Swapmeat is a co-op roguelite third-person shooter where you drop onto a series of increasingly challenging planets and engage in combat with the unfriendly locals, swapping body parts with the alien weirdos you defeat. Attach a wide swath of strange (and usually squishy) heads, legs and torsos to your Meat Scientist suit, gaining powerful abilities to change up your play style on the fly.
Loot defeated enemies for fresh meat to top off your HP and fine-tune your arsenal of abilities as you face down the next wave of weirdos.
In Swapmeat, players step into the boots of Meat Scientists working for the multi-galactic corporation Rangus Meats. Your mission? Raid the weirdest worlds in the cosmos, engage in exhilarating third-person combat, harvest DNA samples from the locals, and extract the planets’ meat cores. Whether solo or with a four-player co-op squad, you’ll battle alien weirdos and beefy bosses for their meaty trophies. As you loot body parts – from heads and legs to torsos – you’ll enhance your character with game-changing abilities, switching up playstyles on the fly using Rangus Meats’ patented Smart Meat technology.
One More Game revealed that Swapmeat will launch in 2025 for PC and macOS via Steam.
The developer also shared the dates for what will be one of the final Meat Lab playtests for the game prior to launch.
Running from May 15 through 22, players can sign up for Meat Lab 5 access at playSWAPMEAT.com to experience the game’s delightfully squishy – and surprisingly deep – meat-swapping gameplay mechanic.
The Meat Lab 5 open playtest will run from May 15 at 10 a.m. PT through May 22 at 5 p.m. PT. Players who refer three friends will get guaranteed access for their entire squad (while supplies last).
The latest updates and improvements in the beefy new Meat Lab 5 build include:
- Welcome to Solar System 2
- Take on an all-new Mutant Boss for the Mutant Space Wrestlers in Space Federation Championship Edition Belt
- One new biome and three new planets
- A fancy new-and-improved HUD
- Spicy new combat changes
- Weapon Switching
- In-Run Weapon Upgrades
- Updated Active Reload system
- Elemental Damage & Status Effect revamp
- Improvements to many Abilities' overall feel
- Lots of Ability, Weapon, Mutation, and Artifact balance
- Gathering – You’ll now encounter Fish Rifts, Mineral Veins, and Ancient Technology that can be harvested to unlock and upgrade things on your ship. Careful, though, you will need to successfully extract from the planet if you intend to keep your haul
- Materials Trader – Trader Mike will join you on your ship early on in Solar System 1 to offer you deals, purchase your extra goods, and ASK ABOUT YOUR EXPENSES
Key Features:
- Swapmeat has the deep and rewarding progression you’d expect from a great roguelite. Every time you make it back to the mothership with your meat parts intact, you can upgrade your weapons, your abilities, and even yourself.
- Play solo if you’re in the mood for a single serving, or squad up with 1-4 coworkers, err, friends — SWAPMEAT’s tuned for co-op shootin’ and lootin’! With shared upgrades, strategic teamplay, and brutal boss fights, the chain’s only as strong as its weakest (sausage) link.
- You’re a Meat Scientist for Rangus Meats, a multi-galactic corporation dedicated to discovering the ultimate sustainable meat product to feed the universe…at least that’s what you think…
- This ain't your daddy's third-person action shooter with roguelite elements. In SWAPMEAT, a run doesn't truly end until you take down a gargantuan Beefy Boss, a planet-spanning encounter that challenges your entire team to work together, just like a raid boss in other genres.
Swapmeat is coming to PC/macOS (Steam) in 2025.
