As suspected, it was a quiet work day yesterday; most businesses were closed so there wasn't much to report on. Instead we slept, ate, cleaned up, and watched four hours of "24" (AKA the Jack Bauer Power Hour[s]) and Human Target, which is aptly described as "James Bond on adrenaline." Cool stuff.
Our DVR issues persisted today, and we finally got fed up enough to put in a customer service call. After making us jump through hoops, the first rep was totally oblivious to what the real issue was. We decided to put in another call, hoping to get a different rep, and lo and behold, we immediately got the address for the nearest service center to get the DVR replaced for free.

Today is a U.S. holiday known as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, so things might be a bit slow later on.
Luckily, we have plenty of things to watch when that happens, as the new season of 24 started, as well as Human Target, which looks quite promising. With that being said, earlier we watched Public Enemies
(John Dillinger story), A Perfect Getaway
, The Ugly Truth
(surprisingly entertaining), as well as some Australian Open tennis. Yup, we were busy couch potatoes!

It looks like we may need to get our DVR fixed, or a replacement altogether. There have been a few TV shows we recorded that started skipping frames, and when you try to pause or fast-forward through the bad section, it gives all kinds of weird system errors. Hello Comcast, come and get your junk box, please!
We did not get as much watching done as we liked to, but we still managed to scratch Bones, Dollhouse and Heroes off our list, and we still have all day today to make a dent in our Netflix stash.

Hurray, another weekend! I've been looking forward to this all week.
Nothing too special planned for this weekend. We've got a lot of TV shows to catch up on, a few Netflix movies, and we also received The Hurt Locker
, which came out on DVD this week. We saw it a few months ago when it was in theaters and totally loved it.
I'm also a man on a mission. I've been playing CrimeCraft's social game Kingpin (iPhone/Facebook) and got beaten up repeatedly by a high level guy, so now I'm power-leveling, getting rep and crew so I can get some payback. What can I say? I'm a nerd, and I hold grudges.

This evening, we had plans to meet up with a friend for food & drinks, which unexpectedly got called off, resulting in us having nothing to do and nothing planned for dinner. The problem was easily solved. We went to Round Table to get a extra large pizza (King Arthur Supreme, tasty!) and plopped ourselves on the couch to catch up, and we watched Chuck, House and NCIS.
We attended a few press events over the past week, so pending embargoes, we will have new coverage (assets, preview, interviews) on White Knight Chronicles and Bad Company 2. Keep an eye out for that if either one of those titles is your cup of tea.

The forces are working against us! We had nothing planned for tonight, so we were going to watch some TV, but I started to not feel well this afternoon, so that plan got ruined! Hopefully tomorrow it will be a little bit quiet in the afternoon so I can squeeze in an episode of Fringe and NCIS: LA (which I stopped following, but I have a backlog of episodes).
CrimeCraft servers were down today, so I checked out Borderlands for a bit, and I'm quite loving it. I wish the inventory/backpack was bigger, though. With gazillion of guns in the game, it would be nice to hold on to more dropped items to sell them, but so far, that's my only gripe.

If you haven't entered our contest yet, we're giving away five Xbox 360 (NTSC) copies of Borderlands
! If, for some reason, you have not picked it up yet, roll the dice
Once again, our plan to watch some TV was foiled. Our neighbor came over to chitchat and left three hours later. We hadn't even had dinner at that point, so there no more time to be couch potatoes. Luckily, only NCIS and The Good Wife were on tonight, so we'll have to squeeze them in over the weekend. Cancel all plans!

The TV season is back from its holiday hiatus, so there are busy nights ahead, with lots of catching up to be done in the future. On some evenings, there are four to five programs to watch/record, just to give you an idea. We watched the two-hour premiere of Chuck while recording Fringe, House, Castle and Heroes.

Our lazy Sunday was lazier than we even anticipated. How's that for achievement?
We had planned on watching some movies and TV series on the DVR and ended up sleeping in late and lounging around. We did watch Heroes (in our defense, it was a two-hour ep.) and then another nap, and bam, it was time for dinner. I guess we succeeded in our plan to do nothing. :)
Our site guru Ricky has rolled out a few updates over the weekend, adding our contest feature back into the mix, so we'll be running some game giveaways that have been on hold for a few months. He made a few tweaks to the screenshot galleries and a few back-end modifications. Up next is a change to how our review scores are displayed, and then on to the comments/forum. Yay!

Today was a day filled with running errands and watching some TV, just the way we like it, and since we did all our chores today, we've got absolutely nothing planned for tomorrow. Lazy Day!
We watched The Taking of Pelham 123
with Denzel Washington
and John Travolta
(as the bad guy), as well as the latest episodes of The Good Wife and Dollhouse.

After two previously failed attempts because the movie was sold out hours in advance, we finally managed to see Avatar in 3D tonight, and wow, it was impressive. The last time I saw anything in 3D, we were still sporting the idiotic-looking blue and red paper glasses. Tonight, we were rocking it with some normal glasses that looked like they came straight from the Blues Brothers.
No big plans for the weekend. The usual errands, some Army of Two: 40th Day, catching up on some TV shows and a DVD or two, while nodding off on the couch. Always fun ....

The CES in full swing! I'll be checking out the new mobile phones — the Google phone in particular, since our current contract is about to expire and we're in the market for new cell phones.
We finished watching Up
, and if you haven't seen it yet, it's great. It's a bit of an emotional roller coaster but damn good. On the flip side, we also watched Echelon Conspiracy
, and for a movie with big names like Edward Burns
, Ving Rhames
and Jonathan Pryce
, it sure was majorly disappointing.
Tonight, we may try to see Avatar again. I hope the third time's the charm, as the shows were sold out hours in advance for our two previous attempts.

Tomorrow the CES kicks off, and while most of the exhibition is centered on technology/electronics and gadgets, there will probably be a few game announcements left and right, like Microsoft's new Game Room
In late 2008, we went to see Nine Inch Nails when they were in town for their Lights In The Sky
tour, which was without a doubt one of the best concerts we've ever seen. For a variety of reasons, NIN was unable to capture it professionally for a theatrical or commercial release, so instead they released raw HD footage from three different shows to the fans and see what they could come up with. For 12 months, a core team of dozens of fans
and a network of thousands spanning the entire globe pooled their efforts to create a professional-quality 1080p 5.1 concert film, and they have released it in every format, from Blu-ray and DVD to iPod and YouTube
Why do I mention this? 'Cause the end result is amazing, and it's free!

Back to the old routine, which is not always a bad thing. Slow news days are rather boring, so while the light news during the holidays was a welcome reprieve from the daily madness, I'm equally happy when things go back to normal.
Played a bit more Torchlight and, of course, CrimeCraft, and looking forward to check out Divinity II. Maybe I'll get an extra copy of Darksiders; been hearing good things about it.
We were debating between watching Up
or Echelon Conspiracy
, but eventually settled on the newest episode of NCIS. We're lazy!

Man, was I tired today. For some reason, this weekend drained me, and all systems shut down this afternoon. I had to take a quick power nap. Before passing out, I wanted to play some CrimeCraft, but since the server was down for maintenance, I booted up Torchlight again, and that game sucked me in for hours again. Think I'll have to spend more time with it so I can properly level up my character.
Met up with one of our friends who recently moved out of state, and we of course had to re-celebrate the New Year with copious amounts of alcohol. *cheers*

The holidays are official over, so it's back to work we go. I'm sure it will be somewhat quiet for the next few weeks until companies rev up again and reveal upcoming titles or launch new games that were delayed from the holiday run-up.
We did not do much on Sunday, since the missus was still having back issues, so we lounged around the house, play some more Rock Band 2 and CrimeCraft, and finished up Alfred Hitchcock's 1946 Notorious

Apologies for the late, late start today. Our little get-together lasted longer than expected, and with all the prep, we were totally bushed afterward so when everybody was sent on their merry way, we zonked out. Playing a few hours of Lips, Rock Band, Guitar Hero and The Beatles: Rock Band also wears you out.
Depending on how the missus is feeling when she wakes up — she was complaining that her back hurt — we might go over to Adam's place to see Armored (he downloaded it off PSN for free) in his condo's mini-theater.
But first, some coffee ....

It's our second day into the new year! Hope everybody had a safe transition from old to new. Here we are preparing for our annual belated New Year's Bash. A few friends are coming over for food & drinks, and discuss our good intentions for the coming year ... knowing that we'll most likely get none of them done.
Today we relaxed, did some shopping, prepping, and a feeble attempt at switching out a broken brake light, so a trip to the auto repair shop is on the schedule for later today.

The entire WorthPlaying team wishes everybody a Happy New Year! We hope everybody had a safe transition from old to new, and may 2010 be even better than last year. Finally after many years, we managed to launch our new site, which is only the beginning. Thank you for sticking around, spread the word, and let's make things even better!

Ahh it's good to be home again!
After a 10-hour trip, with a 2-hour pit stop at The Hitching Post for some fabulous BBQ/ribs/steak, we made it home in one piece, minus a popped brake light, it seems. All in all, it was a successful road trip.
Coverage will return to normal as we get ready for New Year's Eve shenanigans.
