Thanks For The Adventure. Now Go Have One Of Your Own

by Rainier on Feb. 3, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Yesterday was a fun day. Nothing special happened, but I guess I was just glad that my little ailment wasn't serious. I don't get sick very often, and if it happens, it mainly occurs early in the year, so I guess we got that all taken care of for 2010.

A quiet evening. Like many other people, we were awaiting the first ep. of the new season of Lost, but it sure was different, with loads of head-scratching moments so far. To lighten up the mood a bit, we also watched the Axis of Evil Comedy Tour, and while it didn't bring us to tears, it was quite funny.

Oh yeah, and this weekend, we'll be rocking out at the Anvil concert. \m/

In A Job Like Yours, Even When It's Finished, There's Always One More Thing To Do

The good news is that I'm feeling much better. Whatever bug I caught was short-lived, so good riddance.

The bad news is that my 80GB iPod seems to have died somewhere down the line. I hadn't used it in a week or two, and when I wanted to plug it in, it was on low battery, so I charged it. When I tried to turn it back on shortly afterward, it kept trying to boot up only to shut down right away, and then it'd try to boot up again. After a few tries, it went to disk mode, and it's been sort of stuck there ever since. Oddly enough, when I load iTunes and the iPod is connected, it makes the program crash right away. Guess we're due for a trip to the Apple store ....

Go And Boil Your Bottoms, You Sons Of A Silly Person

by Rainier on Feb. 1, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Well, that was funny. We stayed inside for most of the weekend, having a ball and watching TV shows. We stepped out on Sunday to grab some groceries, and I picked up a bug somewhere. My head weighs a ton, yet it feels floaty, and I'm sweating like a pig. Luckily, I felt it coming, bundled up right away and my usual remedy is to nap and hopefully sweat it out. I know, it sounds pretty grody, but it works (and I feel a teeny bit better already).

Before I got hit by the bug, we watched House, Kitchen Nightmares, Psych and started watching Monsters vs. Aliens but then I dozed off as planned, so we'll pick it up again tomorrow.

If I Were You Boys, I Wouldn't Talk Or Even Think About Women. T'aint Good For Your Health

Well, that was no fun. Our Internet connection has been down for hours, and a few earlier attempts to reset the link were futile, as it died again mere seconds later.

No Internet meant we had no distractions so we caught up on our TV watching. We made a good dent in our weekly backlog, as we managed to see Bones, Castle, Chuck, Heroes, Human Target, NCIS and started on Supernatural, but the Force was too strong and we dozed off. Nap time!

Tomorrow, we have a few errands to run, and maybe check out the Australian Open finale, but then we can get right back to being couch potatoes and finishing off whatever's left on the DVR.

Hey, Move This Stuff Now! Clear The Map! I Can't Navigate On Bananas!

by Rainier on Jan. 30, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

As feared, the consumed alcohol made us groggy, so good intentions to get an early start on the site updates fell through, and so did we ... ZzzZZz

No big plans for the weekend, except to run some errands and watch movies/TV. Perfect!

We got our shady DVR replaced, so let's hope there are no more hiccups. We pretty much filled it up with shows from the past week, so we should be able to tell if it has issues. We might see a movie on Sunday, either When in Rome or The Book of Eli, but it all depends how lazy we get.

Either He's Alive Or He's Dead, Or The Cops Got Him ... Or They Don't

Hey look, I made it without getting drunk and falling asleep. This must be rehab!

Earlier this week, we went to a BioShock 2 event, and then THQ was in town to show off Metro 2033 and Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising, so we'll have some interviews and previews coming in the next few days. Keep an eye out.

Last night, we watched the latest episode of Burn Notice, and it was excellent, probably one of the best yet. Tonight we're meeting up with some friends for some drinks (you've been forewarned), but hopefully we'll be able to watch The Hurt Locker sometime this weekend, as we bought the DVD the other week, and I'm itching to see it again!

Unless You Came In Here To Wipe My Ass, I Believe We're Through

At some point last night, I was working on my message of the day, and while I thought about what to write, I fell asleep. That does sound weird on its own, and you're probably thinking, "Maybe you should get that checked out," but there's a very good reason for it.

You see, every Wednesday, we have homemade tacos for dinner, and we've done so for the past 10 years. It's not that we are creatures of habit, but they are so good that we made a regular thing out of it. We bragged about this to some of our friends, and they decided to join us in the festivities last night. Three bottles of wine later, we were all pretty saturated. The key to this story is that wine makes me sleepy, so the end result is that I dozed off in mid-thought.

I'll keep this short and sweet. We overslept and never heard the alarm clock, so now that we're running late, I'll get right to it ....

Can You Believe It? We're In The Middle Of A Drought, And The Water Commissioner Drowns

We watched a little bit of the Australian Open last night, but nobody we are really rooting for. Even Andy Roddick is gone from the tournament. Prior to that, we watched an episode of Leverage and Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, neither of which was really super amazing.

While we received our Mass Effect 2 console review copies a few days ago (look for the review later this week), I'm mostly a PC gamer, so I'll be snagging that off Steam. From what I've seen and played of it, the game is quite impressive, so I'm really looking forward to it.

We have several press events to attend this week, so stay tuned for some interesting coverage (previews, interviews and plenty of assets).

Sand Is Overrated. It's Just Tiny, Little Rocks

by Rainier on Jan. 25, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Today was another nice and relaxing Sunday, just the way we like it.

After we dropped off Ricky, El Site Guru, at the airport yesterday  morning, we ran our errands and then we dug in for the rest of the day. We watched Burn Notice, Heroes, Supernatural, Ghost Machine and Julie & Julia. The last movie may seem a little odd to most, but apart from video games and movies, we also love to cook and eat. While our cooking may not get any Michelin stars anytime soon, it can easily measure up to any household cooking. :)

Yesterday was a bit of a letdown. Our trip to the Chabot Space & Science Center was a little disappointing since it was mainly an outing for parents to take their kids and learn about space/evolution. The place was filled with screaming and running 8-year-olds, and while that in itself wouldn't have been any issue, the telescope was not operational due to overcast weather, so we did not get to see much apart from a 45-minute IMAX movie about dinosaurs. Yawn. The center itself is located on a hill, which gave us an amazing view of the area, so that kind of made up for it.

We did manage to get our DVR replaced, so hopefully the skipping and crashing will be a thing of the past. Too bad there were still a few shows on the old one that we hadn't watched yet.

Do I Laugh Now, Or Wait 'til It Gets Funny?

by Rainier on Jan. 23, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

This week sort of flew by. It must be due to all the Australian Open tennis we've been watching, but now that our favorite got booted out of the tournament by playing a stinker of a match, things should ease up again.

We've had a quiet evening in front of the TV. We watched Bones, Fringe and Castle, complemented with some Mass Effect 2, Gyromancer and Crimecraft. Later today, we might go to the Chabot Space & Science Center, but it will all depend on the weather. Can't exactly go star-gazing when it's cloudy and raining cats & dogs.

I'm The Guy Who Does His Job. You Must Be The Other Guy

Last night was a sad moment. We finally got rid of our Christmas tree! We didn't want to because it was still in fairly good condition, but Ricky is crashing at our place for a few days, and the damn nerd is allergic to it. Go figure ....

Not much time was spent in front of the TV tonight, apart from an episode of Chuck, some Australian Open tennis and a little bit of time with Gyromancer. We were big fans of PuzzleQuest when it came out, and while Galactrix was not nearly as good, Gyromancer has us totally hooked.

It's Beer O'Clock, And I'm Buying

by Rainier on Jan. 21, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

We got no watching done today whatsoever. It's an outrage. Tuesday night, we were up a bit late watching Australian Open tennis, and last night, we went into town to pig out with Ricky (our most esteemed systems guru). Twice a year, there's a "dine about town" thing happening where a slew of fancy restaurants try to draw in extra people with a fixed price menu. It's way below what they'd usually charge, so we take advantage of that to check out new places. We're stuffed! :)

There Are Few Things More Fundamentally Encouraging And Stimulating Than Seeing Someone Else Die

by Rainier on Jan. 20, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

It was raining all day, and I'm talking torrential, cats & dogs rain. Absolute buckets of the stuff. Some serious thunder made the house rumble, and there was even some hail on top of that. Haven't had such a heavy storm in a long time. Luckily, it seemed to have eased up by now, but they are predicting more of the same over the next few days. Joy!

Apart from the outdoor shenanigans, it was a quiet day on the home front. Watched some Fringe, the newest Leverage, and then some Australian Open. We had been meaning to check out the British Robin Hood series, and it's finally available on Netflix instant watch. So far, so good.

Some Places Are Like People: Some Shine And Some Don't

by Rainier on Jan. 19, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

As suspected, it was a quiet work day yesterday; most businesses were closed so there wasn't much to report on. Instead we slept, ate, cleaned up, and watched four hours of "24" (AKA the Jack Bauer Power Hour[s]) and Human Target, which is aptly described as "James Bond on adrenaline." Cool stuff.

Our DVR issues persisted today, and we finally got fed up enough to put in a customer service call. After making us jump through hoops, the first rep was totally oblivious to what the real issue was. We decided to put in another call, hoping to get a different rep, and lo and behold, we immediately got the address for the nearest service center to get the DVR replaced for free.

Naughty, Naughty, Naughty! You Filthy Old Soomka!

Today is a U.S. holiday known as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so things might be a bit slow later on.

Luckily, we have plenty of things to watch when that happens, as the new season of 24 started, as well as Human Target, which looks quite promising. With that being said, earlier we watched Public Enemies (John Dillinger story), A Perfect Getaway, The Ugly Truth (surprisingly entertaining), as well as some Australian Open tennis. Yup, we were busy couch potatoes!

We Ain't Outta Here In Ten Minutes, We Won't Need No Rocket To Fly Through Space

It looks like we may need to get our DVR fixed, or a replacement altogether. There have been a few TV shows we recorded that started skipping frames, and when you try to pause or fast-forward through the bad section, it gives all kinds of weird system errors. Hello Comcast, come and get your junk box, please!

We did not get as much watching done as we liked to, but we still managed to scratch Bones, Dollhouse and Heroes off our list, and we still have all day today to make a dent in our Netflix stash.

You Kids Are Gonna Grow All Kinds Of Plants! Vegetable Plants, Pizza Plants

by Rainier on Jan. 16, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

Hurray, another weekend! I've been looking forward to this all week.

Nothing too special planned for this weekend. We've got a lot of TV shows to catch up on, a few Netflix movies, and we also received The Hurt Locker, which came out on DVD this week. We saw it a few months ago when it was in theaters and totally loved it.

I'm also a man on a mission. I've been playing CrimeCraft's social game Kingpin (iPhone/Facebook) and got beaten up repeatedly by a high level guy, so now I'm power-leveling, getting rep and crew so I can get some payback. What can I say? I'm a nerd, and I hold grudges.

Because If A Machine Can Learn The Value Of Human Life, Maybe We Can Too

by Rainier on Jan. 15, 2010 @ 12:00 a.m. PST | Filed under MOTD

This evening, we had plans to meet up with a friend for food & drinks, which unexpectedly got called off, resulting in us having nothing to do and nothing planned for dinner. The problem was easily solved. We went to Round Table to get a extra large pizza (King Arthur Supreme, tasty!) and plopped ourselves on the couch to catch up, and we watched Chuck, House and NCIS.

We attended a few press events over the past week, so pending embargoes, we will have new coverage (assets, preview, interviews) on White Knight Chronicles and Bad Company 2. Keep an eye out for that if either one of those titles is your cup of tea.
