Rhi "StormyDawn" Mitera: To say I'm excited for Avowed would be an understatement. Pillars of Eternity and its sequel Deadfire are two of my favorite games of all time, and I can't wait for the chance to dive back into the world of Eora. What I've seen so far is beautiful and fascinating, and the combat looks dynamic and fun. I look forward to spending way too many hours exploring the Living Lands.
Tony "OUberLord" Mitera: Obsidian Entertainment tends to have a pretty solid track record when it comes to "action role-playing games played in the first-person." They also developed an interesting world as explored in the Pillars of Eternity games, so Avowed just piles strengths onto strengths. The trailers make the game look pretty good, but I'm really curious to see how the final product handles combat and interacting with companions.
Andreas Salmen: Avowed is my most anticipated "maybe" of the year. While I trust Obsidian as an RPG studio, the last trailers and gameplay footage didn't quite excite me. In theory, Avowed ticks many boxes for me, but the slow and methodical combat felt more technical than immersive in the shown footage. I sincerely hope I'm wrong and that playing Avowed is the immersive RPG magic sim crossover I'm hoping for. I'm hopeful, just not entirely convinced just yet.
Rainier Van Autrijve: Few developers have as stellar of a reputation as Obsidian Entertainment, which sprouted from the legendary Black Isle Studios over 20 years ago. Obsidian is known for developing RPG gems like Dungeon Siege 3, Fallout: New Vegas, KOTOR II, The Outer Worlds, and Pillars of Eternity. RPGs are part of Obsidian's DNA, and all of that past experience culminates in Avowed. There's a big world to explore, lots of branching dialogue, choices that matter, a variety of biomes, plenty of NPCs to interact with, an array of enemies, and flexible combat that allows you to play according to your preferred style — dual-wielded guns, magic, ranged combat, or sword and shield!
