Marvel Rivals is a cooperative, Super Hero team-based PVP shooter that lets players assemble an ever-evolving all-star squad of Super Heroes and Super Villains while battling with unique super powers across a dynamic lineup of destructible maps from across the Marvel Multiverse. 

Marvel Rivals features a storyline crafted by the NetEase writing team where the merciless clash between the tyrannical dictator Doctor Doom and his future counterpart from the year 2099 has forced countless universes to collide in the Timestream Entanglement, creating new worlds and crises still unknown.

Now, Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the multiverse must fight together and against one another as disparate groups seek to defeat both Dooms before one achieves domination of these realities. Familiar faces become newfound foes while former enemies become the greatest of allies in Marvel Rivals!

You’re not just higher-dimensional beings controlling game characters, nor are you elite players pressing buttons at high APM — you ARE the heroes. We wanted to take these Super Heroes and push them like never before! Use Magneto to cast Metal Bulwark to protect your teammates from projectile damage. Choose Hela and call upon forces of Nastrond to annihilate your enemies. Choose Venom to tap into the power of the symbiote and devour your enemies or pick Adam Warlock and unleash the potential of quantum magic, establishing a soul bond with your teammates to charge ahead or resurrect your entire team. Better yet, leverage the power of flight by choosing Iron Man, Storm, and other flying heroes to suppress enemies using aerial combat techniques.

Heroes are split into three distinct roles based on their unique power inclinations: Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist. You’re free to pick your preferred role and hero, teaming up with allies to create a versatile and dynamic lineup for battle.

Marvel Games and NetEase Games announced the details for Season 1: Eternal Night Falls for Marvel Rivals, which will kick off on January 10, 2025 at 09:00 UTC and will introduce the Fantastic Four as playable heroes.

Each three-month long season of Marvel Rivals will be divided into two halves. For Eternal Night Falls, Invisible Woman and Mister Fantastic will be released in the first half of the season, followed by Human Torch and The Thing in the second half. Season 1 will also feature three new maps, special events and an all-new Doom Match game mode.

Three new maps will be added during Season 1 for Empire of Eternal Night in New York City: Sanctum Sanctorum and Midtown (both coming in the first half of the season), and Central Park (coming in the second half). 

Shockwaves generated by the Timestream Entanglement sweep over and through New York City, leaving Doctor Strange lost in the Entangled Astral Plane. Although he is eventually rescued by Scarlet Witch, multiple pages of the Darkhold are scattered after his escape. Dracula, with the support of Doctor Doom, seizes his chance during Doctor Strange's disappearance, tapping into the dark power of Chronovium to stop the moon. Without the sun to worry about, Dracula unleashes his legions to overrun the city. With New York City at the brink of supernatural collapse, the heroes turn to science for a solution.

• Invisible Woman (Strategist) - Cosmic rays altered Susan Richards on a cellular level, granting her the ability to generate impenetrable force fields and to make herself fade from sight in an instant. Despite her frequent lack of visibility, it has always been perfectly clear that Sue is the force holding her family — the Fantastic Four — together. After the Timestream Entanglement, the Invisible Woman has taken full advantage of her powers, using stealth to explore locations too dangerous for her fellow heroes, especially going on rescue missions for civilians trapped by the creatures of the night.
• Mister Fantastic (Duelist) - Reed Richards has one of the universe's most brilliant minds, but even a genius of his magnitude couldn't have predicted the interstellar incident that bombarded his friends and family with cosmic rays, granting them each extraordinary abilities. Mister Fantastic's cellular elasticity allows him to stretch his body beyond all physical limits. But now he'll have to stretch his mind further than ever to build the Timestream Reintegration Device and end this cross-dimensional crisis...
• Human Torch (Duelist) - Teenager Johnny Storm joined his sister on the crew of an experimental space mission in hopes of visiting the stars. Instead, he became one, gaining powers and popularity as a member of the world famous Fantastic Four. Able to generate scorching flames, Johnny is the hottest hero in town – the Human Torch. Since darkness fell on New York City, Johnny has been busy burning Dracula's legions with flames brighter than the sun.
• The Thing (Vanguard) - When Ben Grimm signed up to pilot an experimental spacecraft for his pal Reed Richards, he never imagined he'd return from the flight transformed into a monster. Even though cosmic rays turned him into the Thing, Ben still has a heart of gold beneath his rocky exterior. Since New York City plunged into eternal night, Ben has devoted himself to protecting his home from the monsters plaguing it. 

Season 1 will also feature an all-new game mode entitled Doom Match. In this mode, 8 to 12 players will battle on a single map, each belonging to a different faction, with all factions being hostile to each other. Players earn points by knocking out enemies, and at the end of the match, the top 50% of players by default will be considered the winning side.

Season 1 will also feature an all-new seasonal event: Midnight Features. Players can complete the seasonal activities to unlock limited-time rewards, including exclusive galleries, costume, spray, unit, nameplate, and more! Also, starting January 11, Marvel Rivals is introducing brand new Twitch Drop exclusive rewards, including the Hela: Will of Galacta spray, nameplate, and costume and more.

Players will also discover a brand new Battle Pass, which features over double the content of the Season 0 pass.The Eternal Night Fall Luxury Battle Pass is loaded with 10 stunning costumes and their related content such as sprays and emotes. The price for the Season 1 Luxury Battle Pass is set at 990 Lattice and players will receive 600 Lattice and 600 Units back by completing it. The Marvel Rivals team has also designed a unique mechanism for Battle Pass and Chrono Tokens—ensuring that Luxury Battle Passes never expire and that Tokens purchased with Lattice are retained under certain conditions.

Thanks to invaluable player feedback and ongoing analysis, a number of hero adjustments will be made to improve how the Marvel Rivals roster is utilized in battle. Season 1 will see several balance updates, including enhancements to mobile-type Vanguards like Captain America and Venom to improve their ability to charge into a fight and protect their allies, while Wolverine and Storm will also see a boost in their capabilities, bringing them in line with the other powerful Duelists.

Luxury Battle Pass

The Luxury Battle Pass, once obtained, shall endure through the ages. Now, let's go over the key tenets of what this means:

• Luxury Battle Passes do not expire. Once you purchase a Luxury Battle Pass, you can continue to redeem its rewards in subsequent seasons. At the upper right corner of any Battle Pass interface, the "NEXUS" button stands as a portal to the Reality Link Point, where Galacta stands sentinel over every Luxury Battle Pass you have acquired, beckoning you to access its bounties at your leisure.
• Should you desire to continue unlocking rewards of an earlier Battle pass in any subsequent season, Chrono Tokens must be acquired anew to meet the unlocking conditions of the pages of the previous Battle Pass in the new season. The reason for this is twofold: Firstly, we still recommend and encourage completing the Battle Pass within its designated season; secondly, we hope you will immerse yourselves in the new season's Battle Pass, as each Battle Pass is crafted based on the season's theme. Commencing a new season and embracing its Battle Pass will enrich your understanding of each seasonal saga.
• Please note that it is not possible to purchase Luxury Battle Pass from the previous seasons. Once a season draws to a close, the acquisition of its Luxury Battle Pass becomes an unattainable relic, even inaccessible via the Reality Link Point.

Refreshing and Retaining Chrono Tokens at Season's End:

Some players may have noted that the Battle Pass rules mention that at the end of each season, all accumulated Chrono Tokens and their total count will be reset. However, we have seen the discussions within the community that have illuminated a quandary: what happens to the players that already spent Lattice to procure additional Chrono Tokens that have a surplus by season's close? Fear not, for we have devised a plan to protect unused Chrono Tokens purchased with Lattice from one season to the next. Here's the plan moving forward:

• Automatic Item Redemption (Luxury Battle Pass Only): As a season ends, should surplus Chrono Tokens linger and the Battle Pass remain incompletely redeemed, the system shall automatically claim remaining items in the default sequence until there are not enough Chrono Tokens to redeem any further, or all items have been redeemed. After the new season starts, you'll get an in-game mail with what you got via this automatic redemption. It's still best to manually redeem your items before the season ends, but if you miss any, the system will help minimize any Chrono Token losses.
• Chrono Tokens Refresh: After the automatic redemption, any remaining Chrono Tokens will be cleared and your total will be reset to zero.
• However, as mentioned above, we're also adding a rule to do our utmost to keep any excess Chrono Tokens that have been purchased with Lattice:
• If you've spent Lattice on Chrono Tokens in the current season, and there are still some left after the automatic redemption (no need for automatic redemption if you've already redeemed them all), a portion of them may be kept for the next season.
• The specific amount retained will be the lesser of the remaining Chrono Tokens and the total Chrono Tokens you bought with Lattice in the current season. 
• Retained Chrono Tokens will be sent to you via in-game mail when the new season begins.
• These retained Chrono Tokens in the new season will be treated as being "purchased with Lattice." If they're still around at the end of the following season, they'll continue into subsequent seasons, augmenting the cumulative Chrono Tokens tally and hastening your access to the various pages of the Battle Pass.
• Please note that Chrono Tokens obtained by purchasing the upgraded Luxury Battle Pass, or any additional discounted Chrono Tokens obtained via the upgraded Luxury Battle Pass (such as the 1,400 Chrono Tokens in Season 0) shall not be treated as being "purchased with Lattice."

Here are some examples to illustrate the aforementioned retention rules:

• Let' s say you spend a total of 1,000 Lattice to secure 1,000 Chrono Tokens in the current season. Then, the season ends, and the automatic item redemption is completed. Here’s what happens after:
  • If 500 Chrono Tokens remain, then these 500 Chrono Tokens will be retained for the next season.
  • If 1,500 Chrono Tokens remain, then the 1,000 purchased Chrono Tokens will be retained for the next season.

From Season 1, the total Chrono Tokens obtained with Lattice in the current season shall be displayed in the upper right corner.

In Marvel Rivals, the bonds and friendships that once lived only in the lore are brought to life on the battlefield through Team-Up Abilities, further enriching and changing your combat strategy. Magneto can receive a touch of Scarlet Witch’s chaos magic and use his giant steel sword to slash at enemies with a chaos energy wave. Hulk can enhance Iron Man’s Nano Armor, enabling it to emit incredibly powerful gamma energy infused in his Unibeam. Of course, the classic scene where Rocket Raccoon rides on Groot’s shoulders and fires wildly at the enemy can also be recreated in the game. When up against overwhelming enemies, even Venom and the Spider-Totems can set aside their differences to morph into a united Venomized force, piercing through the battlefield with dark, lethal spikes!
