'Street Fighter 6' Shows Off Sagat Gameplay, Outfits, Muay Thai Moves And More - Screens & Trailer

by Rainier on July 15, 2025 @ 4:56 p.m. PDT

With more ways than ever to play, Street Fighter 6 represents the next evolution of the Street Fighter series.

With explosive style, a diverse roster of characters, a new system built for creativity, and more ways to play than ever, Street Fighter 6 has something for everyone – new and old fans alike – and will be ready to take on all contenders

Powered by Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine, Street Fighter 6 spans three distinct game modes, including Fighting Ground, World Tour and Battle Hub. The experience also includes innovative new gameplay features, plus enhanced visuals for every aspect of the game.

The RE Engine enables the development team to bring-to-life fine details like individual muscles tensing up, cinematic Super Arts, and special stage effects like cherry blossom petals twirling along with each character’s movement, all in an effort to enhance the gameplay experience like never before. Pair these enhancements with the splashes of paint and street aesthetic, and you get the distinct art style of Street Fighter 6.

In addition to new gameplay innovations, Street Fighter 6 also celebrates what fans love about the franchise by uniting core fighting modes from previous titles – including Arcade Mode, online matches, Training Mode, local versus battles and more – to the Fighting Ground experience. From iconic World Warriors like Ryu and Chun-Li, to the final addition to the Street Fighter V roster Luke, and our new expert breakdancer Jamie, players will have a wide range of fighting styles and skills to master.

As the final boss in the original Street Fighter game, veterans and newcomers will be eager to reign supreme as the fearsome Sagat in Street Fighter 6. Sagat’s moveset is inspired by Muay Thai, a martial art and combat sport originating from Thailand, combined with uppercuts, knees, and an added twist…fireballs! Under Sagat’s rule, a new stage called Proud Spire will be released as well, featuring a calming temple and a peaceful Buddha statue in the background.

Sagat’s regalia includes two Outfits – Outfit 1 is a newer look featuring a darker Muay Thai-inspired theme, while Outfit 2 is an ode to his Street Fighter II appearance where he dons Muay Thai shorts, plus hand and foot wraps which are common for many Muay Thai practitioners. Outfit 2 can be earned in World Tour by maxing out your bond with Sagat or purchased via Fighter Coins.

Year 3 Ultimate Pass and Year 3 Character Pass – both of which will unlock Sagat, the three remaining Year 3 characters, including C. Viper, Alex, and Ingrid, plus new Outfit colors and Drive Tickets – are available now for purchase across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam, with both passes available for pre-order on Nintendo Switch 2. Content included in the pass will unlock starting when Sagat releases on August 5, 2025.

As displayed in the latest trailer, Sagat’s Muay Thai moveset focuses on crushing, hard-hitting blows courtesy of his big frame that also gives him solid kicks with notable physical range, including:

  • High Tiger Shot: Fire a ki blast forward to hit standing opponents, with the blast fired at different speeds depending on the button being pressed
  • Low Tiger Shot: Fire a ki blast forward that can hit crouching opponents. Use both fireballs to keep opponents guessing!
  • Tiger Uppercut: A powerful anti-air attack which the heavy version can be held down to send opponents flying
  • Tiger Knee Crush: Leap forward and catch opponents off guard with a powerful knee attack
  • Tiger Nexus: A brand new special move where Sagat strikes with his knee and can then be followed up with three different kicks – Mighty Tiger, Greedy Tiger, or Nova Tiger
  • Tiger Cannon: Sagat’s Level 1 Super Art, where he fires a mighty Tiger Shot
  • Savage Tiger: Sagat’s Level 2 Super Art, where after Sagat leaps forward, this Super Art can be followed up with four moves.
    • Savage Tiger Raid: The highest damage of all the options
    • Savage Tiger Zenith: Launches the opponent in the air and can be followed up with more attacks
    • Savage Tiger Pendulum: Allows Sagat to switch places with his opponent
    • Savage Tiger Stomp: Leaves Sagat close to the enemy, allowing for better “oki”
  • Tiger Vanquisher: Sagat’s Level 3 Super Art unleashes all of his power in a series of devastating kicks and a beastly uppercut

Additional Street Fighter 6 Updates:

  • “Coming up, better think fast” with the æspa Collab: As a reminder, players still have the chance to acquire Juri’s Outfit 4, inspired by the collaboration with the global phenom K-pop group æspa. Future Street Fighter 6 Year 3 characters joining the roster include C. Viper (Autumn 2025), Alex (Early Spring 2026), and Ingrid (Late Spring 2026) so stay tuned for more news and updates on Street Fighter 6 coming soon!

Sagat joins the Street Fighter 6 roster starting on August 5 with crossplay support across PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and now the newly released Nintendo Switch 2!

Ryu continues training on his endless quest to find true strength. Well-mannered and sincere, he travels the globe in search of worthy opponents. Having overcome the Satsui no Hado, he now yearns for something greater.

Ryu has new moves to reflect his growth over the years. He uses Hashogeki to concentrate his ki in his palms and unleashes it a short distance forward. It’s useful as a follow-up after block strings and combos. During Denjin Charge, Ryu envelops his fists with the Power of Nothingness, enhancing special moves such as Hadoken and Hashogeki. Ryu is vulnerable while performing this move, so careful timing is critical.

Chun-Li is a former agent from the ICPO (International Criminal Police Organization). She now looks after Li-Fen, a victim of the Black Moon Incident from Street Fighter V.  With Shadaloo now fallen, Chun-Li teaches kung fu classes and has become a beloved member of the local community.

Like the legend she is, Chun-Li also has new moves in Street Fighter 6. During Tensho Kicks, Chun-Li rises into the air with a flurry of kicks, which is useful for countering an opponent’s jump attack or to close out combos. She also has a new Unique Move called Serenity Stream, which sees her positioning herself close to the ground. During this stance, Chun-Li’s each normal attack button produces different attacks.

Luke uses his background as a contractor for a private military company to teach mixed martial arts. He spends his days off eating junk food, playing video games, and challenging opponents to a good old fight. Nevertheless, he always has victory in his sights.

Luke’s DDT is a powerful throw activated after the first hit of an Overdrive (OD) Flash Knuckle and is useful for dishing out extra damage. His Fatal Shot fires an additional shockwave after an OD Sand Blast to secure more damage after trading projectiles.

Jamie is a self-styled Chinatown peacekeeper who aspires to walk in the footsteps of Yun and Yang, the Twin Dragons. An expert dancer, Jamie places justice and friendship above all else, defending his town with martial arts.

The Devil Inside is Jamie’s signature move where he takes a swig out of his ki-unleashing drink to raise his Drink Level where higher levels unlock additional moves – and changes his appearance. Jamie can use Luminous Dive Kick at Drink Level 1+, where he extends his leg after a forward jump and quickly drops to the ground.  Another Special Move is Bakkai, which can be used at Drink Level 2+, where Jamie slides along the ground in a series of rotating, upside-down kicks. This move does heavy damage, and is useful when performing combos against opponents that have left themselves wide open.

We look forward to revealing more about which other combatants will join the roster of playable characters later this year.

New Control Scheme

For those who are worried that fighting game inputs are too complicated, Capcom would like to introduce you to Street Fighter 6’s Modern Control Type, where a special move can be performed by combining the “Special Move” button with one directional input. Furthermore, simple combos can be performed by holding down the “Assist” button and continuously pressing some of the attack buttons. Take a look at the chart below to see how much easier it is to perform your character’s flashiest attacks, including Drive System moves. As you can also see, the Classic Control Type is still available for more seasoned players. Feel free to switch between the two!

New Core Fighting Mechanics

Street Fighter 6 marks the debut of the new Drive System, which includes both new and familiar features that will test your creativity. The Drive System allows you to use five different techniques to enhance your offense and defense. Using these techniques will deplete the Drive Gauge, which consists of six Drive Stocks. Some techniques use more stocks than others. While the Drive Gauge does replenish over time, if you happen to run out, you’ll be temporarily put in a vulnerable state called Burnout. During Burnout, if your opponent hits you with Drive Impact in the corner of the stage and makes your back slam against the wall, you’ll be Stunned – that’s right Stun works differently in Street Fighter 6.

In-Game Commentating

A few well-known Fighting Game Community (FGC) commentators and notable faces are lending their voices to be featured in Street Fighter 6. They will offer dynamic real-time commentary as your matches go on and provide easy-to-understand explanations about gameplay. The Real Time Commentary Feature will also support subtitles in 13 languages for more accessibility. The first commentators to hype up your matches are Jeremy “Vicious” Lopez and Aru!

New Foundations

Street Fighter 6 contains three foundational pillars, each with multiple features or additional modes under them. In Fighting Ground, you will get the classic (and upgraded) fighting game experience, complete with the core modes you expect. The other two pillars are exciting new additions to the series. World Tour is a single-player immersive story mode that pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows you to leave your own legacy within Street Fighter 6 with your player avatar. Battle Hub, which was briefly shown at the end of Announce Trailer, will also offer players new and unique ways to engage and communicate. Both World Tour and Battle Hub will require a deeper dive in the future, so keep an eye out!

Capcom will also have much more to share on World Tour and Battle Hub as Street Fighter 6 gets closer to launch. For now, what we can share is that World Tour is a single-player immersive story mode that pushes the boundaries of what a fighting game is and allows players to leave their own legacy with their player avatar. Battle Hub, shown only briefly so far, provides players with new and unique ways to engage, communicate and interact.

Street Fighter 6 is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC (Steam).
