust how your gameplay indicators, stamina bars, and more look in MyTEAM. You will be able to collect Indicator and Perfect Release Animation Cards to further customize what shows beneath your players’ feet and how you show off when getting a green shot in-game!

AND SO MUCH MORE

Here are some more tidbits about what to expect in NBA 2K25:

Lineups Management & Coaching

  • Legend Badges, the new tier of Badges above Hall of Fame, are available in MyTEAM. Similar to Hall of Fame badges, Legend Badges skip the Bronze → Silver → Gold progression typically required when adding badge cards to players.
  • Shoe Boost Cards have been replaced with Takeover Cards. Customize your Shoe Cards with any of your owned Takeover Cards and equip Shoes on each Player Card to customize which Takeover and Takeover Abilities it has access to.
  • Some Coach Cards may now boost both your lineup's Badges and attribute ratings. Look for more powerful options throughout the year!
  • Active Coach Boosts are now more obvious with an indicator that appears next to your players’ feet.
  • Coach Settings now support customizing your Offensive Settings and your situational On-The-Fly Lineups (Bench, Tall, Quick, Defense, Three Point, Free Throw, and Custom), and setting your favorite plays.
  • Some Free Agent limited-use Player Cards now have a variety of game limits, beyond just 5 games.
  • You can now update all of your lineups’ uniforms, courts, arenas, or logos by using “Apply to All Lineups” from the Franchise tab.
  • A new filter has been added when replacing cards in a lineup showing the most recently added cards in your Collection.
Card Collecting
  • Collector Challenges now primarily count cards that are “Locked In.” New in NBA 2K25, you can choose to lock in Player Cards individually, including ones that do not have a collection complete reward like Season Rewards to boost your collector count higher.
  • The Exchange has received an overhaul allowing for more flexibility when adding Player Cards, more categories to easily find the Exchanges you are looking for, and a more visual menu to help identify the cards needed.
  • When you unlock Ascension picks, you can now select multiple picks on the board and flip them all at the same time, rather than one by one.
  • Most single-card Award Packs will now automatically open when they are rewarded, rather than filling up your Unopened Packs menu with dozens of packs each Season. For the packs that do go to Unopened Packs, a new fast-open option will quickly open the most recent packs to your collection.
  • Event Cards may now include a description of what they are for, which is helpful in seek-and-collect events with Collection Rewards!

There are so many ways to be the best in MyTEAM in NBA 2K25. Play your way and level up your MyTEAM REP, compete against the MyTEAM community in Showdown and King of the Court, show off in the new Triple Threat Park, or earn exclusive rewards through Breakout. Acquire and Sell cards for MyTEAM Points on the returning Auction House, use the new Challenges menu to always find what’s next, and build the team of your dreams in MyTEAM.

With NBA 2K25, players will forge a dynasty in MyCAREER, compete in new MyTEAM modes, and, for those on New-Gen platforms, players will also experience an added sixth era in MyNBA, a more compact and interactive City, along with the chance to cement their G.O.A.T. status in The W. In addition to new updates in MyCAREER and MyTEAM, players on Current-Gen will experience an all new Neighborhood metropolis to explore where they will complete quests, earn rewards and eclipse their rivals.

The New-Gen version of NBA 2K25 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and now supported on PC. Powered by enhanced ProPLAYTM technology, New-Gen NBA 2K25 delivers the franchise’s most true-to-life basketball experience yet, offering players the ultimate control in how they dominate the competition. Players on PC with compatible specs will now benefit from the enhanced realism of ProPLAYTM technology, and the ability to compete in modes such as MyNBA, The W and in The City. Crossplay will only be available on New-Gen consoles.

“In a year that showcases competition at the highest level - and in a play style that is uniquely one’s own - we’re thrilled to share Jayson, A’ja and Vince as the NBA 2K25 cover athletes” said Greg Thomas, President at Visual Concepts. “The development team has delivered another innovative experience for basketball lovers, setting up NBA 2K25 to be the next icon in this long-standing dynasty.”
