A Tale In The Desert diverts from the shallow, violent gameplay that is typical of the genre, focusing instead on non-violent conflict that encourages creative thinking and ingenuity. The game is available now as a free, downloadable demo featuring 24 hours of game-time, or 30 days of service, whichever comes first. Following the trial period, the game is $13.95 per month.

A Tale In The Desert also boasts a suite of features never seen before in a massively multiplayer online game. A robust, player-driven legal system allows citizens to change the rules of the game and a focus on intrigue, manipulation and strategy instead of combat. Players advance by completing a range of inventive and cooperative tasks including sculpture, gardening, beer and wine making, even fireworks contests.

eGenesis, creator of the massively multiplayer online RPG A Tale In The Desert, has signed MDO Games to publish and host a German version of the game. The German version entitled Kemet: A Tale In The Desert is slated for release in January of 2003.
