France based publisher/developer Monte Cristo, founded in 1995, has been shut down according to online reports. The writing was on the wall when earlier this year it decided to shut down the multiplayer portion of its latest city builder Cities XL due to not enough subscribers/sales. There were plans to transform the game into singleplayer only as Cities XL 2011, but the closure seems to indicate that may not happen, however the developers stated that an unnamed publisher has picked up Cities XL and will continue to be sold.

Last week Myriad Interactive announced it had formed the DJ Group which included Digital Jesters, Monte Cristo and Turtle Games. Today Monte Cristo has reacted strongly to the suggestion that it has become a label of the DJ Group and benefited from investment from Myriad Interactive.

Fire Department allows players the chance to experience what life is really like as a fire fighter. Strategy First and French developers, Monte Cristo, are delighted to announce that they have signed a multiple title co-publishing deal, in which Strategy First retains exclusive North American publishing rights for six of Monte Cristo’s most popular PC titles.

Monte Cristo has just signed with german studio Spellbound (Desperados) to develop the game :Airline Tycoon Evolution. The game takes all the parts of the original game released in September 2000 and adds two new elements of gameplay : Security and personal plane construction. The player will be able to create their own planes , use them in the game and even swap them over the internet. Expected : June 2002
