Time Rifts filled with interdimensional terrors are just another thing to watch out for when visiting Australia. Team up with friends to confront interdimensional terrors in this heart-pumping, adrenaline-fueled horror game.
Guided by Banjo, an eccentric recluse with an unclear past, you and your friends will venture deep into an unstable time rift, tasked with uncovering the source of terrifying anomalies. Upgrade your gear, learn new skills, and fight with everything you've got to save humankind from a fate worse than death.
Macabre features a highly replayable game loop, addictive progression, and the option to play solo or with friends. The game is designed with depth and replayability in mind, offering unique locations, immersive art and sound, cunning creatures, and a pinch of Dark comedy.
Developed in Unreal Engine 5 for PC, Macabre aims to bring the immersive and terrifying experience of high-end single-player horror games to a multiplayer audience.
Australian independent developer Weforge Studio launched Macabre on Steam Early Access, and will remain so for up to two years
“Macabre is built around tension, teamwork, and unpredictability. The adaptive AI and procedural systems ensure no two runs feel the same. Early Access lets us refine and expand those systems with player feedback,” said Jake Davey, Game Director.
“This is the moment we have worked toward for more than four years. From late-night prototypes to a life-changing Kickstarter, Macabre is finally in players’ hands. Early Access gives us the runway to keep building, testing, and evolving the game together with our community,” said Jay Topping, Creative Director.
The Early Access build already includes a playable map with procedural layouts, randomised objectives, and adaptive monster behaviours that react to team size. Core systems such as stealth, progression, objectives, proximity chat, and online co-op are in place and actively refined.
Early Access features include:
- Explore volatile procedural SubRifts where environments and threats change every run.
- Squad up with up to four players, or brave the Rift alone in solo play.
- Loot, scavenge, and extract rare resources before the Rift collapses.
- Outsmart the Crawler, a relentless predator that adapts to your tactics.
- Brave dynamic weather and shifting monster behaviours that keep every encounter fresh.
- Progress through Rift campaigns by completing Banjo’s objectives.
- New locations, biomes, objectives, equipment, and monsters to be added throughout Early Access.
“We plan for Macabre to grow during Early Access. Development will be guided by player feedback and our creative goals. Areas we are looking to expand include:
