Cody Medellin: A new original IP is always welcome in a sea of sequels and remasters. The fact that Biomutant involves bunches of mutated animals with a postapocalyptic martial arts vibe sounds awesome and distinct. It also helps that the pedigree behind it, a studio comprised of people who worked on Mad Max and Just Cause, ensures that we'll get some solid gameplay for countless hours.
Michael Keener: Biomutant feels like a modern-day Jak and Daxter or Sly Cooper. There is actually little in common among those three titles other than a character being a small mammal, but I can't help but feel a strong IP platformer vibe. To me, it screams of the golden age of PlayStation titles, only with a gorgeous modern-day graphical skin. With some additional polish and assuming it can deliver a quality story, Biomutant looks like a game that could have a comfortable place in the gaming community.
Rainier Van Autrijve: Experiment 101 surprised most of the industry with Biomutant, a gorgeous-looking, open-world action/RPG with a whimsical protagonist reminiscent of titles such as Conker, Kung Fu Panda, and Ratchet and Clank. Publisher THQ Nordic is so confident in the former Just Cause developers (Avalanche Studios) that it has acquired the studio. Biomutant has almost realistic-looking environments, mixing melee with gun action, a karma system, cyborg reinforcements (jetpack!), a variety of combos, and mutation powers such as telekinesis, electricity, conjuring bugs, and more. What's not to like?
