'Diablo IV' Season 10: Infernal Chaos Begins Next Week, Adding New Boss, Chaos Rifts, Chaos Perks & Chaos Armor And More - Trailer

by Rainier on Sept. 16, 2025 @ 11:44 a.m. PDT

Diablo IV draws players into a grim story line and gives them the freedom to explore and forge their own path across the most expansive and intense vision of the world of Sanctuary—a bleak and shattered hellscape bereft of hope and beset by demons.

An ancient evil threatens to engulf Sanctuary in darkness, and new heroes have been called upon to face challenges the world has never seen before.

True to the franchise’s roots, Diablo IV will deliver visceral combat, gruesome and varied monsters, an epic hunt for legendary loot, and endless playability and progression. Players will find a lifetime’s worth of adventure scattered across a land rooted in unique ecologies and inhabited by dangerous new foes. They’ll delve into randomized dungeons packed with unpredictable adversaries and unimaginable treasures. While continuing to fully support solo and coordinated party play, Diablo IV will also provide opportunities for groups of players to encounter each other in the same shared world—whether to tackle bigger challenges . . . or possibly even slaughter one another in player-vs.-player combat.

In Diablo IV, players will attempt to bring hope back to the world by vanquishing evil in all its vile incarnations—from cannibalistic demon-worshipping cultists to the all-new drowned undead that emerge from the coastlines to drag their victims to a watery grave. For the first time in the series, Sanctuary will be a contiguous, seamless landmass comprising diverse regions ranging from the burning desert of Kejhistan, to the verdant werewolf-infested forests of Scosglen, to the harsh and rugged wilderness of the Dry Steppes.

Blizzard Entertainment announced Season 10 of Diablo IV: Infernal Chaos, arriving September 23. In Season 10, chaos consumes Sanctuary as the dreaded Bartuc, Lord of Chaos, emerges. Players will face reworked Infernal Hordes, battle through Chaos Rifts, and harness devastating Chaos Perks to carve their path through absolute madness.

New Content:

  • New Boss: The former Warlord of Blood, Bartuc, comes back to Sanctuary as the Lord of Chaos. This Vizjerai Warlord summons Chaos Portals to warp the battlefield.
    • Wanderers can choose to challenge Bartuc during Infernal Hordes runs by earning enough Burning Aether. Those that defeat Bartuc grant the best rewards, including the most reliable source of Chaos Armor.
  • Infernal Hordes Reignited: The endgame wave-based mode is reborn with Chaos Waves, escalating encounters that push even the strongest wanderers to their limits.  While fighting The Fell Council, one member gets designated as Council Speaker with enhanced abilities.
  • Chaos Perks & Chaos Armor: Seasonal reputation unlocks class-specific Chaos Perks that dramatically change builds. Chaos Armor adds a twist on Uniques, letting classic uniques roll at maximum power and allowing them to be equipped on non-traditional slots.
  • Chaos Rifts: These unpredictable portals tear open across Helltides and Nightmare Dungeons, offering massive rewards once sealed. Players defeat new Chaos Monsters to grant seasonal reputation and Infernal Warps, a resource that upgrades Chaos Perks.

Rally Against Hell in Season of Infernal Chaos

On September 23, the veil shifts between Sanctuary and the Burning Hells in Season of Infernal Chaos. Hunt down powerful Chaos Armor and unlock deadly Chaos Perks to wield incredible power and build-defining possibilities. Mephisto’s presence weakens the boundary between worlds, allowing the Fell Council to escape Hell and spread destructive Chaos Rifts across Sanctuary. Delve into the Seasonal Questline to discover the Fell Council’s plot to sow destruction across the land.

This season brings permanent updates to Eternal and Seasonal Realms in the Infernal Hordes with Chaos Waves, and Bartuc, Lord of Chaos, an all-new boss fight to master.

Season of Infernal Chaos At a Glance

Earn Seasonal progression, Viz-Jaq'taar Veneration, by sealing Chaos Rifts in Helltide and Nightmare Dungeons. Earn Magic, Rare, and Legendary Chaos Perks by progressing through the Seasonal Reputation board. Earn Unique Chaos Perks by defeating Bartuc in Torment Tiers. Upgrade Chaos Perks by earning Infernal Warp through sealing Chaos Rifts and defeating Chaos Monsters.

Chaos Armor can be earned from many sources across the game, while Bartuc is an excellent source of Chaos Armor in Torment Tiers with a guaranteed drop chance in Torment III and IV.

Something Dastardly Stirs in the Seasonal Questline

Following disturbing events in Ked Bardu, meet with the assassin Shyan to root out the source of terrible new demons. Shyan belongs to the order of the Viz-Jaq'taar, responsible for eliminating demon-corrupted mages. The Viz-Jaq'taar were created by the Vizjerai after the Mage Clan Wars, a brutal conflict in Sanctuary’s past. This order is now set on seeking the source of these new Chaos Rifts that spread destruction across Sanctuary. The signs point to a plot from the Fell Council, and the unmistakable return of Bartuc, Lord of Chaos, signaling Mephisto’s influence among these events.

To begin the Seasonal Questline Sands of Chaos, head to Ked Bardu in the Seasonal Realm and speak to the distraught villager to join the hunt.

Infernal Hordes Reborn

Bartuc’s return to Sanctuary has stoked the flames of the Infernal Hordes and the fires of the Burning Hells are hotter than they’ve even been before. The Infernal Hordes is shaking up in several key ways: Chaos Waves, the Fell Council, Bartuc, and more.

Chaos Waves

Among the Infernal Offerings within the Infernal Hordes, Chaos Waves enter to throw your visit to hell into a bloody frenzy. Chaos Offerings will occasionally appear between waves, transforming a standard wave into a volatile crucible of randomized, rule-breaking encounters. These high-intensity combat trials aren’t for the faint of spirit, with each type imbuing havoc and intense challenge. These waves will have significantly increased difficulty, but reward far more Aether should you be able to survive.

Chaos Waves will have many different combinations to discover and master. Dodge deadly projectiles from Chaos Rifts, slay a rampaging Hellwyrm, or hunt down erratic Aether Goblins. Chaos awaits!

Confront Bartuc, Lord of Chaos

At the end of your Infernal Hordes run, you’ll be met with a choice. Choose to fight against the tested Fell Council, or up the ante and throw down against the insidious Bartuc. Read on for more details on the Lord of Chaos’ return.

Dialing up the Heat in the Infernal Hordes

We’ve changed the moment-to-moment combat within the Infernal Hordes in a few different ways. First, we've done an overall re-work of the Infernal Offerings revealed between each Wave. Our goal is to try and make all offerings feel valid as choices for you as you start to stack them to focus on your run. This includes additional balancing to ensure that Infernal Offerings are more balanced across the board compared to the Hellborne wave, which has been seen as essential for the best possible Infernal Hordes run.

Hell has unearthed a new monster family—Chaos Monsters—from deep within its horrid maw. Born of smoke and brimstone, some of these Chaos Monsters provide a mighty shrine-like buff when killed. Slay Chaos Bringers to earn a temporary buff, which can be increased in duration through the Urn of Sustain from Seasonal Blessings. For the advanced demon slayers, if you can manage to kill another Chaos Bringer before your first buff expires, they’ll stack.

Additionally, the door to enter the Infernal Hordes now opens much more quickly than before. Usually, people are slightly more reserved to enter the Burning Hells, but not you, wanderer.

The Fell Council

The Fell Council has had some promotions. When fighting them, one of their members will now be the designated Council Speaker and gain enhanced abilities.

Slake your Bloodthirst in The Fleeting Hordes

We’re introducing a warming version of the Infernal Hordes to burn through earlier in your character journey. You can play this trimmed down version of the Infernal Hordes in pre-Tournament Tiers.

Fleeting Hordes will be four waves in total, with limited Infernal Offerings to keep the packs of vicious monsters under relative control. Upon completing the final wave, you’ll fight two of the Fell Council members before you can spend your hard-earned Aether for rewards.

Bartuc Beckons

An infamous Vizjerei Warlord known for his acts of cruelty performed in the Mage Clan Wars, Bartuc’s perversion knows no bounds. He returns to Sanctuary with a new title, the Lord of Chaos.

To fight Bartuc, each member of your party will need to spend Aether for the chance to eliminate this cruel threat. The first member of your party who selects Bartuc decides for the rest of the party.

Bartuc will harness Chaos portals to shoot projectiles at your location and deploys an arsenal of malevolence to claim your life. Master his tactics and use the teleport pads strategically to gain the upper hand.

Similar to other bosses starting with Season of Infernal Chaos, Bartuc’s invulnerability phase can only occur after 10 seconds of the fight has elapsed.

Upon defeat, Bartuc’s rewards will appear on the ground, so you do not have to spend additional Aether to earn these rewards.

Harness Entropy with Chaos Armor

The only certainty is that nothing is certain. No entity is free from Chaos’s grasp—human, Horadrim, Angel, or Demon. All dance in its path, so rather than succumb to its erratic forces, harness this untapped power for yourself.

A new Unique Armor type has entered Sanctuary. Chaos Armor is a more fearsome version of existing Unique items that come with a diabolical twist. Chaos Armor are existing Unique items which appear as more formidable counterparts fit for other item slots, leading to entirely new ways of dispensing carnage.

Chaos Armor can appear in the following item slots:

  • Helm
  • Chest
  • Gloves
  • Pants
  • Boots

Chaos Armor will only appear as an item fit for anything other than its original slot, and the color of their item names are distinct. For example, Flickerstep won’t have a Chaos Armor version in the Boots slot. The aspects on Chaos Armor are also more potent than their normal counterpart, always appear at Maximum power, and have at least one Greater Affix.

Note: you won’t be able to equip the same Unique item between Chaos Armor and standard Unique.

For example, you could have Fists of Fate drop as a Helm instead of Gloves, allowing you to equip a different set of Unique Gloves to compound those affixes in a combination that was previously unavailable. Theorycrafting is the name of the game this season.

To earn Chaos Armor, defeat Bartuc in Torment III and IV for a guaranteed drop. Defeating Bartuc in Torment I and II also has a smaller chance to drop Chaos Armor as well.

Seal Chaos Rifts

Strange portals of crackling energy have appeared across Sanctuary, unleashing the Burning Hells’ legions through their wicked rifts. Chaos Rifts materialize to terrorize the denizens with untold fury.

Chaos Rifts appear within Helltide and Nightmare Dungeons. Put down the demons pouring from them and seal them away for seasonal reputation and Infernal Warp, which is used to level up your Chaos Perks. They’re also a great source of chaotic loot, granting additional experience, gems, and Chaos Armor in Torment difficulties.

In extremely rare cases, when playing in Torment difficulties, you may even come across a Chaos Rift of Mythical proportions...

Chaos Rift Nightmare Dungeons

Chaos has seeped into the fabric of Sanctuary’s Dungeons, delivering bloodthirsty Chaos Monsters through these grim halls of carnage. These Nightmare Dungeons are rife with Chaos Rifts, which are great sources of fleeting Hordes Compasses. Since the PTR, these Chaos Rifts now provide similar rewards to their overworld Helltide counterparts. Additionally, the stacking getting hit by an attack from a Chaos Portal no longer increases your overall damage taken.

Wield Devastating Chaos Perks

Something incredible has descended upon Sanctuary, imbuing your abilities with devastating effect. Chaotic magic distorts all that it touches, even you! Chaos is of course, chaotic, and these Perks often come at a price for the power they provide.

Chaos Perks change how your skills function, harness your finest buildcraft to create devastating combinations. There are 4 different rarities of Perks: Magic, Rare, Legendary, and Unique. Magic, Rare, and Legendary Chaos Perks twist and empower your skills, while Unique Perks dramatically reshape your entire build.

You can equip three non-Unique perks at once, and one Unique Perk. In addition to the Perks every class can use, each class has their own set of exclusive perks. Overall, each class has access to 16 perks, four of each rarity, and four class-specific perks.

Progress through the Seasonal Reputation board to unlock Chaos Perks, and defeat Bartuc within the Infernal Hordes in Torment I or higher for a chance to unlock Unique Perks. Upgrade Chaos Perks by collecting Infernal Warp, earned by defeating Chaos Family monsters.

Lair Boss Invulnerability Changes

Based off resounding community feedback, we are changing the way invulnerability phases work across Lair Bosses. When fighting Lair Bosses, their invulnerability phase cannot be triggered until after 10 seconds of the fight has elapsed. Invulnerability phases can now effectively bypassed if the player exceeds certain damage thresholds.

At 2/3 and 1/3 Life the boss gets a shield, which lasts for five seconds. At 2/3 of remaining Life, the shield’s value is 1/3 the boss’ max life. When the boss is at 1/3 Life, the shield’s value is 2/3 the boss’ max Life. If they player breaks the shield with those five seconds it’s active, the boss does not become invulnerable.

-The Diablo IV Team

Diablo IV is developed using modern technology that pushes the franchise to dark, new depths. This technology is at the heart of everything players will see, hear, and feel—delivering much higher fidelity and a more engrossing experience. It opens up countless possibilities for the Diablo series, from smooth character animations, such as the Druid’s fluid shapeshifting, to the seamless, vast overworld players will travel across in search of the next loot-filled underground dungeon. Ultimately, Diablo IV grounds players in a grittier and deadlier world.

Diablo IV is available for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and PC (Steam).
