'Demonschool' Needs More Time, Delayed Until Q1 2025

In Demonschool, students are invited to a "prestigious" university on a colorful island, where exciting sports clubs, a world-class education, and the impending doom of a demonic apocalypse await!

In Demonschool, students are invited to a colorful island and its "prestigious" university, where exciting sports clubs, a world-class education, and the impending doom of a demonic apocalypse await! The school-life tactics RPG is reminiscent of Persona and Shin Megami Tensei.

For freshman Faye, the last living heir to a long-forgotten family of demon hunters, school is nothing like it looks on the brochures. While her peers get to flirt through Freud and dabble in Dante, Faye and her new band of misfit friends get shunted toward supernatural investigations. A woman who lost her face? A summoning ritual in the cemetery? Mailer Daemons!? The underworld inches ever closer to the world of humanity ... college is hell!

Demonschool is a streamlined tactics game where movement equals action, decisions can be rewound, and speedy mechanics remove the genre's traditional cruft. Plan each student's moves at your leisure, then hit the action button and watch it all play out in devastating, character-based combos. Destin, a hot-blooded fighter, can knock foes forward into Namako's debuffing dash, and damage dealers like Faye benefit from shrine keeper Knute's helpful wards. Adjust strategies for monolithic bosses and unusual battlefields, bucking genre conventions. Unleash tide-turning special moves to keep the demons at bay — if they reach the back line, the human world is lost.

Each surreal encounter brings Faye and friends closer to a dark conspiracy beyond their imagining, but thankfully, student life isn't all bloodstained butterflies and dolls from hell. Live out an entire school semester, choosing what to study, who to befriend, and how much trust to share. Plan your team's class schedule to develop their skills and acquire over a dozen new allies through myriad side quests in a vibrant world of giallo colors and lighting. Foster friendships or fiery romances between them all, strengthening combo attacks and elemental affinities and uncovering new endings. Explore extracurriculars in and around town with a darkly comedic cast of eccentrics.

Originally planned for launch in 2023, delayed until Q2 2024, then set for September, Demonschool is now scheduled for Q1 2025

Demonschool will be postponed to Q1 2025 to allow for additional development time.

“You never want to delay a game, but Demonschool means a lot to us. We've really put everything we have into this project, and as we got closer to release we realized that meeting the Sept. 13th deadline would necessarily mean a game with less content than we originally envisioned.

After discussing with Ysbryd, we realized we have a couple of paths forward. We could:

  1. Ship the game in the state it’ll be in on Sept. 13. We’re proud of the game as it stands, but we want to make this world feel even livelier.
  2. Ship the game in early 2025, which would allow us to manifest our bigger dreams into reality.

We believe the second option would be better for everyone for everyone who has followed our work so far. So we are delaying the game to make sure it's as chock full of Things To Do as we had hoped. Realistically, the player would never have known. It still would've been a finished product. But we would have known that the game could have been more, and that's the game we want to share. Ysbryd gave us the flexibility to do this, which is very unusual for a publisher these days, and we’re thankful for the opportunity to do this right. Since we’ll be taking extra time, we plan to create short dev diaries up until launch to offer more insight into the work we have ahead. We hope you look forward to these deeper dives into our process.

We're sorry for those who are eagerly awaiting the game, but are very hopeful that all the extra content will be worth the wait. 2024 has been a very trying year for the team, so we appreciate your understanding.” - Necrosoft Games

Demonschool worships at the ritual altar of classic Italian horror films of the '60s and '70s, drenched in strange visuals and hellish grotesquery driven by a funky bassline that renders even the most horrific scenario irreverent. Its tactical battles evoke genre giants like Into the Breach, but fluid mechanics with fewer clicks and a generous planning phase make starting this class a cakewalk.

Key Features:

  • Tactics: Rewind any action during the planning phase and create combos to dispatch your foes.
  • Story: A light horror narrative told through huge avatars with side quests aplenty.
  • Schedule: Plan your school schedule to level your characters and build their skills.
  • Friendship: 15 characters with whom to build relationships.

Demonschool is coming to the Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, PC (Steam Deck), Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S in Q1 2025.
